Opis:: The article presents findings of Dutch and Belgian linguists concerning the rela-tions between the language of the Netherlands and its Flemish variety. First, the author provides characteristics of both ethnolects and of the social groups which use those. Subsequently, he analyses the existing lexical and pronunciation differences. In the final part, the author presents conclusions, different, as it turns out, for formal and colloquial language.

Opis:: The paper focuses on the Lithuanian language in the context of other Baltic languages. A brief history of Lithuanian in the Grand Dutchy of Lithuania is presented. It is done with reference to its oldest written records and the sociolinguistic underpinnings of the language. The national and linguistic revival of the Lituanians and the beginnings of scholarly interest in that language are briefly presented.

Opis:: Despite the numerous attempts made in the 21st century at gaining linguistic independence, the Silesian ethnolect still enjoys the official status of a dialect. Lack of success in the attempted emancipation should be attributed to the linguistic policy adopted by the Polish authorities and political elites. The attempts at emancipation of the language spoken in Silesia have been subjected to criticism on many levels of the social discourse including the academic level. However, a detailed analysis of the presented arguments is evidence that there are no objective, linguistic premises that questioning promotion of the Silesian ethnolect to the status of a regional language is unsubstantiated.
