Opis:
The major goal of this paper is characterising German education in Legnica in relation to the education of this minority after WWII. Before the second half of the 1950s, Lower Silesia was home to the biggest German diaspora in Poland while Legnica was a significant location on the map of German settlement. In addition, it hosted one of the largest schools with German language; along with a similar institution in Wrocław, it was one of two oldest institutions of this type in Poland. The first part of this paper analyses the social and political situation of the German population in Poland after WWII. The second part describes the characteristics of the diaspora’s education, and the third part discusses the education of the German population in post-war Legnica.

Opis:
Education in post-war Legnica (1945–1968) When the war activities came to a close, first Jews started to come into town, mainly the former prisoners from Gross-Rosen concentration camp, and then the displaced rescued in the territory of the Soviet Union. The newcomers soon opened their own educational facilities and in the school year 1946/1947 in Legnica there were: a kindergarten, a foster house, a heder, a primary school with Hebrew as the language of lecture, a kibbutz and a Hebrew primary school. The educational pluralism did not last long because from the school year 1950/1951 there remained just one state-controlled Jewish school (the other facilities had been closed). The kindergarten was the only exception and although it received the status of a public institution it preserved Jewish character until mid-50s. The subsequent years brought significant fluctuation of teachers and students as many of them left Poland in the first half of the 1950s, whereas from 1956 more newcomers arrived from the USSR. On September 1, 1959 a high-school class was launched in the local primary school. In the 1960s the emigration of Jews from Legnica increased significantly, which resulted in smaller number of students. A breakthrough year was 1968, when, because of too small number of children (38 in total), on August 31 the Jewish high-school and primary school ceased to exist

Educational and teacher training institutions for Jewish children and adolescents had a long and well-established tradition in Poland. Institutional forms of preschool education call for special attention, all the more so that the remaining national and ethnic minorities did not run their own kindergartens in Poland after WWII. In these circumstances, Jewish kindergartens were a striking exception. Ultimately, they suffered the same fate as the other educational and teacher training institutions managed by entities not welcomed by the Communist party and government in Poland, inspired by Marx’s and Lenin’s ideologies, whose guidelines from the communist headquarters in Moscow imposed a monopolistic vision of so-called socialist education and upbringing.

Opis:
This article explains how environmental awareness was raised among primary school pupils in the Second Polish Republic illustrated with an example of “Nasi Przyjaciele” magazine, published by the Society for Protection and Care of Animals in Krakow. The monthly was recommended by the Ministry of Religious Denominations and Public Enlightment for school use. In the specific sections of the magazine, environmental attitudes were promoted by means of articles, appeals to provide environmental education, environmental protection and, last but not least, children’s practical activities as part of the Young Friends of Animals Circle, contests for pupils of elementary schools and their creative co-participation in editing the magazine (stories and poems written by the children were published as the winning contest works). The editors regularly provided answers to children’s questions about care of animals and environmental protection.

Opis:
Tematem artykułu jest druga polska emigracja w Wielkiej Brytanii i wychowanie narodowe młodego pokolenia: zapoznanie z polskimi tradycjami, polską historią i ideą niepodległości. Celem emigrantów było zorganizowanie polskich szkół, w których dzieci uczyłyby się polskiej kultury, języka i literatury. Idea napotykała jednak wiele trudności, np. łączenie nauki w szkole polskiej i szkole angielskiej, złe warunki lokalowe, brak polskich podręczników, wpływ języka angielskiego, wstyd swojego języka, brak motywacji. Dydaktycy dyskutowali o czasie rozpoczęcia nauki języka polskiego, celach i metodach nauczania, programie, o roli rodziców, formie egzaminu z języka polskiego.
The subject of the article is the second Polish emigration in Great Britain and the national upbringing of the young generation: familiarization with Polish traditions, Polish history and the idea of independence. The purpose of the emigrants was to organize Polish schools in which children would learn Polish culture, language and literature. However, the idea faced many difficulties, such as combining education in Polish and English schools, poor housing conditions, the lack of Polish textbooks, the influence of English, the shame of their language and lack of motivation. Didactics discussed about the time to start learning Polish, goals and methods of teaching, the program and the role of parents. The main goal of emigration education was to teach children respect for the Polish language and Polish culture. Difficulties have been overcome, as evidenced by contemporary Polonia, who educates children in Polish Saturday schools and PUNO, and constantly maintains a lively contact with the homeland.

Opis:
The paper discusses the need for a renewal of literary historiography and presents different strategies for new historical readings that can generate interest in older literature. Students at the Danish universities and high schools are supposed to have a solid knowledge of literary classics and the methods of historical reading. In a Danish context the school's task to form and develop young people have been linked to the experience of reading literature and knowing literary history. But the older literature seems to have become a compulsory reading which students want over with as quickly as possible. It is a big problem since the European postnational societies require a historical understanding of cultural values and the sources of these values. Literature gives the readers the opportunity to see and interpret themselves in relation to their surroundings, to meet the strange and unknown and to empathize with other people's thoughts and ideas. Literature creates a special feeling of language and an understanding of how linguistic meaning is formed. The paper presents discussions of literary historiography and new approaches to literary history.
