Opis:
This article deals with the educator teacher and his work in the Salesian schools since the beginning of the school year to 1939. The daily pedagogical work of teachers was associated with in shaping the intellect, character and religiousness live of the students. Many examples taken from the history of the Salesian schools indicate that the Salesian activity brought good educational results during the Partitions, as well as during World War I or the inter-war period. The social context in which the Poles lived indicated the necessity of raising the culture of the Polish society. This activity was carried out by the Salesian priests and Salesian brothers. Co workers were also invited to cooperate. The necessity of education and training allowed for the openings of schools, but also other institutions, the dormitories, educational institutions, oratories or parishes. There were always children and young people as subjects of the work the Salesians. In education, teachers used the „Pedagogical triad”, based on reason, religion, and love-flowing from the preventive system left by St. John Bosco. It was precisely the „triad” that became the syncretism of the values and strategies proposed learners in the educative process.

Opis:
In the period of the Second Republic of Poland two attempts – unfortunately unsuccessful – were undertaken to organize the teaching of theology at university level in Poznań. Endeavors to create a Theological Faculty at Poznań University in the years 1919-1921 did not bring the expected effects. In 1937 Cardinal August Hlond addressed a plea to the Apostolic See to reinstate the Lubrański Academy in Poznań. The Primate’s vision included the construction of a modern building of the academy which he saw as his personal gift to the archdiocese and a “remembrance” of his primateship. The article takes up the above mentioned issue in the light of the Vatican’s archival materials. They allow us to grasp some essential historical facts and provide access to the drafts of the statutes of the intended reactivated Academy. Their publication herein seems to be an interesting contribution to the outlining of a complete history of the Faculty of Theology in Poznań.

Opis:
In 1919, in a Poland reborn after years of partitions, Poznań University was established and according to the intention of its founders one of the faculties was to be the Faculty of Theology, created by the University Senate and approved by the Apostolic See. However, this faculty was not launched. The author of the article, on the basis of Vatican archives shows the active role of Archbishop Dalbor, who in his abundant correspondence and personal conversations with Nuncio A. Ratti and Cardinal G. Bisleti tried to convince the Apostolic See to the project of the Poznań academic circles. Another important conclusion from the study of the archives is a positive assessment of the role of the Apostolic Nuncio in Warsaw. Finally, the author formulates the hypothesis that the main reason why the Faculty of Theology did not undertake its activity was the decision of the Congregation for Seminaries and Universities (later the Congregation for Catholic Education) which in the initial phase of the project precluded the possibility of seminarists taking up theological studies at the Faculty. It appears that the Apostolic See overlooked the historical moment which created an opportunity for the realization of the aspirations of the Poznań academic  milieu.

Opis:
The paper aims to depict State-Catholic Church relations within the framework of the discourse of the „Gość Niedzielny” weekly. Since the relations between the State and the Church are very complex the paper focuses on one, controversial topic, namely public education (religious education and sexual education in particular). Research findings suggest that the journalists of „Gość Niedzielny” expected the State to fulfill the demands proposed by them, as they represent the Catholic majority.

Opis:
Based on historical facts, published and unpublished archival materials, this work provides concise analysis of relations between the Church and the state in Croatia between 1945 and 1952, that is from the period when the Communist Party of Yugoslavia became the ruling party until the break-up of diplomatic relations with the Holy See. Since this was a quite dynamic period in terms of socio-political changes, as well as Church-state relations, the article emphasizes only those aspects that constitute the foundation of the conflict between the Catholic Church and the communist regime such as religious education in schools and catholic clergy’s class associations. Moreover, in the introductory part of the work ideological and political causes of the conflict are briefly explained, as well as relations of the Church and the state in the post-war period with a view to better understanding of the position of the Catholic Church and the overall context of the catholic religious life in time to come.

The article presents the life and educational activities of Blessed Marcelina Darowska, the co-founder of the Convent of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and her views on upbringing of young women. Mother Marcelina’s perception of education of girls in the 19th century seemed modern and beyond her time. In her opinion, there was a need of putting a stop to producing “parlour dolls” and provide young women with practical education. For the betterment of the country, she set up schools in Jazłowiec, Jarosław, Niżniów and Nowy Sącz. The girls attending the schools were brought up according to the system developed by Marcelina Darowska, based on religious and patriotic values. The Convent of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary continues the work commenced by its founder; over time Mother Marcelina’s message remains valid and serves the subsequent generations of young Polish girls.
