Popular media culture has been a vital resource through which youth generations have defined themselves, their desires, and their hopes and dreams. This continues to be reflected in the dynamic ways that the youth are using digital media to shape their everyday lives. As a result, young people are constantly creative; they acquire new skills and make up groups and communities in the media culture. The purpose of the reflections in the article is a look at the media practices of young people and an attempt to find an answer to the question how the young generation uses social media for communication and participation in culture and how social media change media culture.

Today's media have an important impact on young peoples’ social life - transforming many social and developmental aspects. Online activity of young adults not only increases the availability to positive and educational experiences, but also arises the exposure to online threats. The main scope of this article is exploring the role of appearance and social practices concerning its creation in the process of peer cyberbullying among Polish young adults (N=329). Online body autopresentation has been found an important factor moderating the process of online aggression. The dissemination of beliefs was also examined – assessment of own attractiveness, the apprehension of the appearance assessment by others and the scale of activities focused on editing and improving the appearance depicted in the pictures posted on social websites. The differences in these areas were examined between people with disabilities or those who have injuries or specific health conditions that affect their appearance and other young people. The results have revealed that particular research and intervention focus should be put on young people having a condition or injury affecting appearance and/or having a disability or serious health problems as this group has been found more prone to be victimized (regarding traditional bullying as well as cyberbullying).

Opis:
The present paper concerns studies on innovative communication and propaganda strategies of the main jihadist group called “the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” (ISIS). In fact, media and Internet agitations enabled to reinforce ideological and operational influences of that organization and they affected different militants in the world who joined the battlefield in Syria and Iraq or carried out terrorist attacks in the West. Analysis of propaganda techniques reflects the following topics: liturgical speeches, official media channels, social medias and encrypted communication. Besides, the research demonstrates different audiences of ISIS communication strategy, which aims at affecting emotions and at stimulating opinions and reactions. The indoctrination concerns traditional, liturgical speeches delivered in Arabic by ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who targets local populations in mosques. Moreover, it also reflects new technologies such as radio and TV stations, official websites or social medias that include sophisticated programs, high quality pictures, graphics and videos. However, the paper also deals with some advanced computer and Internet technologies, which enable to protect identities of jihadists who follow important conversations about ISIS objectives.

The process of political socialization takes place on many levels and depends on various factors, such as family, peer group or school. The basic catalog of them includes the media as well. The main ob[1]jective of the article is to diagnose their role in the process of social adjustment in the area of politics of high school youth from the region of Wielkopolska. The surveys conducted among high school students helped examine a number of factors: sources of knowledge about politics, media formats on the Internet as well as the most important actors playing the role of opinion leaders in the process of political socialization of young people. The study proved that young people display features of media use characteristic of “traditional” mass communication tools (such as television), but also a tendency to use new forms of media, characteristic of “generation Z”. At the same time, significant differences in this respect were observed on the grounds of gender and the declared approach to the religion by young people from Wielkopolska region.

This text is a report from research on selected aspects of the crisis of democracy in Poland. The problem of the analysis focuses on questions about the attitude of the participants in the political dispute towards opponents, the possibility (and method) of reaching an agreement and the assessment of the situation. I chose the area of analysis considering social media a transparent platform for political dispute (especially during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic). The essence of the research was to find respondents clearly involved in the political dispute. I choose Facebook, among the other things, because this platform creates a place of many actively operating thematic groups which gathers supporters of particular political options. This fact facilitate reaching respondents with the preferred characteristics. The survey was conducted in the period 13/12/2020 to 25/01/2021 on the basis of the author’s form consisting of 15 questions. The research sample consists of 220 respondents: 126 women and 94 men aged 14 to 72 years old. Appropriately for the nature of the variables and the sample size, the contingency coefficient and the Kruskal-Wallis test were calculated, together with the statistical significance of the obtained results. All analyzes were performed on the basis of SPSS software version 26 and Microsoft Excel.
Fakt ten ułatwia dotarcie do respondentów o preferowanych cechach. Badanie przeprowadzono w okresie od 13.12.2020 r. Do 25.01.2021 r. Wszystkie analizy wykonano w oparciu o oprogramowanie SPSS w wersji 26 i Microsoft Excel.

The article is devoted to the phenomenon of sharenting, meaning the sharing of content about their children by parents on the internet. Its emergence is associated with the development and popularization of social media, which have become an integral part of the modern world. A part of society, especially young people, can see sharenting as one of the dimensions of modern parenting. On the other hand, the phenomenon of parents publishing children’s images and other information about them online has many potential negative consequences. The article presents the essence and scale of sharenting as well as its causes and consequences. The author attempted to answer the question: should sharenting be viewed in terms of a threat to children’s privacy or as one of the sides of modern parenting? The article points out that sharenting is one of the significant problems of the current reality, in which considerable activity of parents is observed in social media. It also suggests some measures that could reduce the negative effects of this phenomenon.

There is no doubt that new technologies are the hallmark of modern times. For young people, the digital world is a natural environment for their functioning in everyday life. Smartphones and social media accompany them almost everywhere. Many of them, following their idols, not only like and comment on what others do, but also create their own image online. This often leads them to lose themselves in what they are doing, and when, for some reason, there is no access to a device or SNS, it results in their anxiety and stress. The ongoing pandemic has, in a way, “forced” many of us to have more contact with new technologies. Sitting in front of a computer/smartphone for hours, while studying/working remotely is not without its consequences on physical as well as mental health. There are two increasingly common fears, among the results of the excessive use of smartphones and e.g. social media (mainly used by young people), related to the use of new technologies: nomophobia and FoMO. The former is a kind of separation anxiety related to not having access to a mobile phone. The second one is characterised by people who use social media without restraint, when they cannot check what is happening on their favourite platforms. The aim of this article is to present the characteristics of both phenomena, the means of diagnosis and the results of national and international research showing their scale.

Communications made by marketing specialists during the COVID-19 pandemic differ greatly from the journalistic communications creating a climate of fear. Companies are trying to exert a positive influence on customer attitudes and draw their attention to the marketing offering by neutralising their sense of threat and informing them of protective measures taken and of the potential health benefits of purchasing the products offered or the service provided. The constant trends are to use allusive statements and tabooisation of the language sphere associated with the pandemic. One of the factors that can help attract a potential customer is humour, which creates a distance from the hazard. This article presents the various roles played by marketing specialists in a pandemic-triggered crisis situation (e.g. the role of the victim, the role of the saviour who provides safety, health and good mood). The study examines the posts published on Facebook pages by randomly selected companies between October and December 2020.

Social media is an area of social expression. Internet users like to publish their views online, often remaining anonymous. Virtual discussions often concern controversial topics, suicide included. The anonymity enables people to present their views bluntly. The aim of this study was to analyze Internet users’ comments on a teenager’s suicide. The content was examined in terms of categories of comments, ways of expression of Internet users and division into types of comments. The study was conducted using the content analysis method. The author analyzed 144 comments and 507 reactions following a post on one social network. The study helped identify two sections of comments. One included opinions on suicide (divided into categories: empathic, informative, condolence, interpretative, other). Users posting comments in this section expressed empathy and sympathy for the victim’s family. The other group of Internet users published negative and hurtful content in relation to this particular case and to suicides in general. The second section of comments concerned the responses of Internet users to one controversial entry that provoked a heated discussion. One user’s opinion indicated a negative attitude, lacking in empathy for the teenager’s suicide. The response focused on the dispute referring to the above attitude of the Internet user, ignoring the substance of the entry. The study justifies a conclusion that Internet users express their opinions on topics that are considered socially taboo. They are not afraid to air their feelings and take part in difficult conversations.

Intercultural research in the area of communication was initiated in the early 20th century. Over the last few decades, researchers have built a solid theoretical basis in this field. Nowadays, intercultural analyses include a rich collection of texts on cross-cultural differences, the specificity of the phenomenon in the area of verbal and non-verbal communication and also the role of the media. There is no doubt that in an era of dynamic transformations of media use by people all over the world, the sub-discipline of intercultural communication is facing another challenge – that of including social media and network communication processes into new empirical theories and research. The article answers the question of the status of communication research in the field of the intercultural contexts of the new media. Additionally, the directions of future development of these studies and conclusions are discussed.
