The article covers the theoretical aspects and importance of civic education in its broad sense nowadays and analyzes its role, tasks, the after-school programs, best experiences and practices of after-school education in the United States in the field of civic education and upbringing. In the article civic education in the framework of U.S. out-of-school time is substantiated as a systematic object in its substantive and procedural aspects, which aims to form national, universal human values, civic activity and competencies required in the XXI century. It has been established that civic education and upbringing has been integrated in the secondary school and out-of-school education curriculum and practice, is considered as a priority task for education at the present stage in the United States and is a perspective area for nonformal education in Ukraine and beyond.

The article presents the concept of empowerment in the context of early childhood education, mentioning its 5 dimensions, i.e. meaning, self-determination, competence, influence and security. Attempts to identify these dimensions are presented in the collected research material in the form of critical events from students’ pedagogical practices. In the light of the results obtained, early school education appears as an environment for blocking students’ empowerment in each of the highlighted aspects. The summary of the article identifies the possibilities of overcoming barriers in respecting the autonomy of a child at school.

The paper addresses the problems of education, including environmental and cultural education, of children and young people offered by agritourism farms. Professional employees in agritourism represent precious human capital for rural areas and guarantee high quality of services, e.g. educational services for tourists, including children and young people. The particular focus was on education in the field of ecology and rural cultural heritage. Institutions in one way or another involved in education in agritourism were also discussed. Every human needs the ability to solve problems. In early childhood education, the development of this skill can and should be implemented by solving text tasks. Meanwhile, according to a variety of analyses, a significant number of students are unable to solve these tasks. This is most likely the result of insufficient mathematical competencies of teachers in early school education and related teaching errors, mainly involving calculating exercises and solving tasks according to patterns. At the same time, students who are in fact unable to solve tasks but only limit themselves to the use of learned patterns, in non-standard task situations (not practiced at school) do quite well.

Opis:
“Children’s need for miracles” has been accentuated as elements appearing in the selected poems by Joanna Kulmowa, which allow the child to be amazed by the world; they are a predicator to the appearance of tutoring. The astonishment with the world, as a place full of lyricism, enables the consolidation of identity by the emergence of the child’s “I”. Not judging and classifying. Subjectivity is emphasized: the seriousness of the child’s world, understanding oneself, transforming the world, individuality, respect, acceptance, cooperation, responsibility, independence, sense of agency and dialogue. It was concluded that the main “miracle” is dialogue which: requires presence to be astonished by the world; raises the child’s responsibility for another person; cannot be deprived of love; manifests itself in the “question-cry “ for presence as a result of trust in the subject of the relationship. The objectives of the study were: to define dialogue as Bettelheim’s “miracle” in selected poems by J. Kulmowa; demonstrate that selected poems of J. Kulmowa are dialogical. The aim of the article was to: present the “miracles” in the child’s world in selected poems by Joanna Kulmowa. The method of hermeneutics was used based on the methodology of Wolfgang Klafka. It seems important that so far the selected poetry of J. Kulmowa has not been interpreted in relation to Bettelheim’s concept of “miracle” and its connection with the philosophy of dialogue, pedagogy and literary studies at the same time.

This article presents the issue of linguistic policy and the attitude of educational authorities towards dialects from the point of view of the multi-lingual and multiculture Italian society. Due to specific historical conditions the linguistic situation in Italy is characterized by a high degree of heterogeneity -numerous dialects exist alongside the national language. After the period of the political unity of Italy in 1861 the educational authorities have had to tackle two problems: the necessity of having to choose a linguistic norm and also mutual relations between the language and the dialects. Those issues were and still are highly controversial and are subject to heated polemics as the answer to the question of whether to accept dialects or eliminate them from school education has never been found.

The article attempts to present the specificity of radio music broadcasts as a form of didactic method used while teaching children about music. The Polish Radio music broadcasts created by Maria Wieman from 1946 to 1976 were used as a research material. The author shows the historical background in which educational radio programmes were made in Poland. The state of kindergarten education after the war and the methodology of music education is also adressed. The paper attempts to present the reconstruction of the formation of music broadcasts for children based on the literature dedicated to the subject, recordings of the broadcasts, and radio documents. The author also wanted to present the profile of Maria Wieman, the brodcast creator. Her methodological and didactic achievements played a key role in forming the modern way of thinking about music education in kindergarten.

The article discusses searching for solutions related to the university education of preschool and early school teachers in a time marked by intense and unpredictable changes. The fluid reality we live in poses an important challenge for those responsible for teacher training, requiring them to prepare teachers to deal with constant changes and remain open to what is yet to come. In a constantly changing reality, it is difficult to predict which competencies teachers will need in the next decades of the 21st century. It is certainly worth the effort to focus on fostering the passion and developing the personalities of future teachers working with children of preschool and early school age. The education process should also take into account the needs and expectations of the new generation of teachers, representing what the literature of the subject describes as “generation Z”. Apart from including theoretical considerations, the article is an attempt to showcase selected solutions developed at the Faculty of Educational Studies of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.

The article highlights the meaning of music activities in early childhood education. The conclusion is supported by personal experience andobservations from a Finnish primary school, which help to precisely describe music education in thisparticular system. One of the sources of a student’s self-esteem at a younger school age are social comparisons within their peer group. Articulation disorders may limit the effectiveness of communication and increase the likelihood of a sense of shame, stigmatisation, peer rejection or limitation of social contacts, which may lead to the formation of a negative self image and lower self-esteem. The research procedure was conducted in two groups of students in 10 primary schools in the Greater Poland region with the use of a reliable and valid research tool. The discussed research results constitute a part of a larger project concerning the significance of articulation disorders of the sigmatism type for interpersonal and intrapersonal attitudes and attitudes towards the world of students completing the stage of early education. In the present text, an analysis of the empirical material from the subscale: self-esteem is presented. The analysis did not reveal statistically significant differences. However, the fact that the level of self-esteem, regardless of the presence or absence of a speech impediment, in nearly 70% of all respondents remains at an average or low level is alarming.

The article presents an example of poststructuralist interpretation of biography episode written by students on the topic: “Becoming someone”. The poststructuralist analysis focuses on the perception of the subject-in-process, requires destabilization ofrational stable andunifiedconcepts.It aims at researching the functions and results of regularities of a process in case of author’s own research – the process of becoming a teacher in classes I-III. People engaged in CBW have a chance to understand their own situation by trying to answer the questions concerning what we really know about ourselves and the reality. The article discusses chosen theoretical assumptions and elements of the methodological procedure applied in the method of collective biography writing. The article is closed with remarks for the work with students which were verifiedin practice. This may help other researchers when they start working with this method.

The article presents the impact of emotions on teaching children foreign languages. To this end, the results of a research project carried out under the auspices of the Institute of German Philology at the University of Silesia in Katowice are discussed. The project consisted in providing language courses at three kindergartens and one primary school. During those courses, German was taught as a foreign language using the storytelling approach. The project results led to the conclusion that, unlike traditional teaching methods, which are based on very limited input and intensive imitation, the teaching method used creates much more favourable conditions for the activation of innate language acquiring processes and takes the level of the children’s cognitive development into account to a larger degree. The objectives of the evaluation were – among other things – to determine how the storytelling approach affects children’s attitudes to a foreign language, whether it arouses their internal motivation for acquiring a foreign language, whether it contributes to building their confidence, and whether it stimulates their imagination and creativity.

This paper considers teachers of ‘ethics’, which is a relatively new curriculum subject in school education in Poland. The paper focuses on the assessment of formal requirements for ethics teachers and on the evaluation of teacher education for teachers of ethics in Polish schools. The paper includes analysis of the perspectives of teachers of ethics concerning the future development of teacher education programs. The paper reports on a study of the place of ethics as a curriculum subject and on the practice of teaching ethics in schools in Poland.The study derives from a larger project completed between 2014-2016 and entitled ‘Ethics in the Systems of Education in Poland and Selected Western Countries (Germany, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, France, USA, Norway, Finland)’. The project was implemented under the National Program for the Development of Humanities of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The project was conceived as a contribution to educational research and knowledge on the teaching of ethics in the school system and to the building of ethics as a school subject in the Polish school system.

Despite a lot of scientific research and study, sexual education issues as an element of formal education are still considered to be a controversial subject. Those challenges, dilemmas, controversies or difficulties relate to many areas, connected both with form and organization of classes, teachers, and also (at more general level) with some ministerial indications or school management. All the above matters directly influence what sexual education classes look like and what the students’ experience is. It is disturbing that the sexual education subject at school was generally considered to be boring according to the respondents. Therefore, it has been decided to analyze why classes which are non-obligatory but important and wanted by students are considered boring and out of touch with life.
