    The paper deals with the way of constructing linguistic commentaries to the Middle Polish texts being published by Prof. Wojciech Ryszard Rzepka together with Wiesław Wydra, Maria Adamczyk or Alojzy Sajkowski. The observations carried out show that semantic explanations— being the main framework of linguistic commentaries made by Prof. Rzepka—become a specific excuse to show and describe grammatical forms, make a classification of language forms on the grounds of their regional, terminological and systemic affinity, highlight the form’s antiquity, and, consequently, to show the development of language throughout history. The use of linguistic terminology in the commentaries, on the one hand, and the citation of linguistic references in explanations which refer to specific issues, on the other hand, show confidence of Prof. Rzepka that the concerned recipients of edited texts have possessed the basic philological knowledge but also the desire and the need to expand it. Presenting the lexical background in a commentary, apart from highlighting the variation of language over time, allows one also to see how an editor works—reaching out to various sources in search of the best interpretative hypothesis, as well as vast knowledge acquired which the author of explanations willingly shares with readers. Accuracy and details of the performed reasoning do not undermine the use of modal denotations—maybe, supposedly, probably—in some explanations. Sharing doubts with recipients is rather an expression of Prof. Rzepka’s incredible modesty, who, himself being a paragon, also sets the bar very high for language historians in the field of scientific editorship who would like to follow in His footsteps.

    If one were to indicate some tendencies characteristic of the art of the 20th century, the pursuit of making artwork more spatial would certainly be one of them. This tendency manifests itself in the myriad of symptoms: an avant-garde redefinition of sculpture with its negative space; a proliferation of kinetic works enabling spectators to (re)shape artwork’s matter more actively; a dissemination of ephemeral forms, especially happening and performance; beginnings of installation art, to mention but a few. The present paper sets out to examine an artistic phenomenon  which is not as spectacular as the aforementioned examples, but it could be somehow placed at the intersection of them. One can consider the particular type of abstract painting, embedded in a pictorial plane and slightly opening for surrounding space, but simultaneously reconceptualising the relation between the imagined and the physically present. The first part of the article deals with methodology. As far as research is concerned, the author assumes moderate scientism as the methodological perspective. It is based on the belief that mathematical sciences throughout history have developed notions and analytical methods allowing the observable and communicable features of things, including artworks and artistic phenomena, to be explained in an effective way, i.e. more faithfully and usefully. Because of the fact that mathematical truths are not absolute, the methodological perspective is called ‘moderate’. Taking into account these assumptions, the second part of the article defines the analytical category of spatiality, which expresses painting’s ability to evoke variously conceptualised spaces. The three subsequent sections of the article are devoted to some paintings by three Polish artists active in the second half of the 20th century, i.e. Wojciech Fangor, Jerzy Grabowski, Ryszard Winiarski. Each of them combined two differently understood spatial orders in their works: physical (related to phenomenological and sensual experience) and conceptual (related to notions and theories proposed by exact sciences). Having analysed a number of paintings by Fangor, Grabowski and Winiarski, one can define notions of cosmogonic, transcendence and probabilistic space, respectively. In summary, the specificity of works analysed in the context of ideas drawn from exact sciences is examined.

    This paper analyses the causes of Ryszard Grobelny’s defeat in the elections for the office of President of Poznań. It attempts to answer several questions: 1. how did Jacek Jaśkowiak manage to generate such an enormous support over such a short time? 2. what errors did Ryszard Grobelny commit that, after sixteen years, Poznanians largely rejected their longstanding president?, and 3. can some moments of the campaign be considered decisive for its final outcome, and what were the main errors Ryszard Grobelny committed in this campaign? A significant part of the study is devoted to an analysis of the results of the exit poll conducted for WTK (Wielkopolska Cable TV).
    W artykule dokonano analizy przyczyn porażki Ryszarda Grobelnego w wyborach na stanowisko Prezydenta Poznania. Autor tekstu stara się odpowiedzieć na kilka pytań: w jaki sposób, w tak krótkim czasie Jackowi Jaśkowiakowi udało się zbudować tak wysokie poparcie, jakie błędy popełnił Ryszard Grobelny, że po 16 latach Poznaniacy gremialnie powiedzieli „nie” swojemu wieloletniemu prezydentowi oraz czy pewne momenty kampanii można uznać za przesądzające o jej ostatecznym wyniku i jakie główne błędy popełnił w jej trakcie Ryszard Grobelny. Ważną część pracy stanowi analiza wyników badań exit poll przeprowadzonych na zlecenie Wielkopolskiej Telewizji Kablowej.

    Artykuł dotyczy relacji międzytekstowych w utworze Ryszarda Schuberta Trenta tre, uznawanym za schyłkowe osiągnięcie polskiej literatury neoawangardowej. Autor pokazuje, w jaki sposób Schubert konstruuje odniesienia do literatury romantycznej oraz do modernistycznych tekstów dialogujących z romantyzmem. Identyfikuje potencjalne źródła cytatów i aluzji, a także zwraca uwagę na relację między utworem Schuberta a niedokończonym opowiadaniem Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego. Zasadniczym celem budowania połączeń międzytekstowych okazuje się problematyzacja kluczowych opozycji literatury nowoczesnej, a tym samym ilustracja schyłkowości samej formacji i spowolnienia dynamiki tych procesów, które decydowały o jej produktywności.
    An article presenting intertextual relations included in Trenta Tre written by Ryszard Schubert, which was recognised as a late achievement of Polish neo avant-garde literature. The author demonstrates how Schubert creates references to the romantic literature and to the modernist texts engaged in a dialog with romanticism. He identifies the potential sources for quotations and allusions, and also draws readers’ attention to the relationship between that work by Schubert and an unfinished story written by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński. The main purpose of creating the intertextual connections is to present the problem of key oppositions in modern literature, and thus to illustrate the decline of the very formation itself and the downturn in the dynamics of the processes that affected its productivity.

    The article is an attempt to establish the position of the scholarly achievements of Wojciech Ryszard Rzepka (almost exclusively in the field of the history of the Polish language) on the background of the scholarly activity of his predecessors. The author adopted the output of his teacher and scholarly master, Władysław Kuraszkiewicz, as the most important reference point. The author has examined more closely three currents in the research activity of Wojciech Rzepka: his lexical studies, his editorial and lexicographical output. Concluding the article, the author considered Rzepka most prominent historian of the Polish language in his generation – a researcher whose scholarly achievements are marked by originality and novelty as well as a harmonious combination of the dominating empiricism and understanding for the theory and methodology of historical linguistics.

    Artykuł omawia niektóre polskie przekłady tekstów lirycznych austriackiej poetki Friederike Mayröcker autorstwa Ryszarda Wojnakowskiego w perspektywy koncepcji performatywności, począwszy od J. L. Austina do poststrukturalistycznych rewizji. Zostaje tu ukazany performatywny charakter poezji Mayröcker, polegający na teatralizacji tekstów, dokonujących się w nich zrytualizowanych aktów mowy, które mają charakter auto-referencyjny i podkreślają zdarzeniowość wierszy, oraz na uwalnianiu mechanizmów iteracji. W świetle performatyki przekład jawi się jako performatywna re-inscenizacja i re-cytacja znaczeń zawartych w oryginale, oraz jako podejmowanie gry znaczeń, toczącej się w poezji Mayröcker. Przekład jest pojmowany jako twórcze działanie, które uwypukla rolę tłumacza. Performatywne spojrzenie na proces translacyjny przeciwdziała zatem ‘niewidzialności’ tłumacza (Venuti).
    The article discusses some Polish translations of the lyrical texts of the Austrian poetress Friederike Mayröcker by Ryszard Wojnakowski in the perspective of the theory of the performative – in its initial version by J. L. Austin and in its poststructuralist revisions. It depicts the performative nature of Mayröcker’s poetry which consists in the theatralization of texts, ritualized speech acts that have an auto-reference character and iteration mechanisms. Translation is seen as a re-staging and re-citation of the meanings of the original. Translation is understood as a creative activity that emphasizes the role of the translator, whereas the performative view counteracts the “invisibility” of the translator (Venuti).

    The subject of the article are the poetics of films made in the Lodz Film School in the first years of its existence. Analysis of selected films allows us to trace the metamorphoses of documentary forms which were sometimes parallel to changes being observed in mainstream documentaries, sometimes preceding them, sometimes imitating them. Documentary school films from this period illustrate one of the most important phenomena in the history of Polish documentary cinema: the transition from a persuasive document to an observation film whose poetics are the basis for defining the documentary in Poland.
