This article deals with the re-interpretation of Tadeusz Hołuj’s drama Puste pole (1963; The Empty Field) and its theatrical staging by Józef Szajna in 1965. Based on the drama I want to demonstrate how the artists – who were both survivors of the concentration camp in Auschwitz – managed re-presenting the Holocaust despite the political situation and the accompanying anti-Semitic government campaign in Poland in the 1960s. The reception of the drama of then and nowadays shows how that re-presentation was once interpreted due to the political circumstances, which made the issue of the Holocaust and the Jews bannend from public life, language, and memory. Finally I explore how Hołuj’s drama can be read today when we approach it via postcatastophic re-reading determined by after-knowledge, retrospection, and retroactivity.

From the 18th century on Arabian Nights  has been influencing European imaginary, especially culture and literature. It created European vision of the Orient as well. In the 20th century popular culture gave high recognisability to many elements of Arabian Nights (such as characters: Sindbad, Aladdin or magical artefacts: a flying carpet, magic lamp). Scheherazade as an allegory for narrative art became the most important figure for scholars studying the book. The paper shows how two contemporary book cycles make intertextual links to Arabian Nights . Orphan’s Tale  by Catherynne M. Valente, Harun and the Sea of stories  and Luka and the fire of Life by Salman Rushdie rewrite the elements of Arabian Nights , such as characters, artefacts and linguistic allusion to the Orient. However, the narration in the works by both writers is completely different: Valente recreated a sophisticated device of narration known from the book, whereas Rushdie gave his novels a simple, linear composition. Scheherazade’s gift to spin story out of a life is needed for different aims. For Rushdie telling fairy tales is useful in writing about life of literature itself, for Valente it is important for creating an alternative to the patriarchal vision of the world.

In the drama Close City, first published in 2005, Lithuanian playwright Marius Ivaškevičius focuses on the (im)possible connections between Malmö and Copenhagen. The initially realistic setting of a failing marriage in the spirit of August Strindberg and Ingmar Bergman evolves gradually into an absurd spectacle that explores spatial and intertextual interstices. This article investigates how the drama, as a scenic kaleidoscope, elaborates on the influence of imagined geographies in the Baltic Sea region, discusses (gendered) power relations, and questions Scandinavian exceptionalism.

This article focuses on Aquilino Coppini’s contrafacta of Monteverdi madrigals from the Fifth Book, Musica tolta da i Madrigali di Claudio Monteverde, e d’altri autori [...] e fatta spirituale, published in Milan in 1607. Coppini (d. 1629), a Milanese priest, professor of rhetoric at the University of Pavia and man of letters, was Monteverdi’s personal friend and admirer. He was associated with the circle of Cardinal Federico Borromeo (1564-1631), Archbishop of Milan and a great connoisseur of the arts, and his cousin, Cardinal Carlo [Charles] Borromeo (1538-1584), principally responsible for the Tridentine reform of church music, to whom Coppini dedicated the first of his three collections of contrafacta discussed here. Coppini’s efforts in re-texting Monteverdi’s compositions and transforming them into madrigali spirituali were very much welcomed by the mighty Borromeo family, as they allowed the newest stylistic achievements of the seconda prattica to be transferred to church music. Coppini’s contrafacta are of interest for their concentration on madrigals by Monteverdi, as Coppini chose to work on eleven madrigals from Monteverdi’s controversial Fifth Book. His treatment of the poetic text is quite elaborate. First, his Latin contrafacta are creative re-textings in which he reproduces the metric structure and the sound quality of Guarini’s original Italian texts through the careful placement of phonemes, vowels and consonants. Second, he transforms them into madrigali spirituali, always following their original affetti, creating strong associations and often profound intertextual relationships among the original and the new texts, in which he elevates the profane situations from Guarini’s texts to the spiritual level of the Gospel teachings. In this respect, Coppini’s work remains a fascinating contribution to the enduring discussion on the thin line between the sacred and the profane.

Adult second language (L2) learners have often been found to produce discourse that manifests limited and non-native-like use of multiword expressions. One explanation for this is that adult L2 learners are relatively unsuccessful (in the absence of pedagogic intervention) at transferring multiword expressions from input texts to their own output resources. The present article reports an exploratory study where ESL learners were asked to re-tell a short story which they had read and listened to twice. The learners’ re-tells were subsequently examined for the extent to which they recycled multiword expressions from the original story. To gauge the influence of the input text on these learners’ renderings of the story, a control group was asked to tell the story based exclusively on a series of pictures. The results of the experiment suggest that multiword expressions were recycled from the input text to some extent, but this stayed very marginal in real terms, especially in comparison with the recycling of single words. Moreover, when learners did borrow expressions from the input text, their reproductions were often non-target-like.

After over a dozen years of the illusory belief in the success of the „knowledge-based economy", mainly based on knowledge-intensive services (KIS), and the e-economy development model, EU policymakers noticed the error of de-industrialisation initiated in the late 1980s. Both at the level of member states and that of European institutions – under the banner of re-industrialisation – it was decided to return to the idea of developing a modern and competitive European industry. Deindustrialisation meant that European corporations transferred their labour-intensive production to the ‘largest factory of the world,’ namely China and other emerging markets of South and East Asia. This was associated with the loss of thousands of jobs in European industries, increasing unemployment and social discontent. In the paper, the author describes and evaluates the idea of the re-industrialisation of the European economy and discusses the most important initiatives necessary to implement the vision of a modern, innovative and industrial Europe.

The aim of this article is to outline school psychologist’s interventions, which might be useful while supporting a chronically, somatically ill child in their re-entry to school, aiming at broadening their peers’ knowledge about the chronic disease and positively changing their attitudes towards the ill child. In the first part, the importance of peer relationships in childhood and adolescence, the relation of their quality to school absences and the positive role of school attendance in the process of adapta-tion to illness and recovery, are presented. Then, the arguments for school psychologist to become an agent of child’s positive school re-entry are provided. A framework of tasks to be performed by psy-chologist in the school setting is outlined. The second part focuses on the interventions which might be useful to meet expectations the environment has towards school psychologist in case of an ill child’s return to school. Among them, negative messages’ delivery, educational workshops design and deli-very, promoting self-advocacy of the child, preventing violence and supporting child’s siblings have been chosen as important areas of actions related to the child’s peers. A selection of suggestions how to deal with these diverse fields of activity has been outlined, basing on re-entry models, as well as on useful directions and interventions to prevent bullying and support children in developing psychoso-cial competences, which are discussed in research reports, metaanalyses and professional literature.

The paper addresses B. Norman's humorous etymological Russian dictionary. By reanalyzing the morphological structure of Russian words, Norman provides them with knowingly false, amusing interpretations. The paper proposes to investigate the word-formation aspects of Norman’s re-analyzed lexis. It mostly represents an attempt to “build” the false etymological entities into the system of all existing word-formation techniques of the Russian language. Specific features of amusing para-etymology are also identified.

One of the things that most influencethe professional identity in teaching is the professional training that the student teacher chooses. The common denominator of socialization, social construction, and dialogue is the duality required from each one of the sides in these processes. The key to change is dialogic education. Dialogic pedagogy enables the participation in the construction of the educational reality in the 21st century.The article is composed of two parts. The firstpart presents a sociological infrastructure and asks the following questions: What is reality and how does the process of socialization and construction of a personal identity occur? The second part addresses the construction of the educational identity in the aspect of the educational ideology.

The article explores an expedition of Henry II, king of Germany, to the domain of Bolesław the Brave in 1005. While the issue has raised considerable interest in academic literature, the analyses have been carried out mainly in the context of major events i.e. the wars of 1002-1005, 1007-1013 and 1015-1018. In this work, an attempt has been made to narrow down the perspective to Henry II’s expedition of 1005 which reached as far as Poznań. To this end, I have analysed the written sources (specifically the records of Thietmar of Merseburg, a German chronicler) in an effort to indicate not only the expedition’s itinerary but also its rate and the state of preparation of the two major parties of the conflict, the German Reich and the Piast dominion. In addition, I have decided to make use of my experience of historical re-enactment in a pioneering way, in order to find out if the rate of the marching maintained by contemporary re-enactors of historical events provides a good comparison background for the rate of Henry II’s expedition of 1005. Next, archaeological sources provided some supplementary information on the conflict of 1005. In the light of all these data I have managed to adopt a different and unique approach to the analysed issue.

The growing importance of medicine as a science, but also as a certain ideology, caused the medical supervision of different spheres of human life, not just those related to human health and the organism. Using the authority of medicine and its representants, medical discourse (re)constructs the meaning of motherhood, uses its own conceptual categories to describe the experience of performing the role of the mother, imposes their own interpretations of processes and problems inherent in this experience. In relation to the concept of Peter Conrad, author presents the selected practices of medicalization of motherhood and their possible consequences. In addition, the mother is shown as a person who learns in the context of experienced medicalization practices.

The subject of this article is the fate of the Greek political refugees – specifically personsforcibly resettled in Poland and other countries of the Soviet Bloc, evacuated from territoriesengrossed in the Civil War of 1946-1949. After a long period in exile, some returned to theirhome country and began a new life, struggling with economic, familial, social, linguistic and cultural problems. The history of the Greek refugees and their re-immigration illustrates the irreversibility and irreparability of the social and psychological damage done by forcedmigration. Returns to the homeland did not reinstate balance, and did not ease the dilemmasinitiated by the first resettlement. History is stuck in the memories as well as the everyday lives of the return migrants and their social milieus; this creates divides, mutual strangeness, and social tensions. Compulsory movement of populations – leading to the severance of connections with one’s fatherland, hometown, mother tongue, and home culture – causes subsequent conflicts and identity problems which continue to haunt those who returned to their birthplace.

The Congregation of St. Joseph Sisters was founded at the end of century by Rev. Zygmunt Gorazdowski, today saint. This foundation took its place in Lwów. The central service of St. Joseph Sisters is propagation of the gospel of merciful love by the service to the poor, elder and lonely, as well as the care of the ill, children and young people. After the changes in Ukraine in the 1990's it is now possible for the sisters to come back to this country. Sisters from Poland try to come back to the society, where they started. In the Ukraine’s new reality, they are involved in the work of re-evangelization.

Wizja fenomenologiczna, która uznaje każdą jednostkę ludzką za zdolną do budowania i zmieniania własnej wizji świata, stanowi ramy teoretyczne całego artykułu. Zgodnie z tą wizją wychowawca w swoim działaniu wychodzi od obserwacji tego, co jest bezpośrednio dane, czyli zachowania ucznia, aby przy jego aktywnym udziale zaproponować mu zmiany na lepsze. Głównym autorem, do którego nawiązujemy w artykule, jest Piero Bertolini, znany uczony i praktyk reedukacji we Włoszech.
In this article we address the problem of social maladjustment and re-education of children and adolescents living in problematic educational situations or even critical developmental conditions, and their possibilities to change for the better. The theoretical framework of the whole article is the phenomenological vision, which recognises every human individual capable of building and changing his or her own vision of the world. According to this vision, the educator in his action starts from an observation of what is directly given, that is the pupil's behavior, in order to propose to him, with his active participation, changes for the better. The main author to whom we refer in this article will be Piero Bertolini, a well-known scholar and practitioner of re-education in the field of action in ltaly.

The recognition of animals as sentient beings in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) gave rise to expectations as to real concern and care for animal welfare and a balance of human-animal interests. However, both the EU-legislation and the Finnish animal protection legislation is based on an animal welfare paradigm, meaning that animals have a weak legal status compared to humans that makes it impossible to de facto balance human and animal needs and interests in an effective manner from an animal point of view. The weak legal status of animals in the hierarchy of norms in the Finnish legal system contributes to the continuation of the oppression and exploitation of animals. The Finnish Animal Rights Lawyers Society have therefore made a proposal to strengthen animals’ legal status by including animals in the Finnish Constitution (FC) by safeguarding animals’ certain fundamental rights, thereby providing tools for balancing of human-animals interests. This article focuses on the re-evaluation of animal protection from an animal and constitutional point of view.
