Opis:
Science popularization books, La Terre avant le déluge by Louis Figuier and L’Univers: les infiniment grands et les infiniment petits by Félix-Archimède Pouchet, represent the success of science popularization publishing of this period and the desire to spread naturalistic knowledge far and wide. With a spiritual approach to nature, they underline the important epistemological stakes of this period. The aim of this study is to question the literary, stylistic and formal strategies to assert or underline thoughts on nature in these books.

Opis:
Coins are not only a means of payment, but also a means of cultural communication. Both their obverses and reverses contain epigraphic and iconographic elements that together create an image. Among the iconographic elements, there are motifs understood as a repeating decorative element, but also as an expression of a certain type of idea. Archaeological motifs reflect their form of archaeological monuments or their elements, while their subject matter commemorates not only the monument itself, but also various related aspects researched by archaeologists. The aim of the considerations was to examine the numismatic form of commemorating archaeological heritage. The presented prehistoric and early medieval motifs appearing on European coins in the years 1992–2022 were first analyzed in terms of the form of their depiction on coins, then the archaeological themes with which these motifs are connectedwere taken into account, and on this basis axiological considerations were possible, aimed at answering the question – why a given motif was placed on the coin.

Opis:
The main problem presented in the article is archeoacoustics understood as a modern subdiscipline of archeology. The aim of the research was to outline the theoretical map of ideological references used by this young, still developing field. In order to understand the complex interdisciplinary nature of the archeoacoustic approach, ideological concepts were indicated and described, which, starting from various research assumptions, reflected on the role and methods of the impact of the sound in culture.

Opis:
The article discusses an issue of intertextuality of “pictures” in Palaeolithic art, and colour as its constituent. An important concept in these regards appeared to be that of an open and interdisciplinary approach towards an image, derived from the anthropology of images. In my opinion, essential is an “acting” of an image, based on so called “interimaginal relations”. It is legitimate when referring to prehistory, as numerous images reveal interpenetrating traces of other representations. Either consciously or unconsciously, some solutions had been used repeatedly, copying other representations, including selection of colours as a kind of stereotype deeply rooted in cultural memory. In cave “pictures” there were one or two main colours used, rarely three or even four. It has been acknowledged that the most important features of Palaeolithic “pictures” were movement, colour, especially expressed by a contrast of black and red or yellow, and also an illusion. They were also interrelated with a sound. The world of colours of contemporary people was a significant constituent of cultural meanings and of images “acting” in “mediatisation” of important existential contents between past and present.

Opis:
The paper focuses on the history of the Museum of Ecclesiastical Art at the Imperial Castle in Poznan. It functioned between 1923 and 1929, being a short episode but an important one in the history of the Archdiocesan Museum in Poznań. Formerly a Diocesan Museum, it was established in 1898 with an exquisite collection of sacred art assembled over the years. However, due to the lack of exhibition space the collection was only stored and not many people knew about   it.Shortly after Poland regained its independence, Poznan's elite wanted to partially convert the imperial castle (built by the Prussians for William II, German Emperor) into a museum of Polish art. The Government asked the Church to deposit their art collection and granted the city permission to open the Museum of Ecclesiastical Art at the Imperial Castle in Poznan. The proposition was accepted. The two people nominated to carry out this enterprise were: Rev. Edmund Majkowski, the museum's director, and Mr. Nikodem Pajzderski, art conservation official. With great effort they created a very interesting exhibition. Unfortunately, the Government did not show much interest in the newly opened museum and did not fulfill its promises. Investments were close to nothing and with time the whole project was abandoned and the collection removed from the  castle.

Opis:
An overview is presented of gemstones from eastern Kazakhstan in terms of their geographical distribution, geological provenance and genesis, gemmological characteristics, historical use and current applications. Locally occurring precious, semi-precious and decorative stones were extracted and traded along the northern part of the Silk Road that traversed the area in earlier historical times. Currently, non-metallic minerals, which largely originate from mafic igneous and metamorphic bodies of the Altay and Kalba Mountains of Kazakhstan, still are insufficiently known and exploited industrially only marginally. For the present study, selected depositories of coloured stones at the Mineralogy Museum of the East Kazakhstan State Technical University were used, supplemented by the newly collected material during personal fieldwork in the southern Altay between 2005 and 2015. Standard documentation of the gemstones selected is provided, alongside with their known occurrence sites and an evaluation of the perspective gemstone-bearing deposits with respect to regional morphostructural bedrock characteristics. The most precious gemstones include topaz, corundum (sapphire and ruby), beryl (emerald and aquamarine), coloured tourmalines, agates as well as diamonds. Despite the great variety, the majority of these traditionally most valued stones are currently commercially not viable, unlike high-quality decorative stones.
