The article analyzes the contents of the review „Misyjne Drogi”, published by the Polish MIssionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, with special focus on the theme of Oblate Brothers and their participation in missionary works of the Congregation. The changing image of the ministry of brothers is described according to three periods: 1983-1994, 1995-2011, 2012-2015. The articles published during the first period spoke mostly about brothers performing auxiliary tasks of farmer, construction worker, nurse etc. As the years passed, the authors have focused more on the direct participation of Oblate brothers in the ministry of evangelisation, on equal terms with Oblate priests.

Educational fundraising could pose significant challenges for Ukrainian universities in times of neoliberal ideology of contemporary educational reforms. The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the best fundraising practices in public US universities in order to implement them in the area of higher education in Ukraine. Examples and data published in a range of educational science journals as well as Ukrainian state laws are analyzed to highlight the purposes, features, and structure of university financial endowments. The article focuses on the “Triple Helix” model as one of the most effective schemes of university development. All things considered it can help Ukrainian universities carry on their social mission, funding various activities relating to education, research, and innovation.

Africa is currently undergoing rapid globalisation in many areas. This growth is particularly strong through mobile internet connectivity, which is having a considerable impact on economic growth. There were six African countries among the world’s top ten fastest growing economies between 2001 and 2010 – Angola, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Chad, Mozambique and Rwanda (Economist). This article examines the current concerns related to globalisation in Africa. It then moves on to identify specific areas and issues for mission and ministry linked to the phenomenon of globalisation in Africa and elsewhere. It proposes solutions for effective strategies for mission and ministry in this context.

This paper analyzes political activities of Count M. Tyszkiewicz. The author sets out from an overview of his descent, academic education, and family relationship. Particular attention is devoted to Tyszkiewicz’s involvement in political affairs, formation of his views, as well as social and political undertakings. Another element highlighted here is Tyszkiewicz’s activity as a patron, his contribution to the development of Ukrainian and Polish culture, and relations with Ukrainian politicians and writers at the turn of the 20th century. Furthermore, the author discusses his diplomatic achievement as a representative of Ukraine to the Holy See and the peace conference in Paris. Based on a study of correspondence between Tyszkiewicz and Ukrainian politicians, the author emphasizes his commitment to the Ukrainian cause on the international scene and efforts to seek recognition of the Ukrainian state.

Artykuł traktuje o manipulacji w mediach. Intencją autora było zbadanie czy katolickie portale internetowe manipulują prawdą w publikowanych artykułach. W tym celu przybliżono naukę Kościoła na temat mediów, przedstawiono sposoby i techniki manipulacji oraz skonfrontowano z tymi tezami sposób przekazu wiadomości w katolickich mediach. Z przeprowadzonych badań wyniknęło, że wspomniane portale jedynie starają się o atrakcyjność treści, pozostają jednak w zgodzie z nauczaniem Magisterium i prawdą przedstawianych wydarzeń.
The article deals with manipulation in the media. The author's intention was to investigate whether Catholic web portals manipulate truth in published articles. Thus the Church's teaching on the subject of the media was presented as well as methods and techniques of manipulation.  The manner of message transmission in the Catholic media was confronted with these theses. The research results show that these portals are only trying to make the content attractive, but they are in accordance with the teaching of the Magisterium and the truth of the presented events.

The turning point of Icelandic history was the reception of Christianity. After the discovery of the island, and then its settlement and the organization of an independent state, this was another step in the unification of the Icelandic nation. The circumstances of Iceland's acceptance of Christianity are peculiar in comparison with other countries in Europe at that time. While the decision to accept a new religion was usually made by the ruler, in Iceland the introduction of Christianity took place by the decision of the pagan parliament. Opposition to each other, the pagan and Christian factions, through reasonable negotiations, agreed in a bloodless manner on political agreement in this matter. The national assembly – Althingi – made a resolution in the summer of 1000 establishing a Christianity valid for the whole country religion. It is worth noting that pagan priest and clan leader Thorgeir Thorlaksson, played a crucial role here. Iceland was thus a country that was an exception to the European countries, which accepted a new faith through the conscious and voluntary decision of its inhabitants.

Mormons are particularly concerned about missionary work, putting much effort into converting non-Mormons into their faith. The proposed text attempts to focus on the goals of the missionary activity of this quasi-Christian new religious movement, to explain the processes by which the Mormons formed their view of conversion and how to achieve them in daily life during missionary work at the early stages of the history of the denomination. An analysis of the idea of mission in the teaching and practice of the Church of Joseph Smith allows us to gain an understanding of the general theological and anthropological principles of modern Mormonism.

The problem of unity within the Christian and interreligious rapprochement is in its essence complex and multifaceted. The attempt to look at this issue through the experience of the alienation complex wishes to cast some light on the factors that in principle exclude the possibility of reconciliation. The phenomenon of alienation in interdenominational relations is very often overlooked, and its consequences are hastily hushed up. However, a proper assessment of the situation of alienation in mutual relations between churches or religions should be a simple gesture of courage and willingness to make a change. Yet, this is not simple, all the more so when done at someone else’s request. It is still a long way to catharsis and a sense of fellowship with others, but this is what the Catholic Church and the entire Christianity needs. A genuine attitude of openness, ecumenical openness included, is what the Christian community is called to in order to perform its specific missions in the contemporary world.

Opis:
The Polish missionary media of social communication has been appearing since 1882. In the analyzed period, they performed their role very well in the period of the covid-19 pandemic. They quickly reacted to a crisis situation, informing about it fairly and widely, and in some titles it translated into inviting readers to spiritual and material commitment to specific needs. A special tool in this is the media communicating via the Internet, especially social media, which allow for immediate information and reactions to a short- or long-term crisis situation. The study shows that the publishing functions performed by this press include: informational and journalistic, promoting the mission and the missionary idea, catechetical and formation, new evangelization and evangelization, fundraising for the mission, awakening missionary vocations, organizing mission groups, opinion-forming and attitude-forming. It seems that in the main assumptions, the implementation of these functions at the level of ideas has not changed, and the differences result primarily from changes in the communication technique and the diversity of target groups. Before starting the research, the following hypotheses and research theses were formulated, which we then tried to verify (hypotheses) or confirm (theses) in the course of the research. Thesis 1: during the covid-19 pandemic, leading mission journals performed the press functions for which they were created – has been confirmed. Hypothesis 1: the press functions performed by the press media and the media communicating via the Internet differed – it was verified negatively. However, it is noticeable that individual media are used based on their technical capabilities (quick information and immediate help was possible through the media communicating via the Internet) and target groups (Internet users are younger and the content was usually prepared with them in mind). Hypothesis 2: the main functions performed were: information, organization and fundraising – in the field of assistance to the publisher’s legal entity – has been positively verified.

Looking at an interesting and very diverse scientific out-put of Michael Boym, Polish jesuit missionary in China, one can ask why so many of his works still remain unpublished. This text analyses some circumstances and conditions that impacted this situation for example relation between Boym and two other Jesuits – Martino Martini and Athanasius Kircher, complicated political situation of the Middle Kingdom in the second half of 17th century or some religious factors of the inner policy of the Society of Jesus. Lecture of the original authorial introductions to the published books of Michael Boym (i.e. Flora Sinensis  and Clavis medica ) suggests the author found inspiration for his work in Jesuit motto „Omnia ad maiorem Dei gloriam”. By setting both religious and scientific targets to his works Boym persuaded the order authorities that his books should have been published.

Much has been written about Matteo Ricci and others Western missionaries in China, and less attention has been given to Chinese Catholics. We present here the fascinating story of Fan Shouyi, a Chinese Catholic who came to Europe and decided to become a Jesuit. Returning to China, he played a role in the relations between pope Clement XI and the emperor Kangxi, a role not easy but quite constructive.
