    The text tackles the problem of the condition of university, in a world blindly believing that the only possible worth measure is economic in nature and, in the name of this belief, setting in motion a ruthless bureaucratic machinery that throttles all kinds of creativity and nips in the bud all nonstandard actions and creations. The world apparently is “out of joint”, and things are taking an unexpected turn. University is one of the victims, but also one of active accomplices of this despicable situation. How to speak about the university to those who are exclusively in business of calculating balance of profits and losses? How to speak about it after deconstruction, when all great ideas have been already repeatedly and manifoldly dismounted and discredited? How to speak about it, when the university’s men and women have discredited themselves repeatedly as well, oscillating between libido sciendi and libido dominandi? Trying to solve this puzzle, we are following in the footsteps of Derrida, who in his texts about university makes appeal to Kant, and inspired by his invention, we set in motion two opposite traditions, represented by Lyotard, Bourdieu, Bauman and Readings on the one hand, and by Humboldt, Schleiermacher and Jaspers on the other. With Derrida, we make noises about the return of the ideas of truth, of the light of reason, of the autonomy of university. It is, however, a return of the specters of the past, in alignment with Derrida’s hauntology. Humanists are people of academia who see these specters, but at the same time are already specters themselves – even if they still show up here and there, they are almost insignificant. They are onlyallowed to contemplate their negligibility and to confess their habitual helplessness. University always had to defend itself, and it does defend itself today.

    Tranströmer’s prose poem Blåsipporna ("The Liverleafs") is rather cryptic. By reading the text in the light of Kant’s theory of the sublime and by focusing on its mysterious and paradoxical aspects, this essay seeks to unveil the poem’s hidden eschatology. The poem’s transcendence is the result of the rhetorical and literary devices the poet is using to depict an ecstatic experience. Such an experience is beyond rationality, hence the wording’s irrationality. In addition, the poem addresses silence, as the experience of ecstasy can never be expressed by words. Thus, "Blåsipporna" is a piece of art and a sacred text at the same time.

    Opis:
    The author discusses I. Kant’s pedagogical views and beliefs related to moral education. In particular, the author attempts to prove the thesis that, for Kant, all education and proper upbringing was ultimately linked with moral education and that moral education, in turn, was just education to responsibility. After a presentation of the main assumptions of Immanuel Kant’s ethics, the author proceeds to discuss the status of pedagogy within its framework as a science that aims at educating people and forms attitudes that were understood to involve meeting of one’s obligations expressed in the formula of the categorical imperative, and precisely based on making one sensitive to the influence of a priori moral principles and on practicing skills of making everyday use of them in different life situations. The author characterizes notions that are related in Kant’s philosophy to the problems of prospective and positive moral responsibility, and discusses how this philosophy responds to the problem of feasibility and ways of developing a responsible attitude in man. Further on, the author discusses in detail Kant’s pedagogy, i.e. attempts to discover the connective concepts necessary to understand how Kant perceived the educational reality within the context of responsibility, attempts to answer what its goal and essence are and what measures are to be taken to successfully achieve the goal. The considerations on the notion of responsibility and pedagogy in Kant’s thought are summarized in a brief presentation of its essential significance for the pedagogy of morality.

    The analyses included in this article are meant to oppose two semantic dichotomies included in the title. Interests and values in the light of the article stay in a certain continuum and strict connection. Utility is axiological and instrumental structure of civilization but it develops owing to the capacity to live and realize values, especially absolute ones. They are included in the idea of human dignity and defined in religions. Public discourse as a language-game often deforms axiological intuitions of values and attempts to arrange and systematize them. Hypothetically it results from the mentioned dichotomy generating juxtaposition of the order of interests and utility with the order of values and dignity. The theory which overcomes this situation is needed.

    The desire to live a safe life is one of the most important human needs, while education is the basis of knowledge of the society as a whole. To ensure the safety of the individual and the security of the state, there is a need for stable cooperation between various security institutions. There are many safety education institutions that work for the needs of state security. These include the Education for Safety Bureau, the post of Education for Safety Inspector, the post of School Safety Coordinator, School Safety Clubs, etc. The aim of this paper is to describe the situation in education based on safety education teaching in the 21st century. Other objectives include indicating tasks and rational solutions in education on the basis of the principles introduced by scholars, such as J.A. Comenius, J. Locke, I. Kant, which remain valid to this day.

    Humanity has practised animal sacrifice for the greater part of its history, from the time of the Neolithic Revolution. The ritual forms have varied, depending on the culture. They have also been subject to change, in connection with the development of human understanding and knowledge of animals, which is reflected in the ontological, cultural and moral status assigned to animals in the human world. Sacrificing animals involved not only killing them in a particular way – their treatment was sometimes sophisticated or ‘ritualistic’; often it was simply cruel. Human attitudes towards non-human living beings have also evolved in the context of animal killing and sacrifice. The treatment of animals reveals a great deal about human beings – in terms of their culture, beliefs, and morals. The article outlines this issue in a historical manner, referring to the practices adopted in selected cultural circles (in the Mediterranean Basin): ancient Mesopotamia and Greece, as well as in Judaism and Islam. The key findings of researchers are presented, along with the evaluations of philosophers, ethicists and anthropologists.

    In this paper, I present Christine Korsgaard’s style of building a conception of animal rights protection based on a concept of Kantian provenance, namely “end in itself”. Considering that an end in itself in Immanuel Kant’s philosophy includes only human beings, the American philosopher needed to modify (extend) the meaning of the abovementioned concept. This study aims at showing this change of the meaning in categories derived from Fregean semantics (sense and reference). Moreover, I will attempt to prove that by broadening the extension of “end in itself” Korsgaard uses a strategy called ethical extensionism and situates the revised (naturalized) categorical imperative ipso facto within environmental ethics. I start with elucidating Korsgaard’s views on the meaning of “end in itself” before she took interest in animal rights (set out mainly in Kant’s Formula of Humanity and The Sources of Normativity) and then I synthetically describe her animal rights philosophy with a special regard to the category of “natural good”. The second part of the article explains the methodology used in the paper, while the last part is intended to be an interpretation of Korsgaard’s thought.

    The article analyses Olga Rosenkranzová’s book Lidská důstojnost – právně teoretická a filozofická perspektiva. Giovanni Pico della Mirandola a Immanuel Kant (Human dignity: legal-theoretical and philosophical perspective. Giovanni Pico della Mirandola and Immanuel Kant, Leges, Praha 2019). The author aptly shows how the concepts of the dignity of Giovanni Pico and Immanuel Kant were remodeled, deprived of their original context and perhaps made somewhat shallow when they found their way into jurisprudence.

    The paper discusses the letter exchange between Maria von Herbert and Immanuel Kant as an early example of fan mail. While the past research on Herbert described her as a sharp but underappreciated philosopher, in this paper she is treated primarily as a fangirl. The article discusses her correspondence with Kant (and Kant’s correspondence about her exchanged with others), her use of religious language as best means of conveying her fascination with an inaccessible celebrity, the parasocial interaction of these two, and the manner in which a hysterical discourse has been imposed on the young woman, not unlike the fate of contemporary fangirls.

    Poniższy tekst ma na celu prezentację wspólnej pracy Negriego i Hardta w szerszej perspektywie, jako próbę ustanowienia nowego modelu polityki, przekraczającego projekt nowoczesności, a jednocześnie zachowującego jego krytyczny potencjał. Hardt i Negri proponują ontologizację polityki jako alternatywę dla transcendentalnej struktury zapośredniczenia. Za sprawą tego gestu wprowadzają oni ponownie do politycznego dyskursu pojęcie komunizmu, rozumianego nie jako normatywnie ujmowane zadanie, lecz jako proces rozgrywający się w ramach materialnie ujmowanych stosunków społecznych.
    The following essay attempts to present Negri’s and Hardt’s work in broad historical perspective as an effort to establish new model of politics, which surpasses the project of modernity, maintaining at the same time its critical potential. Hardt and Negri propose the ontologization of politics as an alternative for transcendental structure of mediation. By this gesture they reintroduce to the political discourse the notion of communism understood not as a kind of normative task, but as a process taking place in materially comprehended social relations.

    Jesteśmy świadkami kryzysu w niemieckim Kościele. Rozważane są propozycje porzucenia tradycyjnej nauki Kościoła o ludzkiej seksualności i przyjęcia norm nawiązujących do modnych dziś na Zachodzie ideologii, takich jak gender i LGBT, oraz większej „wolności” seksualnej. Te nowe propozycje stanowią część tzw. drogi synodalnej. Powstają pytania o przyczyny kryzysu. Autor widzi wśród nich pominięcie zagadnienia cnoty w postępowaniu moralnym chrześcijanina oraz oparcie się na niewłaściwej (co widać zwłaszcza w przypadku roztropności) intelektualistycznej koncepcji cnoty odwołującej się do Immanuela Kanta. W koncepcji tej świadomość powinnego dobra moralnego wystarcza do jego realizacji. Koncepcja ta pomija znaczenie ludzkich pragnień i skłonności w działaniu moralnym i prowadzi do sytuacji, w której pomimo wiedzy człowiek nie jest w stanie zrealizować poznanego dobra. Wina za ten stan rzeczy jest przypisywana moralnym zobowiązaniom, które jako niedające się zrealizować należałoby porzucić. Autorem innego, realistycznego opisu cnoty jest św. Tomasz z Akwinu. Pomocą w rozwiązaniu współczesnych problemów moralnych jest ponowna refleksja nad realistyczną koncepcją cnoty i jej rolą nie tylko w wypełnianiu chrześcijańskiego powołania, ale także w chrześcijańskim wychowaniu.

    Opis:
    The article deals with 18th century Enlightenment and its clearly anti-Christian character. However, it is impossible to understand this period without showing it in the light of Christian enlightenment whose centre is Christ – the Light of the world. On the philosophical-theological plane the most profound synthesis of Christian faith and philosophical logos is to be found in the doctrine of St. Augustine along with its theory of illumination (illuminatio). According to John Paul II, the rejection of Christ in the period of Enlightenment resembles the history of St. Paul, who was rejected on the Athenian Aeropagus when he started speaking about the risen Christ. This rejection was accomplished for the sake of an independent human reason whose complete autonomy was demanded by Kant, whereas in the philosophy of Voltaire the Enlightenment fully showed its derisively-mocking anti-Christian countenance. According to Voltaire faith should be replaced byan enlightened reason and religion by philosophy. In consequence, deism with its idea of God as the Great Clockmaker was to supplant the Christian faith. As Joseph Ratzinger noted, since the Enlightenment we have paradoxically witnessed a deepening trend of irrationalism and scepticism in the Western culture. That is why already as Benedict XVI he postulates the construction of a new rationality, which means “broadening the horizons of rationality” whose ultimate foundation is Christ-the Logos.

    The article presents an attempt to outline, from a mainly typological and partly historical perspective, what the author considers the most important varieties of the relationship between philosophy and literature (which is, of course, understood here in a working and broad sense, as poesis). In the first of these varieties, for which the fundamental significance is Plato’s gesture of excluding poets from the state, the philosophical logos defines itself in opposition to literature, or mythos. In the second, which appears to predominate from Aristotle to the 18th century, the relationship between philosophy and literature takes on a more neutral character: the former provides the latter with motifs, themes, topics, mainly related to moral philosophy in the broadest sense, while the latter provides the former with discursive modes, such as genre. Modern aesthetics and the philosophy and theory of literature (fundamentally different from the tradition of the great poets and rhetoricians of the 16th and 17th centuries), which emerged together with transcendental philosophy and its reception in German Romanticism, contributed both to the increased interest among philosophers in literature and to a clear embedding, or even closing, of literature in philosophical notions, which originated mainly in the tradition of transcendentalism and dialectical thought. Finally, the beginning of the twentieth century is distinguished, in most of the major continental philosophical traditions, by a tendency to seek, or to find, in literature the most important partner of philosophical thinking, and sometimes even the identity of philosophy.
