Artists' Arcadia
Opis:: In 1858 J. I. Kraszewski accomplished a trip around Italy, a country defined by Goethe as the artists' Arcadia. His trip was described in his travel diary Kartki z podróży 1858-1864 (Travel pages 1858-1864). Kraszewski's aims as an artist and art critic were to deepen his theoretical knowledge, to see the Antique Rome, since he was fascinated by archeology and history, and visit Dante's city, because he had translated The Divine Comedy around 1864.

Opis:: The paper addresses the problem of mutual relation between form and function as exemplified by haiku. Focusing upon the structure of haiku conducive to epiphany, it discusses some general aspects, independent of the differences between Eastern and Western varieties of the form. The “literariness” of the genre is demonstrated with reference to dimensions of imagery (as defined in Langacker’s model of cognitive grammar), and to the strongly metonymic character of haiku. Finally, some shortcomings of “Polish haiku” are shown as a function of its culture-bound untranslatability.

Opis:: The presented article covers the subject of changes in the Japanese avant garde film through the cinematographic epochs. The aim of the paper is to introduce the reader to the methodology, definitions and the range of the research concerning Japanese avant-garde cinema. The author also presents the importance of the conducted research for the Polish film research. What is more, she tries to answer the question of how the avant-garde film should be perceived in the era of mass-media.
