    The article analyses Irena Krzywicka’s coverage of the so-called Gorgonowa case, in which a Yugoslavian citizen, Rita Gorgon, was accused of killing her teenage stepdaughter. The authors notice two seemingly dissonant practices in the analysed text: Krzywicka’s involvement in the fight for women’s rights is accompanied by taking away the accused’s voice. The feminist writer treats the case as a pretext for a critique of the bourgeoisie and its institutions, which she achieves by revealing and exaggerating the theatricality coupled with sadism present in the court proceedings. The strategy of exoticisation of Rita Gorgon, which affected her perception as a stranger, is also explored. In the emotionally charged description of the trial, there is surprisingly little space for the voice of the accused herself, who is not represented by Krzywicka, but merely presented. The pursuit of rehabilitation undertaken by Rita Gorgon’s daughter and granddaughter appears to be an attempt to symbolically return the voice to the accused and to recreate the “feminine continuum”.

    Artykuł podejmuje problematykę przedstawiania doświadczeń życia w totalitarnym bądź socjalistycznym państwie na podstawie powieści trzech autorek piszących w języku innym, niż rodzimy: pochodzącej ze Słowacji Ireny Brežnej i z Czech Libušy Moníkovej, których twórczość powstała po niemiecku, oraz mieszkającej w Kanadzie i piszącej po angielsku Ewy Stachniak. Analizie zostały poddane powieści: Verklachte Nacht Moníkovej, Die beste aller Welten, Roman Brežnej i Necessary Lies Stachniak. W swoich utworach autorki podejmują różne strategie przekazywania informacji o życiu za żelazną kurtyną: od stricte publicystycznej przez informacyjną, wplecioną w fabułę, po strumień świadomości, ukazujący, w jaki sposób propaganda kształtuje myślenie.
    The article deals with the problem of presenting the experience of living in a totalitarian or socialist state, based on the novels by three authors who write in a language other than the mother tongue: coming from Slovakia Irena Brežná and the Czech Republik Libuše Moníková whose work was written in German, and living in Canada and writing in English Eva Stachniak. The analysis was made by means of the novels Verklachte Nacht by Moníková, Die beste aller Welten, Roman by Brežná and Necessary Lies by Stachniak. In their works, the authors take a variety of stategies to provide information about life behind the iron curtain, from the purely journalistic information, information woven into the story, to the stream of consciousness, showing how propaganda shapes thinking.

W artykule jej postać ukazana została na tle przemian w postrzeganiu relacji polsko-żydowskich w Polsce.
    The article aims to analyze the transformation of the image of Irena Sendlerowa - Righteous Among the Nations, activist of the Council for Help Jews „Żegota”. Two faces of Sendler were highlighted in the work - motherly, such as those saved by her saved children, and heroic - created in public space after 2000. In the article her character was shown against the background of changes in the perception of Polish-Jewish relations in Poland.

    The book of essays Smrtni grijesi feminizma (The Deadly Sins of Feminism), written by Slavenka Drakulić, and Irena Vrkljan’s novel Svila, škare (The Silk, the Shears), both published in 1984, became the samples of feminist activism and the poetics of l’écriture féminine in Croatian literature. Considering their generic aspects and their narrative strategies focused on revealing the conflict between public/historical/political and personal/everyday/trivial, in our paper we will discuss Vrkljan’s novel as outstanding example of the emancipatory changes in the cultural field of the 1980’s. “Trivial as political” in Slavenka Drakulić’s writing, articulated through Irena Vrkljan’s autobiographical narrative, incites the emancipatory power of l’écriture féminine that simultaneously reflects the Other in itself, produces its own difference and writes without inscribing itself. This type of women’s writing, as previously defined by Hélène Cixous, is presented in Irena Vrkljan’s text as writing its own life that is “always in-between” and that undermines declared democratic values as much as the politics of literature, as understood by Jacques Rancière. Revealing discordances between poetic and social hierarchies, women’s writing makes changes in the partition of the visible and the sayable, in the intertwining of being and writing, body and words.

    Pierwsza część artykułu stanowi refleksję na temat stanu badań nad polsko-ukraińskim dialogiem kulturowym. Autor dowodzi, że asymetryczna natura dialogu zdeterminowała tematykę podejmowanych studiów, co z kolei zaowocowało marginalizacją pewnych obszarów badawczych (np. polskich obrazów w literaturze ukraińskiej). W dalszej części szczegółowo omówione zostały postaci polskich bohaterów pojawiających się w ukraińskiej literaturze epoki modernizmu (Mychajło Kociubynski, Wołodymyr Wynnyczenko) oraz postmodernizmu (Tania Malarczuk, Irena Karpa). Zestawienie pisarzy z dwóch odległych okresów literackich pozwoliło na ukazanie modyfikacji, którym poddane zostały obrazy Polaków w literaturze ukraińskiej w ciągu ostatnich stu lat, a także na udowodnienie, że współczesne kreacje polskich etnobrazów w dalszym ciągu opierają się na stereotypach ugruntowanych w wyobraźni zbiorowej.
    The first part of the article is a reflection on the state of research of the Polish-Ukrainian culturaldialogue. The author argues that the dialogue determined the asymmetrical nature of the subjectof this studies, which in turn resulted in the marginalization of certain areas of research (e.g.images of Poles in the Ukrainian literature). In the following part he discusses in detail the Polishcharacters appearing in Ukrainian literature of the period of modernism (Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky,Volodymyr Vynnychenko) and postmodernism (Tanya Malarchuk, Irena Karpa). The juxtapositionof writers from two distant periods allowed to show the modifications to which imagesof Poles in Ukrainian literature have been subjected in the past hundred years, and also to provethat contemporary creations of Polish etnoimages continue to rely on stereotypes grounded inthe collective imagination.

    The text refers to the films of black series of Polish document and arising at the same time (1956–1957) etudes of students of the Lodz Film School, dedicated to social issues. Analysis of individual works led to several observation. First, the etudes, like movies of black series, reflecting the social movement of 1956, but their subject matter turned out to be partly different. Appeared in them, for example, political threads. Secondly, the etudes showed many similarities to the professional implementation of the WFD, but only films of Hoffman and Skórzewski can pass as a source of inspiration for students. More frequently students ideas appeared in the improved form in the films of young professionals. Thirdly, the weaker school productions were bolder.

    The article analyses the particular interest that the documentary filmmakers of the late 1950s had in the architectural and urban issues. The reasons for this phenomenon are situated in several plans: they refer to the image of reconstruction from the war devastation and the reaction to its falsification in the period of socialist realism. They refer to the social interests of the filmmakers and to the strategy of metaphorising and allegorising the images of the city, which was handy in the times of censorship as it extended meanings and applied non-literality. The article analyses various film incarnations of this phenomenon.
