Opis:
In today’s Europe the secular state dominates. Disseminating the principles of the secular state in Europe promotes the diversity of religious and philosophical populations. The principle of the secular state no longer serves to reduce the social significance of religion or religious organizations. A way of expressing the principle of secularism in constitutional acts is diverse – it is often necessary for complex analysis of the content of the constitution. The principle of the secular state is expressed in the constitutions of approximately 14% of European countries. State Secularism is often equated with the principle of separation of church and state. In Europe, however, there are examples of countries that are exceptions to this rule. In total, the formal separation of church and state is expressed in approximately 25% of the constitutions of European countries. Often the principle of this separation in the Basic Law is expressed in a veiled manner. The most important feature of a secular state is considered to be the modern principle of neutrality. However, it is rarely explicitly expressed in the Basic Law in Europe. Its spread was mostly driven by the constitutional court decisions and statements of the doctrine of the law.

Opis:
The principle of cooperation between the state and religious associations gives a positive meaning to the relations of these entities. However, if it is improperly implemented, it risks giving the state a religious character, or the political instrumentalization of religious communities. The principle of cooperation “blurs” the separation of church and state. The cooperation between these entities should be optional, and its goals should be as precise as possible. The principle of cooperation, therefore, deserves relative, not indisputable acceptance. In Polish law, the principle of cooperation between the state and religious associations has both Catholic and secular roots. It became a constitutional and concordat requirement in the sphere of religious relations. At the same time, the Constitution of 1997 and the Concordat of 1993/1998 set out in very general terms the goals of obligatory cooperation between the state and religious associations (the Church). In ordinary legislation, the principle of cooperation between the state and religious associations is articulated primarily in the Act of May 17, 1989 on Guarantees of Freedom of Conscience and Religion, in Individual Religious Acts of 1989–1997, and in the legislation on social welfare and combating social pathologies (alcoholism). The statutory wording is often general and declarative. Detailed legal guarantees for the implementation of the title rule in the aforementioned acts are infrequent. Since 1990, the Church Fund has been such a financial and legal guarantee. All in all, its implementation depends to a large extent on the possibilities and will of the partners of the potential cooperation. The correct implementation of the principle of cooperation between the state and religious associations (the Church) is still a challenge in the sphere of religious relations in contemporary Poland.

Opis:
The late-medieval scene depicting the "Martyrdom of St. Apollonia" has been part of the col- lections of the Archdiocesan Museum in Poznań since 1998. Previously this work furnished the interior of the parish church in Głuchów near Kościan. Viewed against the backdrop of the pre- served monuments of art in Greater Poland, the scene remains a unique and puzzling work. The article presents the hitherto state of research of this object and refers to the fundamental theses of Brosig, Dettloff, Kamzowa and Białłowicz-Krygierowa pertaining to its iconography, composi- tion and possible prototypes. The theme of St. Apollonia's martyrdom is discussed as a common phenomenon in the art of the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century, though rarely encountered in the rendering represented by the Głuchów sculpture. The author provides a detailed description of the object and its analysis in terms of iconography, composition, naturalistic elements, narrativity of the rendering and the depth of bas-relief in which it was executed. A series of charac- teristics linking the monument from Głuchów with works originating from southern Germany are indicated, especially its undeniable affinity to a print by Diirer.
