Opis:
The article covers the issue of the initiative of organising care for small children at care homes in Krakow in the first half of the 19th century. Krakow’s civic-minded townspeople, referring to examples from all over Europe and facilities organised in Warsaw, implemented a project setting up a care shelter in Krakow. The analysis of archive material indicates that towards the end of the 1830s and the beginning of the 1840s, in Krakow, one could speak of the beginnings of a movement aimed at extending care over children of working families, including helping to feed them, morally educate them and provide for them with a basic education. Members of Krakow’s Charity Society actively participated in this work, recruiting people interested in creating care shelters, and drawing up projects for such institutions. In the end, care shelters were established and operated in the second half of the 19th century on the initiative of the private individuals who founded the Committee for Shelters for small children in Krakow. It must be noted that these included members of the Charity Society.

Opis:
Childhood and childhood are socio-cultural constructs whose form has changed in social history and in cultural-geographical space, conditioned by a number of different factors. The interdisciplinary discourse contains numerous proposals for systematizing these constructs based on various specification criteria. The article proposes a general systematization of these constructs in the perspective of their timeliness. The changing image of the child and childhood is of primary importance for the character of social and educational relations between children and adults. It has moreover caused a transformation of the image of research relations. Since the idea of children’s rights came into being, a new paradigm of research – childhood studies – has been developing, characterized by a specific ontological and epistemological dimension as well as its own approach to methodological solutions. These aspects are discussed and presented in the second part of the article.

Opis:
The article addresses the subject of social and cultural inequalities in relation to the situation of children in degraded spaces of selected courtyards in one of the smallest housing estates in Wrocław, Poland, Przedmieście Oławskie. The aim of the research was to diagnose and describe the specific situation of these children and to analyse it in the context of Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of reproducing cultural capital. The first part presents theoretical threads relevant for further interpretations and covers the concepts of marginalisation and reproduction of cultural capital as perceived in P. Bourdieu`s theories. The second part discusses the methodology of qualitative research, embedded in an interpretive paradigm and based on: ethnographicresearch strategy, the approach to research with children and the mosaic approach. The third part presents the results of research showing the specificity of the physical and socio-cultural environment of the studied courtyards. On the one hand, the dimensions of its marginalisation and the processes proving the reproduction of poor cultural capital were indicated; on the other hand, examples of artistic interventions in this type of marginalised environment were presented as exemplifications of breaking the mechanisms of cultural reproduction.

The subject of this paper as an analysis of the permissibility of using a picture of a small child and a publication of such a picture, which may only be allowed if the child welfare has been protected. An attempt is made to answer the question whether a consent granted by a representative of a state authority to publish a picture of a child, an infant, or a newborn baby in particular, may amount to an act contrary to child welfare. The deliberations of the paper include issues such as using a picture of a human being from foetal life, or parents placing a picture of their small child on a social network page.

Unfortunately, those activities did not generate the expected effects. The article recalls those unsuccessful attempts of establishing the first schools for deaf children

Studies into Children Development from 0 to 3 Years
Opis:
This paper is a review of Polish academic studies into the topic of early child education and care (up to three years of age), published over the course of the 20th Century to the present day, with the main focus on institutional daycare. The majority of academic papers on the subject of early childhood in the context of public institutional daycare were focused on nursing and development, while nursery schools as such were most frequently regarded solely as an alternative to being brought up in a family. The dominant notions in the relevant literature are those of care (including mainly nursing, nutrition and preventative care), development and education. Among the works published after 1945, the majority were nursing handbooks or elaborations on psychology. Certain components of basic early childhood ‘didactics’ can be identified in the papers by Halina Spionek and Hanna Trawińska, as well as in the journals from the 1960s through to the 1980s. The 1970s also saw a number of papers dedicated to the implementation of proper everyday practices into nursery schools and improving the quality of their services. Research on the social spaces of nursery schools was also undertaken in the late 1990s by a team of pedagogues in Łódź, while the economic and social conditions of nursery school operation was examined a group of scholars from the Białystok School of Economics. Currently, the topic of early education in the context of institutional daycare is being explored with growing interest, however, in the overall field of pedagogics it still remains under-researched.

Music therapy and choreotherapy are two extensive term. Therefore sound therapy and movement therapy is trans–disciplinary. It is unique thing like music and natural thing like movement. Basic kind of movement with music in therapy and rehabilitation: dance, recreation with music and movement, gymnastic with music and physical improvisation. The effectiveness of methods that use sound and movement in hearing and speech therapy is due to fact that: music and speech include rhythm, melody, tempo, volume, articulation, timbre, phrasing, accents etc.; speech development can coincide with motor development. The movement is main form child’s development. Disorders in the motor development of the child have a direct or indirect impact on the development of the child’s speech. When we teach our child motor development, also we support the development of speech, becouse the brain has one point that connect these two features. Music and movement activities with elements of music therapy, choreotherapy and rhythm therapy trains sense of rhythm, hearing and music memory and it is very important for harmonious and quiet growing up child’s – on a intellectual, physical, emotional and social plane, because of it all of processes that work in adult organism are improved. Main objective of the activities is develop different skills, attitudes and habits.

A consistent style in Dorota Kędzierzawska’s films has been clearly visible since her university works, which were influenced by cinematic Polish tendencies from the 1970s and 1980s. The director was interested in making deep insights into the child’s world and taking the perpective of her main characters. The spirit of the visual element does not minimalise the realism of the filmed world. What is more, the limited role of speaking allows cinematic techniques of expression to develop. Kędzierzawska has always been fascinated by young people and their problems and life experiences.

Opis:
The birth of a child is a major event in family life, which makes parents take on an important role in their lives, characterised by new tasks, chief among which are the care and upbringing of their offspring. Unfortunately, in many families, some factors emerge that may affect their functioning, disrupt the course of family life, and leave a permanent mark on the family’s history. Such a situation can be difficult for many –and many parents find the process of accepting a child with a disability (Down syndrome) and themselves as parents of a child with Down syndrome a long and arduous journey, since taking care of a child, upbringing and supporting their development is an issue in itself, but also a challenge for parents. In many cases, both the child and their parents need support in their daily life, ensuring their high quality of life. The objective of this study is to outline the functioning of families of children with Down syndrome. Due to the complex nature of the issue at hand, only selected aspects of the functioning of families were diagnosed, showcasing the changes in the family life and its functioning as a result of the birth of children with Down syndrome. The study was based on qualitative methodologies, by analysing individual cases using interview technique and interview dispositions. The research group comprised 10 families of children with intellectual disabilities, and the interviewed group was made up of 10 mothers and 3 fathers in Zielona Góra.
