Included in the research project are the result of the on site study with parents and children of the preschool and kindergarden age and also the teachers working with this target group. Results not only describe sexual presentation of the children but also the reactions of others to those presentations.

The aim of this articole is to discover traces of humanitas in late antique and mediaval literature. Starting from the classic meaning of this notion, the paper finds three meaningful episodes: the controversy between Ambrosius and Symmachus about the Altar of Victory, the Dialogue of a Philosopher with a Jew and a Christian by Peter Abelard and the spread of the Life of Balaam and Josaphat. Through these examples, the article builds a new idea of humanitas, free from historical restricion, a blend of literary passion, acceptance of diversity and multiculturalism.

Life satisfaction is a complex and highly subjective concept. Scholars studying this issue have made numerous attempts to define it. Whether we are happy, or have a sense of fulfilment, or we delight in the years we have lived through and in everyday life, it is all related to the aforementioned life satisfaction. The article deals with the subjective sense of life satisfaction among elderly people who are members of the Senior Club in a rural-urban district. The article is based on material obtained from in-depth interviewing. The research objective was to explore and obtain thorough knowledge of the sense of life satisfaction of elderly people. Particular attention is paid to selected factors that determined the perception of life satisfaction. On the basis of the participants’ opinions, certain groups of factors were selected that were more often indicated as key factors in the assessment of life satisfaction, i.e. health, housing situation, place of residence, family relations, neighbourly relations and a sense of social utility. The article presents the complexity of the problem and the need for an individual approach to the topic, due to the changing face of ageing and old age.

The phenomenon of functioning of fortified settlements of late Bronze Age and early Iron Age in northern Podlasie (North-Eastern Poland) is a relatively new research problem, on which the knowledge is a result of research conducted in the last several years. The aim of the paper is to present the preliminary results of the interdisciplinary research of the Jatwieź Duża site (district of Suchowola, Sokółka County, Podlaskie voivodeship). The research area is located in the Podlaskie voivodeship in the Brzozówka valley (left tributary of Biebrza River), in the Biebrza Basin. The described site is characterized by an oval form of anthropogenic origin, which indicates a permanent or temporary settlement in the prehistory. This object is one of many similar forms currently being discovered in Podlasie region.This form is build by two distinct trench rings separated by earth embankment and a central flat elevation with a diameter of about 60 m. A geophysical survey (geomagnetic and GPR) was carried out. They registered a series of anomalies, forming two rings which relate to the relief of the site. Archaeological excavation was made in the north-west direction. It was 25 m long and 2 m wide, crossing the embankment and both trenches.. In the course of archaeological excavations, ten objects were discovered with fragments of ceramics and a few flint tools. Preliminary results of archaeological research indicate that this structure was use by the communities of Urnfield culture in the Bronze Age.

The purpose of the article is to find the answer to the questions whether television commercials have an impact on creating the image of the elderly and what image of old age and lifestyle of the elderly is built on the basis of television ads. Studies have confirmed the hypothesis and have shown that the media through the content presented in TV commercials have a real impact on the shape of the image of the elderly population. The results allow the media to be seen as strong and efficient tools in the process of creating the image as such, also of other populations or individuals. The qualitative results have shown that the image of old age is seen mainly as positive and neutral, whereas their lifestyle is perceived as real, idealized and attractive.

This study focuses on the recent fall of many large scale department stores (Macy’s, J. C. Penney Company, Sear’s, Kmart) and other retail, pharmacy and grocery stores (Bebe, Whole Foods, CVS, Chico’s, Limited, Radio Shack, Game Stop) across the United States. The researchers set out to discover why stores that have existed for years suddenly had to shut down physical locations. The researchers hypothesized that these retail outlets have failed to properly attract millennial consumers. Marketers are endlessly attempting to find solutions on how to best attract millennials in this digital age. What appears to be evident, though, is that the habits of this demographic prefer the ease provided by online shopping. Secondary sources were reviewed to determine exactly why the stores have fallen. The millennial culture was a key component of the study. The results suggest that the stores failed due to improper targeting and in-store attraction.

In the text, an attempt was made to analyse selected issues related to gerontology in the relationship to people with disabilities. The context of analyses is the tendency of social ageing tendencies, observed in Poland and in the world, especially in European countries. Selected areas of reflection are combined with the conviction that there is a need for research which would fill in the gap in the field of research carried out so far, focused on the issue of the broadly defined life situation of the people with disabilities in the senior years, which is in the scientific merit of Polish special needs education (pedagogics). There is a justified fear that these individuals are more likely to experience marginalisation and exclusion in many areas of life than people of similar age in the general population.

An increased interest in gerontological (old age) education has been recently observed in Poland. It is moreover claimed that this discipline has undergone a rapid development. This observation is particularly true in the context of the Universities of Third Age (U3A) movement. In this paper, we would like to revise current concepts, developed for the purpose of gerontological education, and then contribute to the overall discussion to stress that there is a need to include all education-oriented activities related to old age and ageing in various aspects as one integrated theoretical concept. We would like to address this topic in a holistic manner. However, we aim to connect the aspect of the recent development of old age-focused educational activities carried out in Poland with some data that has not been published before. This will provide an option to understand the development of education of these concepts in Poland as well as help to identify the drawbacks of this process. We will contribute an in-depth evaluation of this process in Poland and outline future needs which have to be met to use all opportunities to prepare both the present and future society for the rapid ageing of Poland’s population.

DOI 10.14746/kse.2018.14.15.At the foundation of this research lies the belief that theage can directly differentiate the perception of counterproductivework behaviors. The aim of the article is toidentify and present the relationship between age andthe perception of counterproductive work behaviors. Thesurvey research was carried out in June 2017, with theuse of Internet-based survey questionnaire (CAWI). Therewere altogether 198 officers examined. The results confirmthe existence of variety counterproductive behaviors accordingto the classification proposed by P.E. Spector. Theanalysis results confirm the appearance of dependence betweenthe age of officers and their perception of counterproductivebehaviors. The conclusions which come fromthe research can have significant implications to superiorsin the scope of prophylactic actions aimed against counterproductivebehaviors.

In this paper, we discuss the problem of articulation between levels in the educational system, as the transition from a rather more communicative, contentbased and holistic approach to English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching at primary level to more formal and explicit ways of foreign language (FL) teaching at secondary is often experienced as problematic by students and teachers alike (see, e.g., Muñoz, Tragant, & Camuñas, 2015). The results of a mixed methods analysis are presented, in which we analyzed, through a questionnaire and language experience essays, perceived continuity between input received in primary school and secondary school, as well as learners’ beliefs, attitudes and self-efficacy before and after they transitioned to secondary school. Twelve primary schools and six secondary schools in Switzerland participated in the study, with a total of 280 early learners of EFL (biological age 12-13 years, age of onset 8 years). We will argue that one of the main reasons why early FL instruction seems not to bear fruit later in secondary school is that, on the one hand, coherence in curriculum design and practice vary in a few-but crucial-aspects within and between primary schools. On the other hand, the fact that secondary education becomes a meeting point for mixed ability classes also seems to mitigate the potential advantages of an earlier start.

The author presents contemporary connotations of the notion of old-age in the context of previous historical and cultural research in that area. Current data obtained from studies of interpersonal relationships is compared with the image of old age created in cultural texts and historical documents. The paper presents a hoard of bronze objects from Bolesławiec, Wieruszów District, deposited within the Upper Silesian-Małopolska zone of the Lusatian urnfields. The hoard comprises ornaments and devices used to fasten clothing that are indicative of both an interregional context and local production centres. The hoard dates to Phase IV/Phase V of the Bronze Age, or perhaps a somewhat later period, and fits with the picture of complex and intense cultural processes taking place in the Upper Silesian-Małopolska zone at the time.

Ethnolinguistic approach allows to track cultural information included in language, especially lexical and phraseological units. From this perspective, the language tells us about the particular way a linguistic-cultural community perceives reality. Society attributes to women a number of features, qualities, defects and social functions. These traits shape a cultural image of women, and this biased picture is functional in social relationships and it is reflected on the terms a language uses to refer to women. The purpose of this paper is to describe the perception of old women in Roman society by means of the associations and connotations carried by Latin terms anus, anicula and vetula.
