    West German literature during the 1980s
    Opis:
    West German literature has turned its back to the existence of the second German state until the 1980s. Only a few years before the fall of the Berlin wall, three writers started to make the GDR a subject of narration or poetry: Botho Strauß, Peter Schneider and Martin Walser. In different ways, yet unanimously, they complain about the division of Germany dealing with its impact on everyday life and private feelings.

    Opis:
    The article describes the history of the Polish underground press (referred to as second circulation) before 1989. It offers an analysis of the conditions in which the magazines appeared including conspiracy, irregular printing and instability of the editorship. The author emphasises that the Polish writers aimed at going international. They observed the changes that took place in all the countries of the communist bloc. They also wanted to modernise the society by means of introducing texts by Western authors: philosophers, politologists, historians, especially those who dealt with the phenomenon of communism.
    Artykuł opisuje historię drugoobiegowych polskich czasopism sprzed 1989 roku. Analizuje warunki, w których te czasopisma musiały funkcjonować: funkcjonowanie w konspiracji, nieregularnie ukazujące się numery, niestabilność redakcji. Wśród głównych tematów autor podkreśla międzynarodowe ambicje polskich autorów. Mieli oni ambicje śledzenia przemian, zachodzących we wszystkich państwach komunistycznego obozu. Pragnęli także modernizować społeczeństwo, dzięki szerokiemu otwarciu łamów na teksty autorów zachodnich: filozofów, politologów, historyków, zwłaszcza tych, którzy zajmowali się fenomenem komunizmu.

    The twelve-year collaborative practice of Marina Abramović and Ulay (Franck Uwe Laysiepen), started with extreme, rapturous and unflinching explorations of capacities of the body in their early performances (a phase they called The Warriors), that corresponded to the fury of the 1970s. In an environment hostile to the living, phenomenological body (in arts, in theoretical discourse) of the 1980s, the two artists recalibrated their living and artistic strategy. During their extensive journeys into distant lands (deserts of Asia, Africa, Australia), they were introduced to and embraced the practices of Eastern meditation techniques, which secured and procured their escape from the limitations of their own culture and their relationship. They also significantly influenced and modified forms and functions of their joint performances. The refined simplicity and stillness of the form of their many-times (re)enacted performance Nightsea Crossing focussed and spurred their inner forces towards self-perfection and the unfolding of more sophisticated lines of connection with the outside, with otherness. The legacy of this performance has affected the direction and function of their later, individual careers.
