    In Europe, the population of people over 60 years old has increased dramatically in the last few decades. Due to the demographic changes, in Poland, the world of marketing seems to discover the purchasing power of the elderly. Seniors become not only the receivers but also the senders of advertising messages. In order to sell a product, ad makers present people who are supposed to be liked, trusted, identified with and finally followed. In a press advertisement, to which an average consumer devotes 1.5 seconds, the picture is of top priority. The present research aims at analyzing the image of elderly women in press advertisements on the basis of their physical appearance, the context of the depicted situation, their clothes, facial expressions, eye-contact, and other visible traits. The survey study was conducted among young people to see the difference in their perception of elderly women in the pictures illustrating press advertisements for different products. The research results show how the positive image of the elderly in advertising can be created.

    This article presents examples of alternative forms of support for the elderly. The first part presents the concept and use of telecare - the information and communication system, which monitors the situation of senior and alerts in case of danger. The second part contain the advantages and disadvantages of senior cohousing. The third part is about popular in Spain and France the idea of intergenerational (senior and student) home-sharing and analysis capabilities to popularize this solution in Poland.

    The purpose of the article is to find the answer to the questions whether television commercials have an impact on creating the image of the elderly and what image of old age and lifestyle of the elderly is built on the basis of television ads. Studies have confirmed the hypothesis and have shown that the media through the content presented in TV commercials have a real impact on the shape of the image of the elderly population. The results allow the media to be seen as strong and efficient tools in the process of creating the image as such, also of other populations or individuals. The qualitative results have shown that the image of old age is seen mainly as positive and neutral, whereas their lifestyle is perceived as real, idealized and attractive.

    The need to enliven the catechesis of the elderly and to take advantage of the richness and experience of this social group resounds significantly in contemporary catechetical reflection. This is mainly due to the fact that society, and thus the community of the Church, is affected by the problem of the progressive aging of its members. In the catechetical dimension, it becomes important, among other things, to take appropriate steps to adapt the catechesis of the elderly in terms of appropriate content, tools and structure. The suggested specific educational offer should stimulate and encourage to verify and deepen one’s own religious knowledge, help answer nagging questions, especially existential ones in an eschatological perspective, and find a place and role of the elderly in the community of believers. In this study, the notion of old age and aging in the social and theological aspect was first analyzed, then the basic assumptions of neuroandragogy and the most important aspects of catechesis of the elderly were presented. The next part featured practical implications for the use of selected elements of andragogy and neuroandragogy in catechesis and the broadly understood activity and religious education of the elderly.
    We współczesnej refleksji katechetycznej w sposób znaczący wybrzmiewa potrzeba ożywienia katechezy osób starszych, jak i skorzystania z bogactwa i doświadczenia tejże grupy społecznej. Wynika to przede wszystkim z faktu, iż społeczeństwo, a tym samym wspólnotę Kościoła dotyka problem postępującego starzenia się jej członków. W wymiarze katechetycznym istotnym staje się między innymi podjęcie odpowiednich kroków w celu dostosowania katechezy osób starszych pod względem odpowiednich treści, narzędzi oraz struktury. Proponowana swoista oferta edukacyjna powinna pobudzić oraz zachęcić do weryfikacji i pogłębienia własnej wiedzy religijnej, pomóc odpowiedzieć na nurtujące pytania, zwłaszcza natury egzystencjalnej w perspektywie eschatologicznej, a także odnaleźć miejsce i rolę osób starszych we wspólnocie wierzących. W niniejszym opracowaniu, analizie poddano najpierw pojęcie starości i starzenia się w ujęciu społecznym i teologicznym, następnie przedstawiono podstawowe założenia neuroandragogiki oraz najistotniejsze aspekty katechezy osób starszych. W kolejnej części zaprezentowane zostały implikacje praktyczne dla wykorzystania wybranych elementów andragogiki i neuroandragogiki w katechezie oraz szeroko pojętej aktywności i edukacji religijnej osób starszych.

    The paper is an attempt to look at the problems of the old age, mainly from the perspective of the legislative activity undertaken within the framework of relevant national law. Apart from the analysis of the current system of institutional support for elderly citizens and old people with disabilities, the importance of these issues in the context of the demographic situation in Poland and worldwide has been emphasised. Attention has been drawn to the lack of uniformity and cohesion in the definition of old age, and to the barriers that affect the population of seniors as well as social marginalisation of the elderly citizens. On the basis of selected legal acts it has been shown that the situation of the elderly (including the disabled) is far from favourable, although the rights of old people are relatively well protected.
    Artykuł stanowi próbę spojrzenia na problematykę starości przede wszystkim od strony aktywności legislacyjnej podejmowanej w ramach prawa krajowego w tym obszarze. Poza analizą obowiązującego obecnie system instytucjonalnego wsparcia osób starszych, w tym starszych osób niepełnosprawnych, wskazano na doniosłość owej problematyki w kontekście sytuacji demograficznej w Polsce i na świecie. Zwrócono uwagę na brak jednolitości i spójności w definiowaniu starości, a także na bariery ograniczające populację seniorów oraz ich społeczną marginalizację. Na podstawie wybranych aktów prawnych wykazano, że sytuacja osób starszych (w tym niepełnosprawnych) nie przedstawia się korzystnie, mimo że prawa osób starszych są raczej dobrze chronione.

    About 148 thousand seniors live in Poznań and according to forecasts, this number will systematically increase. The cooperation of the local government, non-governmental organizations and the Church counteracts the social exclusion of this group of people and is a necessary condition for seniors to live in their environment as long as possible. The senior policy in Poznań is implemented in the areas indicated by the WHO: construction, public space management, transport, housing, social support, professional and social activation, counteracting exclusion, social support, health protection. The Center for Senior Initiatives, as a municipal unit, implements projects for seniors and cooperates with Caritas.
    W Poznaniu żyje ok. 148 tys. seniorów i według prognoz liczba ta będzie systematycznie wzrastała. Współpraca samorządu, organizacji pozarządowych i Kościoła przeciwdziała wykluczeniu społecznemu tej grupy osób i stanowi konieczny warunek, by seniorzy mogli jak najdłużej żyć w swoim środowisku. Polityka senioralna w Poznaniu jest realizowana w obszarach wskazanych przez WHO: budownictwo, budownictwo przestrzeni publicznej, transport, mieszkalnictwo, wsparcie społeczne, aktywizacja zawodowa i społeczna, przeciwdziałanie wykluczeniu, wsparcie społeczne, ochrona zdrowia. Centrum Inicjatyw Senioralnych jako jednostka miejska realizuje projekty na rzecz seniorów i współpracuje z Caritas.

    Obecny wzrost populacji osób starszych staje się nowym wyzwaniem dla teologii, w tym szczególnie antropologii teologicznej i teologii pastoralnej. Problem ten nie jest obcy aktualnemu nauczaniu papieskiemu. Świadczy o tym wyrażana przez papieży św. Jana Pawła II (1978–2005), Benedykta XVI (2005–2013) i Franciszka (2013–) troska o człowieka w podeszłym wieku w okolicznościowych przemówieniach, katechezach i homiliach. Zaangażowanie w promocję pozytywnej wizji starości i obronę godności osób starszych jest szczególnie obecne w nauczaniu papieża Franciszka. Celem artykułu była próba ukazania w świetle najnowszych rozważań papieża Franciszka o starości, z okazji ustanowienia 25 lipca 2021 roku Światowego Dnia Dziadków i Osób Starszych, jego wkładu w chrześcijańską teologię starości. W toku prowadzonych rozważań zostały kolejno przedstawione: współczesne formy wykluczenia osób starszych (1); potrzeba współpracy i solidarności między osobami starszymi i młodymi (2) oraz znaczenie pamięci osób starszych dla przyszłości człowieka (3).
    The current growth of the population of the elderly is a new challenge for theology, especially for theological anthropology and pastoral theology. This problem is also a theme of great importance in papal teaching. It shows care about the elderly in the occasional speeches, catechesis and sermons of popes St. John Paul II (1978–2005), Benedict XVI (2005–2013) and Francis (2013–). This paper analysis the teaching of Pope Francis, presenting essential aspects of his theology of aging as well as his contribution to the Christian theology of aging. In the light of recent papal reflections on the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly were presented essential aspects of his theology of aging as well as his contribution to the Christian theology of aging. This article demonstrated in sequence: firstly, contemporary forms of exclusion of older people (1); then the need for cooperation and solidarity between old and young (2) and finally the importance of the memories of the elderly for the future of mankind (3).

    W XXI wieku nauczanie papieża Franciszka, a także wcześniej Jana Pawła II i Benedykta XVI, ukazując rolę i miejsce osób starszych w społeczeństwie, przywraca im szacunek. Papież chce, by osoby w podeszłym wieku były szanowane i z właściwą uwagą otoczone troską. Udowadnia on, że ludzie starsi są nie tylko beneficjentami, lecz także dawcami. Dlatego seniorzy stanowią cenne oparcie dla młodszych pokoleń, ponieważ niosą mądrość i doświadczenie życiowe, historię rodziny i narodu, a także są świadkami wiary. Według papieża, w przeszłości szacunek wobec osób starszych był pewnego rodzaju czynnikiem warunkującym humanizm. Niewątpliwie tak również powinno być i teraz, aby pozytywnie świadczyć o jakości cywilizacji XXI wieku. Toteż starsi ludzie nie mogą być lekceważeni i odrzucani.
    In the twenty-first century, the teaching of Pope Francis, and earlier John Paul II and Benedict XVI, by showing the role and place of the elderly in society, restores respect for them. The Pope wants the elderly to be respected and cared for with proper attention. It proves that the elderly are not only beneficiaries but also donors. Therefore, seniors are a valuable support for younger generations, because they bring wisdom and life experience, family and nation history, and are also witnesses of faith. According to the Pope, in the past, respect for the elderly was some kind of determinant of humanism. Undoubtedly, this should also be the case now, in order to positively testify to the quality of the 21st century civilization. Thus, the elderly cannot be neglected and rejected.

    Opis:
    The paper presents and analyses the issues related to the protection of the rights of the elderly as reflected in the activities of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI). A particular emphasis has been put on the activities of the Polish Human Rights Defender (the Ombudsman), but the analysis also covers the activities of other national specialised bodies, which are subsequently evaluated in the light of international standards set by binding international legal instruments as well as soft law. It is then concluded that the demographic tendencies and prospects make the protection of the rights of the elderly one of the main priorities. Through the controlling and monitoring of different aspects of the activities carried out by public authorities, NHRI may inspire the shaping of adequate policies and legal framework meant to counteract discrimination and legal, and social exclusion of older people. All these measures, however, must be planned and implemented in a comprehensive manner, having regard to the society as a whole. It is argued that only those states which understand the question of ageism in a such comprehensive manner have all the chances to overcome it. On the contrary, states which as the only remedy see an increase the retirement age or taxes do not have such chances. The activities of the Human Rights Defender acting for elderly people have been enumerated. It needs to be underlined that they are well perceived on the international forums of ombudsmen. The activity of the Polish Ombudsman have been described by making references to the available legal instruments, research into social matters and regularly published recommendations. All of them support the establishment and implementation of the national ageism strategy.
    Artykuł przedstawia i analizuje problematykę ochrony praw osób starszych w działalności współczesnych krajowych instytucji praw człowieka, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem aktywności polskiego Rzecznika Praw Obywatelskich. Analiza ta obejmuje zarówno działalność krajowych instytucji o charakterze wyspecjalizowanym (ombudsmanów), jak i innych typów tych instytucji. Ocena ich aktywności w świetle standardów międzynarodowych (określanych zarówno przez wiążące instrumenty prawnomiędzynarodowe, jak i przez miękkie prawo) prowadzi do wniosku, że na skutek tendencji i prognoz demograficznych zapewnienie przestrzegania praw osób w zaawansowanym wieku staje się jednym z głównych priorytetów. Krajowe instytucje, kontrolując i monitorując w różnym zakresie działania organów władzy publicznej, mogą inspirować kształtowanie odpowiedniej polityki oraz przyjmowanie rozwiązań prawnych służących zwalczaniu dyskryminacji oraz wykluczenia społecznego i prawnego osób starszych. Działania takie powinny być jednak planowane i przeprowadzane kompleksowo, biorąc pod uwagę społeczeństwo jako całość. Ocenia się bowiem, że jedynie państwa, które pojmują i rozwiązują problem starzenia się społeczeństw w taki holistyczny sposób, mają wszelkie szanse na przezwyciężenie zagrożeń w przeciwieństwie do państw, które za jedyny ratunek przed rosnącą liczbą osób starszych uważają podnoszenie wieku emerytalnego bądź podatków. W artykule przedstawiono szczegółowo innowacyjne działania polskiego Rzecznika Praw Obywatelskich na rzecz przestrzegania praw osób starszych, doceniane w międzynarodowym gronie ombudsmanów. Aktywność tę ukazano na przykładach wykorzystania dostępnych środków prawnych, prowadzonych badań społecznych i wydawanych regularnie rekomendacjach. Przyczyniają się one do opracowania i wdrożenia polskiej strategii działań wobec starzenia się.

    Ostatnim okresem życia zdecydowanej większości ludzi jest starość. Starość wiąże się z wieloma problemami, ograniczeniami i trudnościami. Niektóre z tych problemów są ponadczasowe, więc zawsze były i będą doświadczane przez osoby starsze. Należą do nich: choroba, samotność, wykluczenie, ograniczenia... Inne pojawiają się w konkretnych formach społeczeństw, ich strukturach i systemach wartości ... Typowym przykładem takiej sytuacji jest wykluczenie osób starszych z określonych form życia społecznego z powodu przejścia na emeryturę. Będąc na emeryturze, nie przejmują ról społecznych, które są podstawą prestiżu społecznego i kryterium przydatności w społeczeństwie. Konsekwencją takiej sytuacji jest izolacja społeczna osób starszych. Każda inicjatywa mająca na celu zminimalizowanie negatywnych cech starości jest funkcjonalna i pożądana. Dotyczy to zarówno zdrowia fizycznego, jak i psychicznego, a także interakcji społecznych z innymi. To jest powód, dla którego Uniwersytety Trzeciego Wieku mają do odegrania wielką rolę w zaspokajaniu potrzeb osób starszych. Jednak niezależnie od potrzeby tych inicjatyw na rzecz seniorów oczywiste jest, że żadna z nich nie wyeliminuje wszystkich niedogodności związanych ze starością. Pogorszenie stanu zdrowia fizycznego, osłabienie zdolności intelektualnych, choroby są nieodłączną częścią starości; są częścią jej „kodu genetycznego”. Dlatego spokojne przetrwanie deficytów starości należy odnieść do perspektywy innej niż czysto naturalna. Jest to pogląd religijny, który jako jedyny może nadać pełny sens starości i ludzkiej śmierci. Tylko religia, głosząca prawdę o życiu poza granicami śmierci, jest w stanie nadać sens życiu ludzkiemu, pełnemu ograniczeń i braków.
    The last period of life of the vast majority of people is old age. Old age is associated with multiple problems, limitations and difficulties. Some of these problems are timeless, so they have always been,  and will be experienced by elderly people. These include: illness, solitude, exclusion, limitations ... Others arise within concrete forms of societies, their structures and the their value systems... A typical example of such a situation is the exclusion of elderly people from certain forms of social life, due to their retirement. Being retired they do not paly social roles that are the basis of social prestige and the criterion of suitability in society. The consequence of such situation is social isolation of old people. Any initiative to minimize the negative features of old age is functional and desirable. This applies to both physical and mental health as well as to social interaction with others. This is the reason why Universities of the Third Age have a great role to play in meeting the needs of elderly people. However, regardless of the need for these initiatives for the benefit of seniors, it is obvious that none of them will eliminate all inconveniences of old age. Deterioration of physical health, weakening of intellectual abilities, diseases are inherent to old age; they are part of the "genetic code" of old age. Therefore, the serene survival of old-age deficits must be referred to a different than purely natural perspective. It is a religious view that is the only one able to give full meaning to old age and human death. Only religion, proclaiming the truth of life beyond the boundary of death, is able to give meaning to human life, full of limitations and deficits.

    Opis:
    The article discusses the role of the city in Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by the philosopher Leszek Kołakowski, and in the animated film series Fourteen Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by Leszek Kołakowski, which is an adaptation of the book. The article is written from the point of view of the originator of the adaptation and the screenwriter of all the films in the series. The author examines the historical and ideological context of L. Kołakowski’s writing the Tales … and analyzes the role of the city understood as the setting of the plot (topos) and the venue for an exchange of ideas (agora) and for the community (polis); he does so on three levels: that of the literary original, the screenplay adaptation, and the film. He also examines the role of the city in those senses for the drama of the individual films, the philosophical and esthetic premises of the role, and – in these contexts – the relations between the selected films and their screenplays.
