W artykule przedstawiono działania administracji Trumpa wobec Unii Europejskiej. Analizując problem, starano się dociec przyczyn napięć na linii Waszyngton–Bruksela oraz zarysować główną oś sporu. Były nią napięte relacje handlowe, które weszły nawet w fazę niewypowiedzianej wojny handlowej między USA a UE. Wykazano, że istotą problemu było to, że Trump używał wyższych ceł na towary sprowadzane z Europy jako instrumentu wywierania nacisku oraz realizowania polityki wymierzonej w UE. Wspólnota zaś reagowała cłami odwetowymi. W efekcie osłabiano spoistość sojuszu transatlantyckiego.
The article presents the actions of the Trump administration towards the European Union. By analyzing the problem, they tried to find out the causes of tensions between Washington and Brussels and to outline the main axis of the dispute. It was the strained trade relations, which even entered the phase of an undeclared trade war between the US and the EU. It has been shown that the essence of the problem was that Trump used higher tariffs on goods imported from Europe as an instrument of exerting pressure and implementing policies aimed at the EU. As a result, the cohesion of the transatlantic alliance was weakened.

Opis:
The book (Un)forgotten documentalists, edited by Katarzyna Mąka-Malatyńska and Jolanta Lemann-Zajiček (2020) is a significant achievement in research on Polish documentary film. The review of the collective work, consisting of ten texts preceded by an introduction, becomes the starting point for discussions with selected authors and reflection on the problem of the absence of significant documentary filmmakers in the history of the film. Entire currents are also forgotten, such as a film about art, represented by four out of nine documentary filmmakers discussed in the book. The meanders of life and creativity can be instructive for contemporary documentary filmmakers.

Opis:
Wychowywanie uczniów na świadomych i „praktykujących” miłośników języka ojczystego winno być jednym z głównych celów szkolnej edukacji językowej. Język jako taki jest wymagającą uszanowania wartością i dlatego nacechowania etycznego wymagają jego wszystkie użycia. Wspomniany proces należy rozpocząć już na etapie nauczania wczesnoszkolnego. Jest to konieczne, jeżeli szkoła chce się skutecznie przeciwstawić negatywnym zjawiskom w zakresie komunikacji językowej – takim, jak mowa nienawiści, agresja słowna, odstąpienie od stosowania etykiety grzecznościowej.
The education of students who would become conscious and “practicing” native language lovers should be one of the main purposes of school language training. Language constitutes a value and therefore its usage is marked by ethical features. The above-mentioned process should begin at the very early stage of education. It is a necessary condition if school wants to counteract against negative phenomena present in language communication, like hatred, lexical aggression, abandoning politeness etiquette.

Throughout the Cold War, US-German relations were characterized by a clear asymmetry. This resulted not only from the imbalance between those countries’ potentials, but also from formula of the West German dependence on the American patron: the FRG relied heavily on the support and guarantees provided byWashington. In 1990, the unification of Germany introduced new elements to the relationship. New Germany became a sovereign and „normal” state, at the same time their rank and position in Europe was on the rise accompanied by a gradual weakening of the sense of dependence on the American patron. As a result, at the turn of the century US-German relations have entered a phase of mitigating the asymmetry. This process was accompanied by an unprecedented downturn in mutual relations: Germany became more assertive with respect to the Washington expectations and demands; they also became able to attitudes contrary to the American policy agenda. The United States understood that they are now dealing with a more difficult partner: one conscious of its rank, and strongly articulating its own interestsand expectations.Washington – Berlin relations have thus entered the phase of a more balanced partnership.

Pacho, the Brigand of Hybe (dir. Martin Ťapák, 1975) was announced in the press as the first truly Slovak comedy. In fact, it is a parody of the theme of brigands. Brigands’s topic was present in the Slovak cinema from its origins. From the first story Jánošík (1921) to the superproduction under the same title made by Paľo Bielik (1962–1963), the problem has always expressed the idea of freedom of the ever subdued, tormented Slovak people. Pacho, as a parody refers not only – or not so much – to the legend of brigands, as to the superproduction directed by Bielik, the giant of Slovak film history.

Dążenie do budowy pozytywnego wizerunku dotyczy nie tylko przedsiębiorstw czy firm komercyjnych. Budowanie relacji z otoczeniem nabiera coraz większego znaczenia w instytucjach non profit, do których zaliczane są między innymi biblioteki. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie działań promocyjnych realizowanych w bibliotece akademickiej. Na wstępie omówiono podstawowe pojęcia związane z public relations i wizerunkiem. Posłużono się przykładem Biblioteki Politechniki Wrocławskiej, która od wielu lat z pozytywnym skutkiem stosuje różnorodne techniki public relations. Bibliotekę czekają nowe wyzwania w związku ze zbliżającym się w 2013 roku terminem zakończenia budowy Środowiskowej Biblioteki Nauk Ścisłych i Technicznych na potrzeby Innowacyjnej Gospodarki – pierwszej w Polsce biblioteki oferującej zasoby wyłącznie w formie elektronicznej.
The ambition to create a favourable image of an organization is not exclusively important for corporate or commercial companies. Building a fair and constructive relations with the environment has also become more and more crucial for non-profit organizations such as, for example, libraries. This article aims to present promotional services that are usually performed at a typical academic library. The first part of the article includes an introduction to the basic terms and notions related to public relations and image-creating activities. The library of Wrocław university of technology is the case example in a presentation of the endeavours aiming at an improvement of these relationships. The library has been successfully implementing a number of different public relations techniques for many years. Currently, the library faces new challenges following the completion, in 1913, of the new environmental science and engineering library, the first library in Poland that would offer its resources exclusively in electronic form.

Opis:
Europe/the European Union, with its obvious trump cards, should be an active and efficient player on the international arena. Such are the expectations of the United States, formulated especially by the administration of Barack Obama. However, from the American perspective, the EU has not proved successful as an important international actor, engaged in resolving global problems and prepared to assume greater responsibility for the course of events in the world. This inertia of the EU resulted in the marginalisation of Europe in American politics, as manifested by the latter’s pivot to the Pacific Rim. It was only after the developments in the Ukraine, which resulted from Russia’s imperial tendencies, that a greater activity and coherence in American and European politics was triggered, having a positive influence also on transatlantic relations.

W artykule poddano analizie relacje amerykańsko-europejskie w okresie urzędowania Donalda Trumpa. Zwrócono uwagę na problemy, jakie pojawiły się na linii Ameryka-Europa w efekcie działań nowej administracji, a dotyczące kwestii zasadniczych, takich jak: bezpieczeństwo, stosunki gospodarcze, wzajemne zaufanie, wiarygodność. Zachwianiu uległy także relacje amerykańsko-niemieckie, jeszcze niedawno określane „partnerstwem w przywództwie” i   stanowiące ważny komponent układu transatlantyckiego. Brak uznania dla wysiłku integracyjnego Europy także nie służy dobrze wspólnocie euroatlantyckiej.
The paper analyzes European-American relations in the time of Donald Trump’s administration. Attention is drawn to the problems that appeared between the United States and Europe as a result of the actions of the new administration in terms of fundamental issues, such as security, economic relations, trust, and attachment to the values of the West. Trump seems to be the first American President who has no recognition of integration efforts in Europe. Also the American-German relations have been disturbed although they used to be called the “partnership in leadership” and represented an important component of the transatlantic system.

“Films from East” signalling the political breakdown in the middle of the 1980s (the Gorbachev era) were welcom ed in the offi cial circulation system. Th e fi lms were screened not only in festival cinemas, but on TV as well, and were discussed in newspapers and magazines. Soviet fi lms were especially important because they were able to carry new information about the changes taking place in Eastern Europe. If independent ideas appeared in a Polish fi lm, it could be banned from screening, as censorship was sensitive to works “threatening socialism” and “disturbing the alliance”. Th e only country in our part of Europe which did not need to be afraid of “disturbing the alliance” was the Soviet Union. We can distinguish three groups of such documentaries: analyses of social life (for example: Is It Easy to be Young? by Yuris Podnieks, Borderline by Tatiana Skabard), fi lms about contemporary threats, provoked by the Chernobyl disaster (An Unpublished Album by Victor Kripchenko and Volodymyr Taranchenko, Chernobyl the Chronicle of Diffi cult Weeks by Volodymyr Shevchenko) and documentaries “squaring accounts” with history, fi lling in so-called “blank spots” (Termination of an Agreement by Murat Mamedov, Solovki Power by Marina Goldovskaya).

Opis:
The Danish director Andreas M. Dalsgaard’s film The Human Scale (2012) is discussed in the context of recent documentaries on similar subjects that have been shown at human rights festivals. The Human Scale is primarily an excellent lecture on the ideas of Danish architect and urban planner Jan Gehl. The cognitive tools of persuasion and artistic means were equilibrated and combined in the film in order to convince the viewer of the value of Gehl’s concepts.

Wiosną 2009 roku przeprowadzono anonimowe badania ankietowe wśród polskich bibliotekarzy i studentów bibliotekoznawstwa. Celem badań było poznanie opinii na temat zawodu bibliotekarza, jego miejsca na rynku pracy i oczekiwań pracowników i przyszłych bibliotekarzy związanych z wynagrodzeniem za pracę. W badaniach uczestniczyło ponad 1000 osób, w różnym wieku, ze wszystkich niemalże regionów Polski. Duża liczba odpowiedzi na pytania półotwarte umożliwiła dokładniejsze zrozumienie odczuć i intencji respondentów.
In spring 2009, a series of anonymous questionnaire surveys were carried out among Polish librarians and students of library science. The aim of the survey was to find out the current state of general attitudes towards the profession of the librarian, its position on the labour market and the expectations of the group of professional workers concerning the patterns of work remuneration. The survey included a group of over 1,000 people of different age from almost all regions of Poland. A great number of answers to the half-open questions made it possible to better understand the feelings and intentions of the respondents.
