    “The statesman’s task is to hear God’s footsteps marching through history, and to try and catch on to His coattails as He marches past” (Otto von Bismarck). Populist movements all across the globe somehow managed to catch it. Additionally, this happens in the most highly advanced and well established democracies of the world. What is even more intriguing is that the explanatory power of classical variables to account for this dynamics seems limited. On the other hand the role of emotions and the constructivist power of the mind by which they are created prove to be enormously insightful. Despite those observations there exists no systematic approach to the affective dimension. In contrast to investigations, that mainly focus on one single emotion, such as the politics of fear, here the interplay of the whole emotional game is regarded key to uncover the unseen, but felt reality underneath: The analysis reveals that the emotional negativity is mainly generated as a means to an end, namely to create at the same time a positive antidote and remedy. The strongest common denominator of this emotional logic is the technique of Altercasting, whereby the negativity is projected onto alter while what is positive is used to construct auto-affirmative identity-concepts of ego. This in turn led to the conclusion that self-esteem, which is hardly ever analyzed in these contexts, lies at the heart of the emotional constellation. Populist voters are therefore not primarily seen as opponents to democracy, but much more as seekers of a positive self-concept. Therefore the democratic system´s diminuition could be understood as a collateral damage to something much deeper seated in the human psyche. The case study chosen here is the PiS party´s election victory in 2016, which, on the abstract level of rhetorical meta-frames, is regarded as a pars pro toto for what is observed globally.

    Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badania dotyczącego stylów gry, agresji i samooceny graczy MMORPG. Celem badania było sprawdzenie korelacji między tymi trzema cechami graczy oraz ustalenie preferowanego przez nich stylu gry. Zostało ono przeprowadzone w formie ankiety, za pośrednictwem internetu, na próbie 192 mężczyzn i wykazało istotne korelacje między poziomem ich samooceny a agresją, stylem gry i zachowaniami agresywnymi oraz preferowanymi stylami gry u osób z wysoką i niską samooceną.
    The article presents the results of research concerning playstyles, aggression and self-esteem among MMORPG players. The aim of the research was to verify the correlation among these three features and establish a preferred playstyle of the gamers. The research was conducted with a questionnaire, via the Internet among 192 men and showed a significant correlation between their level of self-esteem and aggression, as well as between their playstyle and aggressive behaviours and between preferred playstyles among people with high and low self-esteem.

    One of the sources of a student’s self-esteem at a younger school age are social comparisons within their peer group. Articulation disorders may limit the effectiveness of communication and increase the likelihood of a sense of shame, stigmatisation, peer rejection or limitation of social contacts, which may lead to the formation of a negative self image and lower self-esteem. The research procedure was conducted in two groups of students in 10 primary schools in the Greater Poland region with the use of a reliable and valid research tool. The discussed research results constitute a part of a larger project concerning the significance of articulation disorders of the sigmatism type for interpersonal and intrapersonal attitudes and attitudes towards the world of students completing the stage of early education. In the present text, an analysis of the empirical material from the subscale: self-esteem is presented. The analysis did not reveal statistically significant differences. However, the fact that the level of self-esteem, regardless of the presence or absence of a speech impediment, in nearly 70% of all respondents remains at an average or low level is alarming.

    Central Europeans have very rich language for describing their own countries in unflattering manner and very, very long tradition of doing so. In this article author proposes a hypothesis for unusually low collective self-esteem. It is deeply rooted in the region’s peripheral relation with the West. It is a by-product of a yawning gap between rich, powerful, industrialized West and stagnant Central Europe. Müller’s “Global East” is, from this perspective, one of the (many) attempts to overcome region’s peripheral status.

    Studies on narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder often emphasize the key role of self-esteem in the mechanisms of this disorder. In previous studies, self-esteem has often been treated as a permanent feature of an individual and has been tested using self-report questionnaires or, in some cases, using experimental methods. Assuming that self-esteem may differ depending on the situation, different methods should be used in order to observe and study the processes related to it. In order to collect self-narratives for the purposes of the study, a semi-structured interview method was prepared to examine the self-esteem regulation in social situations. During the interview, the participant answers questions related to personal life experiences. Based on the content of interviews of participants with a high level of narcissistic traits selected from 20 conducted interviews, a preliminary analysis of the proactivity and defensiveness of self-narratives was conducted. The analysis mainly concerns the autonarratives of experiences related to failures and conflicts as events particularly significant for the self-esteem of an individual. The results of the preliminary analyzes allow us to present conclusions regarding proactivity and defensiveness as well as the characteristics of self-narratives referring to self-esteem in narcissistic group.

    The article is a short analysis of the concept of identity among the population of Älvdalen Municipality and the role of the local dialect Övdalian as an indicator of this identity. The population of Älvdalen Municipality is a clear example of a language group, rather than an ethnic group, which is one of the reasons why Övdalian has not been recognized as a minority language according to the The Framework Convention for the Protection of  National  Minorities and European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.  The local vernacular has lost its former major significance as the carrier of identity and plays nowadays merely a symbolic role. To be “a member of the Övdalian community” is associated today more with the sense of common ancestry and tradition than with the ability of speaking the local vernacular. On the other hand, people from Älvdalen Municipality consider Övdalian as the major factor that unites them.

    W artykule omawiam zjawisko mitologii polsko-żydowskiej artystki, aktywnej przede wszystkim w drugiej połowie XX wieku. Jest to mitologia „długiego trwania”, sięga bowiem czasów dwudziestolecia międzywojennego, surrealizmu, awangardy i warszawskiej cyganerii artystycznej. Przykładu dostarcza mi proza Izabeli Czajki Stachowicz, a także wypowiedzi krytyków literackich i publicystów: Jana Kotta, Krystyny Kolińskiej i Ryszarda Matuszewskiego. Omawiając stereotypy płciowe i stygmaty, jakimi opisywano po wojnie twórczość Czajki, staram się pokazać negatywne aspekty jej mitologii. Z kolei w jej prozie szukam reakcji na stygmatyzację w postaci symboli rzeczy i zwierząt (totemizm).
    In this article I discuss the phenomenon of the mythology of a Polish-Jewish active artist in the second half of the twentieth century. This is a mythology of “long duration”, because it goes back to the interwar period, surrealism, avant-garde and Warsaw’s Bohemia. The example is provided by prose from Izabela Czajka Stachowicz but also statements of literary critics and journalists of Jan Kott, Krystyna Kolińska, and Ryszard Matuszewski. By means of discussing gender stereotypes and stigmas that the works of Czajka were described with after the war, I try to show the negative aspects of her mythology. In turn, I am looking for a reaction to stigmatization in the form of symbols of objects and animals in her prose.

    Participating in childbirth of his own child can be a plane for redefi ning man’s own identity and self-esteem. The study aimed to verify whether there is a relationship between the place of childbirth and selected aspects of man’s perceiving and experiencing participation in childbirth of his own child and to assess the relationship between man’s perception of childbirth as an essential life experience and an experience affecting selfesteem. The study included 147 men aged 18 to 57 years (M = 34,56; SD = 8,29) who had experience of participating in the delivery of their child. The conducted research was preliminary. The research was carried out using the diagnostics survey method and nonprobabilistic sampling. The data were collected anonymously via the survey questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics methods, with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Mann-Whitney U tests and the analysis of Spearman’s ρ rank correlation, with the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 package. The threshold of α = 0.05 was considered as the signifi cance level. Main results: (a) According to the respondents, man’s participation in birth of his own child is an important factor infl uencing self-esteem; (b) the stronger perception of childbirth as an important event in life, the more this  experience affects selfesteem according to the respondents. The research shows the importance of the father participation in the childbirth for the self-esteem level of the man. The preliminary study indicates also the need for in-depth  research on the participation of the father at childbirth and on the multifaceted importance of this presence.
    Uczestniczenie w porodzie swojego dziecka może być dla mężczyzny płaszczyzną redefiniowania własnej tożsamości oraz kształtowania poczucia własnej wartości i samooceny. Celem badania była ocena czy istnieje zależność między miejscem porodu a wybranymi aspektami postrzegania i przeżywania przez mężczyzn uczestnictwa w porodzie swojego dziecka oraz ocena zależności między postrzeganiem przez mężczyzn porodu jako istotnego doświadczenia życiowego i doświadczenia wpływającego na samoocenę. W badaniu wzięło udział 147 mężczyzn w wieku od 18 do 57 lat (M = 34,56; SD = 8,29), którzy mieli doświadczenie uczestniczenia w porodzie swojego dziecka. Przeprowadzone badania miały charakter wstępny. Badania przeprowadzono metodą sondażu diagnostycznego; dobór próby nieprobabilistyczny. Badanie było anonimowe. Zastosowano autorski kwestionariusz. Zgromadzone dane przeanalizowano metodami statystyki opisowej z wykorzystaniem testów: Kołmogorowa-Smirnowa, U Manna-Whitney’a oraz analizy korelacji rangowej ρ Spearmana przy użyciu pakietu IBM SPSS Statistics 23. Za poziom istotności uznano próg α = 0,05. Główne wyniki (a) Towarzyszenie przy porodzie swojego dziecka jest istotnym czynnikiem wpływającym w opinii respondentów na samoocenę; (b) im silniejsze jest postrzeganie przez mężczyznę porodu swego dziecka jako ważnego wydarzenia w życiu, tym silniej w opinii respondentów, wydarzenie to wpływa na samoocenę. Przeprowadzone badania wykazują, że uczestniczenie przez mężczyznę wporodzie swego dziecka ma znaczenie dla jego samooceny. Zrealizowane badania, mające charakter wstępny, wskazują na potrzebę pogłębionych badań dotyczących obecności ojca przy porodzie dziecka oraz badań dotyczących wielopłaszczyznowego znaczenia tej obecności.

    The paper presents an overview discussion of the conceptualizations of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) formulated by Russian scholars. The conceptions of the ICC are quite diverse as well as terminology used by the scholars. The authors place emphasis on the psychological aspects of the ICC, distinguishing psycho- physiological, personality, socio-psychological and psycho-pedagogical levels of its analysis.
