The aim of the article is to characterize the so-called Iranian Islamic Revolution in 1978 – 1979. First part of this paper concerns in ascertaining the chronology of the Revolution (its genesis, decline, watershed moments), the second part in distinguishing three ways of its recognition (the secular, Cold War and religious-cultural narration) in order to emphasize the differences of opinion between various groups or individuals, who took part in the Revolution. Iranian Islamic Revolution was in many ways extraordinary: unlike most revolutions in the twentieth century, which turn progressive, the Iranian one was conservative and resulted in creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran – new particular state with political system based on Shia Islam. However, Iranian Revolution did repeat the fate of its predecessors (violence, dictatorship, social discontent). After over 30 years since the beginning of the Revolution there is an ongoing discussion about its achievements and reasonableness.

Charakterystyczną cechą morfologii miast mazurskich, oprócz zabytkowej architektury i układów przestrzennych, jest znaczna skala zniszczeń z II wojny światowej oraz spuścizna odbudowy socjalistycznej. Po roku 1989 w nowych realiach społeczno-gospodarczych podjęte zostały działania naprawcze. Głównym celem artykułu, oprócz charakterystyki rewitalizacji i rewaloryzacji miast regionu, jest poznanie opinii ich mieszkańców na temat tych procesów. Do analizy wytypowano sześć miast mazurskich, o różnej skali zniszczeń wojennych, form przebudowy oraz rewitalizacji. Podstawowym materiałem analitycznym są wywiady pogłębione z mieszkańcami. Respondenci pozytywnie oceniają stopniową poprawę estetyki i funkcjonalności przestrzeni miejskiej, jednocześnie zwracając uwagę na nieład przestrzenny, skutki okresu socjalizmu oraz współczesne bariery rozwoju.
A characteristic feature of the morphology of Masurian cities, except the historic architecture and spatial layouts, is the significant scale of destruction of World War II and the legacy of socialist reconstruction. After 1989, in the new social and economic realities, renewal actions were taken. The main aim of the article, apart from the characteristics of the revitalisation and revalorisation of the studied towns, is to learn the opinions of their inhabitants about these processes. Six Masurian towns with different scale of war damage, forms of reconstruction and renewal were selected for analysis. The main analytical material are in-depth interviews with the inhabitants. The respondents positively assess the gradual improvement of the aesthetics and functionality of urban space, at the same time drawing attention to spatial disorder, the effects of the socialist period spatial plannig and contemporary barriers to development.

This paper presents experiments concerning properties of selected CV syllables. Acoustic speech signal related to particular syllables was analyzed using artificial neural networks. The goal of the analyses was to investigate whether realizations of particular syllables retain acoustic features distinctive of these syllables. Aditionally, a perception test aiming at identification of the same syllable set was carried out. In the test we analyzed to which degree it is possible to identify syllables isolated from the linguistic context. The paper discusses also results on distributional properties of syllables which indicate that such properties may play a significant role in speech perception.Percepcja audytywna, właściwości akustyczne oraz cechy dystrybucyjne sylab w języku polskim

Sytuacja kryzysowa wywołana pandemią koronawirusa SARS-CoV-2 doprowadziła do zmian w funkcjonowaniu miejskich otwartych przestrzeni publicznych, które z jednej strony stały się obiektem obostrzeń i ograniczeń rządowych, a z drugiej przedmiotem lęków i strachu ich użytkowników przed przebywaniem w dużych skupi- skach ludzi. Zdaniem autorów wpływ pandemii widoczny jest przede wszystkim w zmianie odczuć i emocji związanych z przebywaniem w przestrzeni publicznej, zachowań przestrzennych użytkowników oraz sposobów jej postrzegania. Głównym celem artykułu jest określenie wpływu pandemii koronawirusa SARS-CoV-2 na postrzeganie oraz użytkowanie miejskich otwartych przestrzeni publicznych. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone metodą CAWI (n=317), uzupełnione o treści z indywidualnych wywiadów pogłębionych.
The crisis situation caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has led to changes in the functioning of urban open public spaces. On the one hand, they have become the subject of government restrictions, but on the other hand, the subject of fears of their users which are related to being in large groups of people. According to the authors, the impact of the pandemic is visible primarily in the change of feelings and emotions related to being in public space, spatial behaviour of its users and ways of perceiving it. The main aim of the article is to determine the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on the perception and use of urban open public spaces. The study was conducted using the CAWI method (n = 317) supplemented with the content of individual in-depth interviews.

In his paper Wittgenstein and Critical Reasoning, Richard Shusterman analyses the influence which Wittgensteinian aesthetics has had on contemporary criticism. Concentrating primarily on the second phase of Wittgenstein’s philosophy, Shusterman first demonstrates how the idea of language games and related concepts undermined both essentialist deductive and quasi-scientific inductive models of criticism. In place of these two approaches, Shusterman argues, Wittgensteinian aesthetics offers a new one, which he describes as perceptual-persuasive. In the next step, however, Shusterman observes that Wittgenstein’s followers often commit the very fallacy that Wittgenstein wanted to avoid, by imposing the perceptual persuasive model as the only valid solution for criticism. However, in order to be more in line with Wittgensteinian aesthetics, he argues, we should rather recognise the plurality of possibilities – perceptual-persuasive, deductive or inductive – whose choice depends on the language game currently played.

Олександр Купрін був російським письменником, який на ранньому етапі свого життя потрапив до Києва. Сім років (1892–1899), які він провів у цьому місті, мали потужний вплив на всю його творчість. Образи Києва з'являються не тільки у збірці Київські типи (1896), але також у пізніших творах письменника, зокрема еміграційних. Олександр Купрін був справжнім реалістом, який з великою точністю намагався відобразити специфіку довкілля, завдяки чому на сторінках його творів репрезентована вся різноманітність київського життя к. ХІХ – поч. ХХ століття.
Alexander Kuprin was a Russian writer who came to Kiev early in his life. Those seven years (1892–1899) that he spent in the city had a huge impact on all his work. The images of Kiev appeared not only in his collection of sketches The Kiev Types (1896), but also in the later works of the writer, including the emigration period. Alexander Kuprin was a true realist, who, with great precision, tried to recapture the specifi cs of the reality around him. As a result, the pages of his writings refl ect all the diversity of the Kiev life of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

Celem artykułu jest analiza odbioru opowiadania Ги-ги-и! autorstwa współczesnego ukraińskiego pisarza Jurija Wynnyczuka przez pryzmat zmysłów. Prześledzono, w jaki sposób słowo artystyczne staje się łącznikiem między czytelnikiem a jego zmysłami, jak kształtuje ono w świadomości odbiorcy skojarzenia wzrokowe, słuchowe, zapachowe, smakowe i dotykowe. Studium unaocznia, w jaki sposób pisarz za pomocą estetyki brzydoty, która oddziałuje na podświadomość czytelnika, wpływając na jego zmysły, demonstruje mroczną stronę życia. W artykule wskazano również zasadność wykorzystania przez Jurija Wynnyczuka estetyki potworności. W analizach wykorzystano hermeneutyczną metodę badawczą.
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the reception of the short story Ги-ги-и! by the  contemporary Ukrainian writer Yurii Vynnychuk through the prism of the senses. It investigates how the artistic word becomes the link between the reader and their senses, how it shapes visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, and tactile associations in the consciousness of the reader. The study shows how the writer, using an aesthetic of ugliness that affects the reader’s subconscious and impacts their senses, demonstrates the dark side of life. The paper also points to Vynnychuk’s use of the monstrosity aesthetic. The study uses a hermeneutic research method.

This article examines perceptions and systems of time and temporality in live-action role-playing (larp). Taking cues from the work of management game scholar Timo Lainema, the article presents examples of the effects of game duration, asynchronicity, and boredom, and then offers a new option for viewing time at, and in, larp play.
Artykuł zajmuje się percepcją i systemami reprezentacji czasu i czasowości w larpach (live-action role-playing games). Na podstawie prac Timo Lainema, badacza gier menedżerskich, niniejszy artykuł przedstawia przykładowe efekty czasu trwania gry, asynchroniczności i nudy, a następnie proponuje nowe podejście do postrzegania czasu na - i w - larpach.

The author pays attention to the need to search new keys of interpretation of the ouevre of Ewa Lipska, recognising that the constant distinguishing feature is the anthropological aspect. The main thesis of the article is as follows: Lipska’s poetry may be treated as a particularly important evidence of cultural experiences. Also attention is focused by the author on the poetic phenomenology of sensual perception, its reflection in the awareness and memory of the subject, and also distinguishes “cultural memory” as an effect of experience. She also states that Ewa Lipska’s works are a criticism of culture – both of the so called PRL’s (Polish People’s Republic’s) culture and the later one, called the postmodern culture. The poet exposes myths and threats of post-modernity, however, the cultural experience as recorded in her works is of ambivalent character: on the one hand, it contains a negative feeling of domination of man’s existence by cyberculture, and on the other, shows the deepening and sharpening of the critical awareness of the subject, who defends himself against the inauthenticity of experience.

Do najważniejszych wyzwań środowiskowych na terenach zurbanizowanych należy zapewnienie dobrego klimatu akustycznego. Wynika to ze znaczącego natężenia aktywności będących źródłem hałasu, a także z dużej liczby ludności potencjalnie narażonej na negatywny wpływ hałasu na zdrowie fizyczne i psychiczne. Celem artykułu jest rozpoznanie społecznej percepcji ochrony przed hałasem na przykładzie Poznania. W badaniach wykorzystano kwestionariusz internetowy, skierowany do mieszkańców miasta. Zebrane informacje pozwoliły określić opinie respondentów na temat poziomu hałasu, jego najważniejszych źródeł, a także dostrzeganych oraz preferowanych działań naprawczych. Wyniki badań mogą być interesujące dla wielu miast, które stoją przed wyzwaniem identyfikacji potrzeb mieszkańców w procesie wyboru priorytetów i sposobów kształtowania klimatu akustycznego.
: Ensuring a good acoustic climate is one of the most important environmental challenges in urban areas. This is due to high noise-generating activities, as well as the large number of people potentially exposed to the negative effects of noise on physical and mental health. The aim of this paper is to investigate the social perception of protection against noise on the example of Poznań. An online questionnaire was addressed to the inhabitants of city. The collected information made it possible to recognize the respondents’ opinions on the noise level, the most important sources of noise, as well as noticed and preferred corrective actions. The results may be interesting for a lot of cities faced with the challenge of identifying the needs of their inhabitants in the process of choosing priorities and means of protection against noise.

Anno Mungen focuses on “films made for music” and on the rare phenomenon of ‘music depicted by picture’ (S. Kracauer). The narration about historical metamorphoses of varied forms of coexistence between music and picture is accompanied by a reflection on the laws of audiovisual perception. The main examples are discussed, these concentrating on the artistic ideas of Walt Disney’s animated film Fantasia and – first of all – on Edgard Varèse’s bold ideal of spatial music, attained post mortem in Bill Viola’s Déserts (1994). After a detailed analysis of Viola’s film the author admits that the movie pictures deduced from music are able to render the latter its own substantial visual power.

Przedmiotem artykułu są problemy artystycznej reprezentacji widzenia jednoocznego w kubofuturystycznej twórczości Dawida Burluka, którą Wielimir Chlebnikow scharakteryzował jako „czary martwego burluczego oka”. Analiza porównawcza poetyckiej miniatury Dawida Burluka „Kartina” (1932) i jej polskiego przekładu autorstwa Edwarda Balcerzana (1967) obejmuje aspekty językowo-stylistycznej reprezentacji podmiotowego doświadczenia percepcyjnego, literackiej tematyzacji ludzkiej cielesności, wewnątrztekstowych sygnałów aktywności twórczej tłumacza, translatorskiej transformacji doświadczenia percepcyjnego oraz sensorycznej percepcji utworu literackiego w kulturach źródłowej i docelowej.
The article discusses the problems of artistic representation of the monocular perception in David Burliuk’s cubo-futurist works characterised as the effect of the “spell cast by Burliuk’s dead eye” by Velimir Khlebnikov. The comparative analysis of the sensual poetics of Burliuk’s poetic miniature Kartina [A Picture] (1932) and its Polish translation by Edward Balcerzan (1967) embraces several aspects: the linguistic-stylistic representation of subjective perceptual experience, literary thematisation of human corporeality, in-text indicators of the translator’s creative activity, the translational transformation of perceptual experience and, finally, the sensory perception of a literary work in source and target cultures.

Opis:
The author, by taking into account popular and scientific discourse about “liquid”, “globalized” identity (viewed in the context of various social and family roles), attempts to reconstruct an image of a contemporary teenager’s identity, referring to “The Face”, a 2-minute impression by seventeen year old Szymon Kołoda. On this basis she shows areas of participation of contemporary young people, who balance between two realities: the real and the virtual one. The author supports her reasoning with the concept of hybrid identity by Zygmunt Bauman and the global teenager / culture of diffusion by Zbyszko Melosik. The aim of this article is to make a subjective, socio-psychological interpretation of identity creations present in Szymon Kołoda’s picture, rather than psychological diagnosis of the teenage actor’s “inner integrity”.
