Opis:
This article compares the interior paintings in the ‘Ades and Ohel Moshe synagogues, both of which are non-Ashkenazi, in the Naḥlaot neighborhood in Jerusalem. Although the synagogues were decorated 50 years apart, there are similarities in the painted motifs and drawing schemes, but also some differences. I suggest that these differences reflect the development of a Jewish concept of national redemption during the 50 years that elapsed between the adornment of the two synagogues.

Opis:
The article addresses the representation of art in Second Life. There is an interesting dichotomy between collective memory and colloquial aesthetic experience in virtual reality. The article consists of two main parts: the first pertains to decontextualisation as a paradigm in art; the second refers to the features of daily aesthetic experience. The main hypothesis of this paper is: digitalized images of paintings reveal changes in thinking about art in a world dominated by new media (and thus also by Second Life). This hypothesis confirms the presumption that collective memory nowadays is dominated by colloquial thinking about art, aesthetic and beauty.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to analyse the translation strategies used to translate Paul Gauguin’s painting titles from Tahitian and French to Polish. We will analyse the titles that the artist painted directly on the canvases by making them invariant just like the image itself. The translations analysed come from works on Gauguin’s art and Impressionism, published in Polish since the 1960s of the 20th century.

Opis:
The history of collecting in Denmark and Norway in the 19th century is intimately connected with the history of the painters and sculptors active during that period. Only in Copenhagen were the Royal and private collections accessible to the artists, for whom copying paintings by Old Masters formed an important part of their curriculum. Major collectors of the Age were Prince Christian Frederik (later King Christian VIII of Denmark), who mainly acquired paintings and sculptures by contemporary artists, and the portrait painter Christian Albrecht Jensen, whose preference was to buy and sell the works of Old Masters. In Copenhagen, the collections of the Counts Moltke, which mainly consisted of works by Dutch painters, was open to the public, while the Royal Collection (today a part of Statens Museum for Kunst) could only be visited from 1827 onwards. None of the three collections dealt with in the present article have survived until today, while the works of art and the antiques belonging to the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen are at present housed in the museum bearing his name.
