Screenplay, Its Kinds and Its FormsScreenplay is a phenomenon located between two different worlds, spheres and cultures: literature and cinema. In his study, Marek Hendrykowski examines the meaning and functions of all crucial terms connected with film script and screenplay, among them: concept, log line, story, synopsis, treatment, draft, first draft, storyboard, director’s draft, final script and shooting script. The author sketches step by step each of these various forms of scenario in detail, explains what they are about and why they are necessary. He also stresses the importance of rewriting and script development in the process of film creation as a means of taking the achievement to a higher level.

Between script and film cameraFor the film director the film is, in a way, “ready” before the shooting. Everything what is important for the film must be planned and worked out before its shooting. The interval between writing the script and the shooting the film is the intensive time of work for the director. He/she must decide what (kind of) movie he/she wants to do. The director must know how to organize the scenes for the shots, how the film should start and end. He/she must know who will play in the film and find a way to inspire the actors. The director prepares the rehearsals. He/she is also supposed to find interiors and exteriors for shooting, write the screenplay and draw the storyboard. The satisfy all these requirements of director has to be not only talented but work hard, be concentrated and persistent. Effects of his/her devotion to film are revealed in how the text of the script is turned into film.

The Dramaturgy of a Film Script Film scripts have a dramaturgical structure, i.e. a specific format comprising a particular number of scenes written in a predetermined order. Its vital elements are a three-act structure and two plot twists. It is also characterized by the development of tension, intended to lead to a constant rise in emotions as the story advances. The dramaturgy of the scenes and their sequence are built in many ways, the main two being suspense and delay. These are used to suspend action, slow it down in order to achieve an element of surprise, and to raise emotions in forthcoming scenes.

The article presents the complicated story of a script, originally titled “ID Card”, was written in mid-1948 by Adam Ważyk. Had the script been approved for production, it would have been one of the first Polish post-war feature films. However, this did not happen. Apart from Adam Ważyk, Aleksander Ford, Jan Fethke and Ludwik Starski also worked on subsequent versions of the script. Due to complex political circumstances, none of the versions presented was approved by decision-makers. The author presents subsequent versions of the script which change along with social and political changes in Poland. The last version entitled “False Papers”, written by Ludwik Starski in 1968, contains clear elements of an action film. However, this was not a good time for this type of production. Over a period of 20 years, the script of “False Papers” underwent a peculiar metamorphosis: from a political pamphlet, to a didactic story, and finally, an action film with an unexplained mystery and war in the background. None of these versions became a film.

The term glocal has been used to describe phenomena that simultaneously blend both global and local elements (see Featherstone, Lash, & Robertson, 1995, p. 101). Nowhere is this more evident than in the existence of 3arabizi, itself a blended language composed of English and Vernacular Arabic, written in Latin letters but using arithmographemes, that is, numerals as letters to represent hard-to-transliterate sounds because they do not exist in English (see Bianchi, 2012).1 As part of a doctoral study investigating online language choice involving Arabic and English, this paper examines the unique stylistic and topical functions of 3 arabizi when compared with its linguistic forbears, that is, Arabic and English in a multilingual web forum. The findings indicate that 3arabizi is used for more informal, intimate and phatic communication than either Arabic or English, though these latter two languages or codes are not entirely formal in form and purpose either.

Screenplay is a multifunctional project written by screenwriter or screenwriters for preparing next phases of film production. Changing and many times transformed forms of screenplay belong to the nature of screenwriting. Literary vision of film changes several times being result of synergy and typical work in progress: from general idea and high concept, through story, treatment, scalette, first draft and certain number of drafts, to final draft, director’s draft and shooting script. Marek Hendrykowski’s study describes and explains these terms as forms of literary film creation in three complementary aspects: creative re-vision, rewriting and remodeling.

The paper analyses the image of woman in the interpretative frame of Russian paremias. The author asks a number of questions: What role does the woman play in society and family? How is she treated by her husband? How do they treat their children? Who is the woman juxtaposed with? Who is she compared to? Answering these questions the author tries to reconstruct the image of woman functioning in the Russian awareness. This is the image passed from generation to generation in proverbs and sayings, which are the products of language, culture and awareness.

Authors of the series use various scenario techniques, creating the aesthetics of a black retro-crime with consciously developed allusions to the end of the communist era in Poland. They concern: space-time, dramaturgy, props, characters and the audio sphere. Their message is, on the one hand, an expression of a certain nostalgia for the lost time, and on the other, a kind of resentment with historically deepened criticism of the reality of the time. Solving a criminal mystery becomes at the same time uncovering the mystery of a double murder and a double suicide, it also refers to a mystery from many years ago, connected by the thread of romance.

This papers seeks to demonstrate the tremendous importance of the usually omitted first page of the Dresden Codex for the ongoing process of deciphering Mayan script. As an example, one could quote the recently identified Mayan term denoting a loincloth (Span. braguero, taparrabo) in the almanac 1c, which may be found on the page in question. Furthermore, the author critically discusses all possible forms in which the word can have been written, as it still defies being deciphered completely.

Rhetoric was the most important subject of the Old Polish educational system, with its roots tracing back to the tradition of the Ancient Rome. The statement itself is crucial, due to the fact of the orator’s moral and patriotic duties. Therefore, the lectures were focused not only on the technical aspects of rhetoric, but also on morality, religion and political knowledge. The article consists of two main sections. The first section is dedicated to describing the role of the rhetorical education, as well as, the evolution of the relation between rhetoric and history, which had existed from the 1st century A.D. until the first decades of the 18th century, when history began to separate from rhetoric. The second section is dedicated to presenting the history education in practice, on the example of the Jesuit college in Poznań. The analysis of the matter is based on the script of rhetoric lectures given in Poznań in 1679. With regard to the aforementioned manuscript, one could say, that the most important task of history education, was the patriotic and civil upbringing of pupils, so that they could participate in political and cultural activities. History taught at the College in Poznań was mainly dedicated to Poland, and was of practical nature.

Artykuł dotyczy sposobów przejawiania się w tekście artystycznym utrwalonych w języku i kulturze intersubiektywnych wyobrażeń o przyrodzie. Bazę materiałową stanowi piosenka Wojciecha Młynarskiego pt. Lubię wrony oraz dwa inne utwory poetyckie wchodzące z nią w relacje o charakterze intertekstualnym: List do KIG z Łodzi W. Młynarskiego i Wierszyk o wronach K.I. Gałczyńskiego. Podstawą metodologiczną opracowania jest teoria skryptów kulturowych, w połączeniu z kognitywnymi koncepcjami obrazowania oraz amalgamatu konceptualnego. Analizy pokazują, w jaki sposób wspólna wiedza kulturowa zostaje przez Młynarskiego poddana artystycznej reinterpretacji w celu wyrażenia własnego patriotyzmu w formie odbiegającej od skonwencjonalizowanych sposobów ekspresji takiej postawy.
The paper concerns various manifestations of intersubjective images of nature, established in language and culture, in an artistic text: Wojciech Młynarski’s song Lubię wrony, and two other poetic works which have intertextual relationships with it: List do KIG z Łodzi by the same author, and Wierszyk o wronach by K.I. Gałczyński. Methodologically, the paper is based on the theory of cultural scripts combined with cognitive concepts of imaging and conceptual blending. The analysis presented reveals the way in which Młynarski reinterprets shared cultural knowledge in order to express his own patriotism in a form which differs from conventionalized ways of expressing such an attitude.

Rhetoric and History in the service of education in Poland on the basis of the script of rhetoric lectures at the College of the Jesuits in Poznan from 1679. The most important subject of the Old-Polish educational system was rhetoric, having roots in the tradition of the Ancient Rome. This statement is very important because of the fact of the orator’s moral and patriotic duties. Owing to this, the lessons’ focus was not only on technical aspects of rhetoric education but also on morality, religion and political knowledge. The article is divided into two main parts. First of them is describing the role of the rhetorical education and the evolution of the connection between rhetoric and history which existed from the 1st century A.D. until the first decades of the 18th century, when history started separating from rhetoric. The second part shows the historical education in practice on the example of the Jesuit College in Poznań. The analysis of this topic was based on the script of rhetoric lectures given in Poznań in 1679.
