Opis:
Discourse markers (DMs), represented by words and phrases such as but, you know, moreover, have for many years been a widely discussed topic in linguistics in Poland and abroad. However, no attention has been paid yet to DMs in teaching Polish as a foreign language (PFL). The paper explores this neglected issue by analysing the modes of presentation of DMs in the three most popular series of textbooks for teaching PFL (levels A1-B1). The textbooks were analysed manually to identify DMs and the ways in which they are taught. The results show that the textbooks differ in the number of DMs appearing in them. However, four common problematic aspects of the instruction of DMs in the analysed textbooks were identified: translation of DMs, usage of homographs of DMs, the mechanical nature of exercises and lack of sufficient input

The primary aim of the article was a reflection on the choice of a coursebook for the Polish language course at Italian universities. The first part of this paper describes the specifics of Polish studies in Italy and focuses on conditions influencing the choice, such as: the profile of the student, type of course and the educational context. The second part presents classifications of manuals used for Polish language courses in Italy. This classifications are accompanied by a list of criteria which help to select some particular groups of manuals.The secondary aim of the article, which is presented in the last part, was to introduces an e-learning platform E-LOCAL supporting a Polish language teaching as an alternative, modern and customizable coursebook.

Foreign language learners are commonly taught explicit rules of grammar, but often fail to apply them when confronted with communicative tasks. The article provides analyses on linguistic errors encountered by teachers during language teaching processes effected in homogeneous, all-Czech groups participating in language courses. Additionally, the article discusses the problem of comprehending the glottodidactical (language education) process within the context of a particular communicative situation (cognitive approach).The main focus of the study relates to competitive planes that are subject to the occurence of linguistic interference. A particular attention is given to pronunciation, grammar (inflection and syntax), and to lexis.For primarily Czech-speaking users of the Polish language, the biggest difficulty as far as the pronunciation is concerned, is the pronunciation of alveolo-palatal consonants and palatal hard consonants that are not appropriately differntiated in their realisation (this refers in particular to [ś] and [š], but also to [č] and [ć] ). A similar problem occurs in vowels – a hard vowel [y] is frquently replaced by a soft vowel [i]. A considerable number of occurences of the dental-alveolar [l] in place of the expected [] is identified and discussed.Within the domain of inflection, the article addresses the problem of the apparent equivalence at the level of the plural nominative and singular genetive of masculine nouns (the occurence of regular interference has been demonstrated), whereas a syntactical analysis has made it possible to indicate modifications at the linear level of utterances that are mainly related to an erroneous location of the Polish reflexive pronoun “się”.With regard to lexis, the division of difficulties to be found within the glottodidactical process is raised (semantic, stylistical and onimic difficulties). Additionally, the article discusses the danger of the abuse of colloquial vocabulary in communiques created in informal situations.Key words: teaching of Polish as

The paper is an introduction to teaching the Polish language and culture to native users of closely related languages. The presented synthesis is intended for teachers interested in improving their competence in teaching Polish to East Slavs and those who have just started their adventure in Slavic glottodidactics. The paper grew out of a desire to make teaching Polish to East Slavs (mainly Ukrainans) as effective as possible due to the rapidly increasing need because of a large number of war refugees from Ukraine. Based on their experience in teaching Polish to native users of East Slavic languages, the authors pay particular attention to the Slavic intercomprehension phenomenon and its influence on the glottodidactic process. They also address the problem of the key grammatical mismatches and introduce several good practices.

The above article describes Polword, the oldest school of ‘Polish as a foreign language’ in the UK, founded by Edyta Nowosielska in London in 2000. It shows its genesis and history of development, and then talks about the problems that the school has encountered on its way as well as achievements that it can be proud of. The article shows how Polword differs from other institutions, especially from schools teaching Polish FL in Poland. It strongly emphasizes that Polword is not only a language school, but also a source of genuine Polishness in London, where learners not only gain knowledge about the language, but also can get closer to the country, learning about its culture and history

Zaproponowane ćwiczenia służyć mają poprawieniu nie tylko zdolności formułowania myśli, ale również nabraniu pewności siebie podczas wypowiadania się na piśmie i zbudowaniu zaufania do siebie i zdobytych kompetencji. Przedstawione propozycje są przeznaczone dla wszystkich poziomów znajomości języka polskiego i jako takie służyć mogą w wielu sytuacjach dydaktycznych.
The article is devoted to improving writing skills, especially among students raised in Polish communities, where they can easily communicate in spoken language, but do not sufficiently master the skill of writing in Polish language. The proposed exercises are designed to improve not only the ability to formulate thoughts, but also to gain confidence when speaking in writing and building confidence in oneself and acquired competencies. The presented proposals are intended for all levels of knowledge of the Polish language and as such can be used in many didactic situations.

To present the emergence and transformation of Polish glottodidactics, the authors refer to the earlier works of Miodunka and Gębal. The former divides the post-war history of teaching PAFL into three periods: 1) the period of applying linguistics to teaching PAFL (1950–1992), 2) the period of the development of Polish glottodidactics (1993–2003), and 3) the period of Polish glottodidactics based on European standards (2004– ). The paper ends with reflections on the emergence and evolution of comparative glottodidactics.

The authors outline the history of state examinations for certification in Polish as a foreign language, focusing on their organization and structure in Poznań. In particular, the results of the Poznań-based examinations are compared with the average results of all exams carried out in Poland and abroad, proving that, basically, they do not differ much from one another. A detailed analysis of the results makes it also possible to formulate certain postulates related to the preparation for the examination with certification for the School of Polish Language and Culture for Foreign Students at Adam Mickiewicz University that may be taken into consideration in the future.

The aim of the article has been to bring attention to the instability of the Polish pattern of electronic correspondence by using a distinct comparative background, i.e., the practice of teaching the Polish language to foreigners outside the territory of Poland (in this particular case – the Italians). The efficiency of the modern didactic methods in combination with a high degree of conventionality of the rules of language etiquette are conducive for a quick mastery of correct (expected) linguistic behaviours by the students of the Polish language learning it outside Poland. It turns out, however, that in the Internet reality, the standards of linguistic politeness – generally accepted by a given language community – undergo negative reevaluation due to which the native users of both the Polish language as well as other languages, encounter problems with a dynamic and chaotically changing formula of contacting by means of e-mail.

This paper focuses on the emergency communication of German paramedics who are learning Polish as a foreign language. This is to be tested in a role play, in which speech acts occur. Can the recorded speech acts or certain pragmatic phenomena be used in foreign language teaching of emergency communication? The study shows that the majority of patients’ responses are understood by the paramedics, but they respond to them inappropriately. Therefore, it is concluded that language courses for paramedics should focus much more on fixed phrases in Polish. The analysis of the recordings shows that this would enable them to formulate their answers in Polish, and not in German or English. In addition, code-switching sequences were used as means to identify the areas where there is a need for a modification of the programme and exercises during the lessons. The emphasis should lie on non-medical answers to the patient’s linguistic actions as well.

According to unofficial data from the Polish Consulate in The Hague, there are currently around 30 Polish and Polonia’s schools in the Netherlands. The way they operate, both in legal and educational terms, are different. This article is an attempt to categorize them. In addition, this article characterizes the existing schools by dividing them into four categories – school consultation points linked with Polish diplomatic missions, schools associated in the Polish Schools’ Forum in the Netherlands, schools operating at parishes and non-affiliated ones. According to the Dutch Planning Office, there are currently 250,000 Poles in the Netherlands. The representatives of the Polish Consulate in The Hague estimate that there may be up to 40,000 children among people of Polish descent who live in the Netherlands. Only about 2,000 of them attend Polish and Polonia’s schools. This article is the beginning to understand why only 5% of children of Polish origin who live in the Netherlands attend schools that look after Polish language.

Sugerowana strategia dydaktyczna to nauczanie językowo-literackie, w którym oba komponenty wzajemnie się dopełniają. Ilustracją tego sposobu nauczania jest podręcznik Literatura polska. The article explores issues related to literature in the context of “Polish School” abroad, focusing on the attitudes of the student and teacher, and the scope and quintessence of the educational message that is, what should “Saturday School” teach when dealing with Polish as second, and at times even foreign language. The suggested teaching strategy is that of language-literary teaching, in which both components complement each other. The Polish Literature Textbook. Texts and Exercises addressed to “Polish high school” students serves to illustrate this method of teaching.
