This paper presents results of a research study the objective of which was to analyse entries of Polish temporal propositions and their Danish equivalents. Having considered specific features of the examined class of words, the following three parameters were chosen as quality references: number of exemplary phrases, number of Danish preposition equivalents and order of examples given in the entry. Excerpts of dictionary articles were additionally compared with results of other translation confrontation.

The paper presents two complementary views on the social philosophy of Leszek Nowak – one of the most prominent, original and versatile Polish philosophers: historical and systematic. As regards the historical perspective, some brief remarks on the history of Polish analytical philosophy have been made. Two points have been underscored: First, the continuity of this history – from its creator Kazimierz Twardowski to Leszek Nowak, and his disciples. And second: the plurality of philosophical worldviews (Christian, liberal, Marxist...) which were analytically elaborated by Polish philosophers. As regards the systematic perspective, two elements are to be mentioned. Firstly, a number of arguments have been formulated to support author’s conviction that non-Marxian historical materialism is one of the most important social philosophies. Secondly, some critical remarks on this philosophy have been made.

Artykuł stanowi próbę krytycznego spojrzenia na dwa zjawiska będące wskaźnikami osiągnięcia przez miasto postindustrialnej fazy rozwoju: studentyfikacji (ang.: studentification) i wzrostu znaczenia przemysłu turystycznego (w artykule opisywanego w nawiązaniu do tzw. efektu Bilbao). Obydwa stanowią przejawy przewartościowania statusu użytkowników zewnętrznych miasta, którzy z roli względnie marginalnej awansują do pozycji znaczącego użytkownika. Wnioski o charakterze analizy literaturowej rzutowane są na konkretne dane dotyczące Poznania, w tym statystyki odnoszące się do liczby studentów, liczebności turystów odwiedzających Wielkopolskę i Poznań oraz wybrane dane z rynku nieruchomości. Wnioski z analizy prowadzą do krytycznych refleksji i nawiązania do dorobku teoretycznego Guido Martinottiego.
The article explores critical point of view of the two phenomenon indicated postindustrial phase of the urban evolution: “studentification”, and tourist industry (symbolized by the Bilbao/Guggenheim effect). Both exemplify re-valuation of the position of external users of the city which took place in the postmodern urban relations. It turns form the marginal position of “symbolic others” to the position of “significant user” – the one of the main elements of the urban investment policy. The author shows public statistics related to tourism, the “attendance” of students, and the data from the local property market, using interpretations from the literature (D. Smith, P. Hubbard, L. Vicario, M. Martinez). The observable tendencies suggested gentrification more than a revitalization as a result of the developmental factors. Finally the author climes necessity of sustainability of the local urban policy, and reinterpretation of the concept of contemporary metropolis (compare: G. Martinotti) in the light of the crisis situations (since 2008).

The review addresses the recent monograph Social and Institutional Dimensions of Axel Honneth’s Theory of Recognition by Marcin J. Byczyński (Łódź University Press, Jurisprudence Series, Vol. 17/2021, pp. 1–273). Jakub Kloc-Konkołowicz was the external reviewer of the doctoral dissertation which gave rise to the book. The essential contributions of this book are discussed against the background of former and pioneering recognition research from the Polish context, including this by Jakub Kloc-Konkołowicz and Marek Siemek. In addition, they are supplemented by Hegel’s three rights of freedom and further vital themes. This provides the following review with a contextual ‘surplus.’ Byczyński’s monograph considerably advances an important Warsaw-Poznań research strand and is notable for its originality among the books devoted to Honneth’s Theory of Recognition.

The text analyzed a group of blogs. They are considered as an example of a distributed expert and a distributed database. In addition, they illustrate a well-functioning informal collective of producingknowledge. The text indicates the specific functioning of the debate around science and socioscientificcontroversies in Internet based public sphere. The functioning of grassroots experts and distributed databases should be considered as a reference in an effort the reform of official university based structures of knowledge. Crucial question is how to reconcile the dynamics of the activity created by the blogging platform of reliability achieved in the context of traditional knowledge structures.

The present paper addresses doubtful cases concerning the use of umlaut in the adjectival comparison of contemporary German: bang ‘anxious’ – banger/bänger – am bangsten/bängsten. It aims to shed light on the concrete distribution of this variation, i.e. the preference for one of the variants. Corpus-based analyses will show that the adjectives under discussion are not equally affected by umlaut variation: some are (surprisingly) stable (e.g., gesund ‘healthy’), whereas many others have a clear preference (i.e. > 70%) for non-umlauting forms (e.g., blass ‘pale’, nass ‘wet’). Interestingly, a few of the supposedly stable cases appear to have at least some non-umlauting forms (e.g., krank ‘ill’, nah ‘near’, grob ‘rough’). Even more interesting (but still comparatively rare) is the use of umlaut in conceptual orality contexts with adjectives that exhibit no umlaut comparison in Standard German, e.g., klar ‘clear’, falsch ‘wrong’, doof ‘stupid’. As will be demonstrated, these doubtful cases reflect a centuries-old and still ongoing reorganization process within umlaut comparison. It will turn out that a complex network of interacting factors such as token frequency, phonological schemas, and morphological complexity is at work.

W roku 1924 nakładem Biblioteki Narodowej ukazał się tom powieści poetyckich Goerge’a Byrona w opracowaniu Andrzeja Tretiaka. We wstępie oraz licznych przypisach Tretiak uzasadnił wybór konkretnych przekładów i uszeregował je pod względem jakości, jednocześnie wskazując na błędy tłumaczy oraz pozostawione przez nich naddatki. Badacz skupił się również na ocenie wybieranych przez tłumaczy rozwiązań, czasami zamieszczając dla porównania własne wersje niektórych fragmentów. Artykuł prezentuje krytyczną analizę komentarzy Tretiaka do dwóch przekładów: Korsarza i Lary, prowadzącą do weryfikacji tezy badacza, według której najlepszym polskim tłumaczem Byrona był Julian Korsak, a najgorszym – Antoni Edward Odyniec.
In 1924, the Polish National Library published Andrzej Tretiak’s edition of George Byron’s tales in verse. In the introduction and numerous footnotes, Tretiak explained why specific translations were selected and ranked them in terms of quality, pointing out the mistakes and the changes made by the translators. Tretiak also evaluated the solutions chosen by the translators, at times comparing them with his own translations. The article presents a critical analysis of Tretiak’s comments to two translations, “The Corsair” and “Lara,” which allowed him to conclude that the best Polish translator of Byron was Julian Korsak, and the worst, Antoni Edward Odyniec.

Bezdomność zwierząt w krajach kultury zachodniej jest poważnym wyzwaniem społecznym, ze względu na dobrostan populacji ludzkich i zwierzęcych. W związku z tym coraz większy nacisk kładzie się na kontrolowanie wielkości populacji zwierząt towarzyszących, szczególnie zwierząt bezdomnych i wolno bytujących. Najczęściej wskazuje się trzy metody ograniczania bezdomności zwierząt: edukowanie właścicieli, trwałe znakowanie zwierząt oraz sterylizacje/kastracje zwierząt. W Polsce obowiązek zapobiegania bezdomności zwierząt spoczywa na samorządach gminnych. Mimo że polski ustawodawca umożliwia gminom wprowadzanie programów sterylizacji/ kastracji zwierząt mających opiekunów, niewiele gmin z tego korzysta, co jest oceniane krytycznie przez Najwyższa Izbę Kontroli. W niniejszym tekście zaprezentowano wyniki badań wprowadzania przez gminy w Wielkopolsce programów sterylizacji/ kastracji zwierząt właścicielskich, a także przyczyn niechęci samorządów do przeznaczania środków na realizację tych programów.
Homelessness is a serious social challenge. Increasing emphasis is placed on controlling the size of the population of animals, particularly stray and feral ones. Three methods of reducing homelessness are most often indicated: education of animal owners, spaying/ neutering animals, and their permanent identification. In Poland the prevention of animal homelessness is a responsibility of the local municipalities. Although legislation allows municipalities to promote spaying/ neutering animals that have owners, there are not many municipalities which decide to dedicate a budget for such activities. This is evaluated negatively by the highest Polish authorities and controlling institutions. In this text we present empirical research on introducing programs that encourage the owners of animals to conduct spaying/castrating procedures. We also identify reasons why municipalities are not willing to designate resources for this purpose.

The article consists of two short parts. The first part explores rather theoretical problems chosen by the author during his current work. Among them is the titular problem – the crucial moment in somebody’s life, with all its consequences. The second part contains the opening excerpt from Bobkowski’s biography recently written by the author. According to the researcher, it sets up the biographer’s tone and the whole approach to the subject. This initial part of the upcoming book entitled The Escape is an example of the implementation of the ‘decisive moment’ concept in practice.

To ona, uzasadniając jego status ikony pisarstwa środkowoeuropejskiego, okazała się punktem odniesienia dla toczących się wokół postaci pisarza dyskusji, związanych z istnieniem w Serbii postmodernizmu. Historia ataków na Kiša dopełniona zostanie najnowszymi, postkolonialnymi, inicjowanymi także z pozycji „zaangażowania”,rewizjami oceny dorobku twórcy. Zaprezentowane sposoby „użycia” wizerunku i twórczościKiša potwierdzają tezę Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak o tym, że etyczny cel badań postkolonialnychjest w zasadzie „doświadczaniem niemożliwego”.
Both in the days of Yugoslavia as well as after its collapse commitment has become the keycategory for reading Danilo Kiš’s works. It is exactly the category of the ethical commitment thatbecame the point of reference of discussions about the writer associated with the existence ofpostmodernism in Serbia. It is also the same category that established Kiš’s status as one of themost noted writers of Central and Eastern Europe. The history of attacks on Kiš will be supplemented with the newest postcolonial reinterpretations of his achievements initiated from the position of „commitment”. The presented ways of using Kiš’s image and his artistic work confirm the Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak’s thesis that ethical purpose of postcolonial research is infact „experiencing the impossible”.
