    This article focuses on the phenomenon of memory as reflected both in Chekhov’s dramas and works of prose. The phenomenon of memory manifests itself by referring to the main ideas in Chekhov’s poetics: bond of times (past – the present time – future), eternity, suffering, artistic work, happiness, life and death, and the truth of life. However, examining a given phenomenon requires attentive reading because Chekhov counts on an attentive reader who is able to capture the essence among the details of everyday life.

    Opis:
    The purpose of the present article is to discuss two literary motifs that can be traced throughout Anton Holban’s prose works: music and the sea. Holban, who wrote also music reviews for newspapers, had a genuine passion for music, which is reflected in his novels and short stories. Music appears in Holban’s literature as the highest form of artistic expression, and, at the same time, as a special and unique code used by lovers to communicate with each other, which isolates them from other people. Music seems to be more important than a relationship with a woman and even than literary creation. It may become an obsession. Listening to music in solitude gives the narrator an opportunity to explore his inner world and to be himself. The sea means much more than a landscape in Holban’s works. Like music, it has a symbolic dimension, being for the protagonists a source of extatic, almost mistic experience, as well as a witness to their deepest and most intimate feelings. From philosophical point of view, the sea means infinity, eternal movement and perfection.

    The anthroponyms of two heroes, Kovrin and Pesotsky, are analyzed in Anton Chekhov’s The Black Monk. Despite the conditional landscape and philosophical discourse of the story it is possible to analyze these names from linguistic, intertextual and art-interpretative positions. Also, the precedential names enrich this research.

    The arrest, trial, and execution of the anarchist activist Salvador Puig Antich in 1974 were some of the most crucial events in the final years of general Franco’s regime. These facts gave rise to an enormous political mobilisation both in Catalonia and in Europe, and turned Puig Antich into a symbol of anti-Franco resistance within Catalan democratic culture. At the same time, due to both this symbolic status and the traumatic nature of the events, as well as the manifest injustice with which they concluded, the Puig Antich case has been the object of regular commemoration in the media and in diverse forms of cultural production. This makes it particularly interesting for an analysis of the uses of the past in Catalan culture. This article proposes a comparative analysis of three books on Puig Antich’s case that have been published in Catalan over a period of thirty years: La torna de la torna: Salvador Puig Antich i el M.I.L., by the Carlota Tolosa collective (1985), Compte enrere: La història de Salvador Puig Antich (2001), by Francesc Escribano, and Salvador Puig Antich, cas obert: La revisió definitiva del procés (2013), by Jordi Panyella. These three journalistic texts, published at different but highly significant historical moments, allow us to reflect on the rewriting of the Puig Antich case and its meaning for Catalan society, especially with regards to the political and national sentimentality they construct around the relationship of Catalan society with political violence and the trauma of Francoist repression.

    Opis:
    The relation between communism and religion is a complex and contested question. In this article I will engage with this question concerning one specific thinker, namely Wilhelm Weitling (1808-1871). Weitling researchers have interpreted religion differently and have seen it as everything from the foundation of all his thought, to a negligible addition to a basically secular theory. In this article I argue that Weitling’s work needs to be understood as expressing a Christian political language, in the sense suggested by the intellectual historian J. G. A. Pocock. Departing from this, this article seeks to unpack the Christian political language of Wilhelm Weitling and to sort out how it is expressed in his three main works.
    Relacja komunizmu i religii stanowi obszerne i budzące spory zagadnienie. W artykule odnoszę się do tej kwestii, przywołując specyficznego myśliciela, mianowicie: Wilhelma Weitlinga (1808-1871). Badacze jego idei interpretowali religię w różny sposób, traktując ją jako to, co stanowiło sam fundament jego poglądów, lub, dla odmiany, jako nieznaczący dodatek do jego świeckich teorii. W niniejszym studium argumentuję, że prace Weitlinga powinny być rozumiane jako wyrażające chrześcijański język polityczny w sensie, jaki nadał temu terminowi historyk J.G.A. Pocock. Wychodząc z tego założenia, artykuł zmierza ku ujawnieniu sposobów wyrazu chrześcijańskiego języka Weitlinga i do wskazania, w jaki sposób manifestował się on w jego trzech najważniejszych pracach.
