The paper analyzes the concept of landscape and its various embodiments in art and nature. On the one hand, one can claim that our understanding of the landscape is constituted by conceptual oppositions like human/non-human, artifactual/natural, culture/nature; on the other, one may notice that landscapes occur in the space “between” these oppositions. Furthering this observation, I lodge an objection to the approach of certain exponents of environmental aesthetics who opt for replacing the notion of landscape by that of environment because I would argue that the former is still informative.

The paper aims to identify the main trends and recommendations for the development of merchandise trade in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) integrating environment through the analysis of its mutual and foreign (internal and external) merchandise trade. The study is based on the official statistical data for 2014–2018 and economic comparisons and systematisation (including geographical systematisation). The results show that the intensification of mutual and foreign trade in the EAEU is possible by stimulating consumer and industrial demand, enhancing exports of high tech products and diversifying exports, and strengthening the cooperation within the EAEU and with other countries and integration associations.

This paper will analyse the role played by technology in Peter Sloterdijk’s theory, where he seeks to redefine and reconstruct ethics, society and democracy. Indeed, the philosopher’s project is to build a new kind of society, which risks being antidemocratic and elitist: technopolitics. This lemma refers to Sloterdijk’s reconfiguration of the social structure through the elimination of the human rights paradigm in a technological and anti-egalitarian manner. In order to do this, Sloterdijk redesigns the environment as a dangerous place whose rules cannot be followed, and which must be reshaped through technology. Hence, the philosopher reduces ethics to technology, and reinterprets society on the basis of new techno-ethical premises which support a hierarchical and selective new polis.

Every year, more and more immigrants come to Poland. They settle in our country together with their school-age children. One of the tasks that immigrants and their children face is integration into Polish society. In the case of foreign children, it usually takes the form of integration into the school environment as they have the most frequent contact with the Poles at school. Integration into the school environment involves the inclusion of immigrant students in the social life of the school and simultaneously opening up the entire school community to their presence. Unfortunately, culturally different children encounter many obstacles, which significantly impedes success. These obstacles relate primarily to the lack of knowledge of the Polish language, emotional problems and a negative attitude towards their peers and their parents as well as to the teaching staff.

The author analyzes artistic practices associated with the natural world, “from land art to garden art”. In an overview of historical currents in art (since the 1960s), plant art is highlighted as an instrument of critique of land art, and a self-standing current which, among other things, addresses social issues and ecological threats. The author also analyzes specific examples of garden-related artistic practices within the cityscape, considering the criteria under which certain projects can be seen as successful (models to emulate). The text concludes with open-ended questions about the place of plant art in present-day critical discourses, i.e. with respect to landscape architecture, bioart, and technonature.

The starting point for these deliberations are the following four assumptions: (i) ‘environment’ is understood here as the entire universe, together with the natural environment, constituting a common good of the mankind (ii) the man himself and his activity are believed to have the greatest significance for the environment and the nature as well as the man himself and, consequently, (iii) the environmental problems must be considered not only on the micro scale (i.e. locally) but also on the macro scale (i.e. regionally, or even globally) and thus, in practice (iv), in order to facilitate effective realisation of environmental goals using legal instruments, one must first establish a certain axiological base that may be used to form an adequate legal system. In view of this, the rule of ‘sustainable development’ set forth in the final Declaration of the United Nations Conference for the Environment and Development held in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro proved to be the paradigm for all contemporary environmental policies and related legal solutions in the field of environment protection on a global scale and in international law. The implementation of the rule of sustainable development can be achieved through a set of various legal instruments but its practical application each time requires using a certain ‘algorithm’ that enables precise presentation of any consequences, in particular those dangerous to the environment, that may be caused by a given human activity. However, harmonic realisation of goals (ecological, economic and social) that are competing and yet complementary, requires development of a special ethos that will respect the requirements of so-called multi-generation ecological ethics.
Punkt wyjścia niniejszych rozważań stanowią cztery założenia, a mianowicie: 1) ‘środowisko’ rozumiane jako pewne uniwersum, a więc cały wszechświat razem z przyrodą, stanowiący wspólne dobro ogółu ludzi; 2) równocześnie sam człowiek i jego działalność mają największe znaczenie dla środowiska i przyrody oraz dla człowieka; 3) dlatego problemy środowiska muszą być rozpatrywane nie tylko w mikroskali (tzn. w skali lokalnej), lecz także w makroskali (tzn. w skali regionalnej względnie globalnej); 4) w praktyce oznacza to, że w celu umożliwienia efektywnej realizacji celów środowiskowych przy wykorzystaniu instrumentów prawnych musi zostać ustalona naprzód określona baza aksjologiczna, na której można się oprzeć w celu sformułowania lub wywiedzenia z niej odpowiedniego systemu rozwiązań prawnych. W tej sytuacji przyjęta w Deklaracji końcowej Konferencji Narodów Zjednoczonych na rzecz Środowiska i Rozwoju (UNCED) w 1992 r. w Rio de Janeiro zasada sustainable development okazała się paradygmatem współczesnej polityki środowiskowej oraz towarzyszących jej rozwiązań prawnych w zakresie problematyki ochrony środowiska w skali globalnej i w prawie międzynarodowym. Urzeczywistnieniu podstawowej zasady sustainable development służy wprawdzie cały szereg instrumentów prawnych, ich praktyczne wykorzystanie wymaga jednak w każdym wypadku posłużenia się stosownym ‘algorytmem’, który umożliwi dokładne ukazanie wszelkich konsekwencji, w tym w szczególności zagrożeń dla środowiska, jakie powodować może określona aktywność ludzka. Przy czym harmonijna realizacja konkurujących i zarazem wzajemnie komplementarnych celów (ekologicznego, ekonomicznego i socjalnego), wymaga ukształtowania szczególnego etosu respektującego wymagania tzw. międzypokoleniowej etyki ekologicznej.

The article concerns the child from an alcoholic family in a pre-school environment. The author presents a theoretical introduction on definitions important for understanding the subject, then addresses the subject of social pathology as a factor disturbing the durability of the family system. The topic of social roles in the alcoholic family and their impact on the child’s socialization process continue to arouse interest. Another issue raised in the article is the topic of co-dependence, starting from the general definition and understanding of the concept and ending with the impact of this phenomenon on the child’s functioning. The issue analyzed and reflected is as follows: a child from an alcoholic family as a student – in particular in relationships with teachers and peers. The author reflected moreover on the possible difficulties a child in a pathological family may encounter in the school environment, as well as on suggested practical solutions and a support network that may help the individual and its immediate environment to fight against difficulties and to motivate change. The article has an introduction and ending, which aptly sums up the issues dealt with.

Celem artykułu jest analiza konfliktu rosyjsko-ukraińskiego w kontekście międzynarodowego środowiska bezpieczeństwa. Omówiono w nim ewolucję relacji rosyjsko-ukraińskich od rozpadu Związku Socjalistycznych Republik Radzieckich po obecne groźby wywołania otwartej wojny przez Federację Rosyjską. Artykuł analizuje konflikt rosyjsko-ukraiński w perspektywie działań podejmowanych przez państwa zachodnie, interpretując rosyjski szantaż użycia siły wobec Ukrainy jako element presji na międzynarodowe środowisko bezpieczeństwa i instrument osiągania rosyjskich celów strategicznych w polityce zagranicznej.
The aim of the article is to analyse the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in the context of the international security environment. It discusses the evolution of Russian-Ukrainian relations from the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to the current threats of open war by the Russian Federation. The article analyses the Russian-Ukrainian conflict from the perspective of actions taken by Western countries, as well as interprets the Russian blackmail to use force against Ukraine as an element of pressure on the international security environment and an instrument for achieving Russian strategic foreign policy goals.

Nowadays, the subject of a family is often mentioned and researched. It’s needs, transformations, crisis, roles and functioning are widely discussed. It is indeed a very complex issue. The article present the theoretical background and mention diverse sources concerning issues such as: single families, preschool environment, child development, single parenting – definitionsand models, pre-school environment, child development, challenges and support for a child from single parent family in a kindergarten. The great role of teacher-educator and other specialists, but also working with institutions in the process of supporting the family. In the text the organization of comprehensive assistance for the child was also highlighted. In conclusion, the author referred to the results of her mini-resources and pointed to the need to support the child in the area of emotional and social functioning, which in case of children from single parent family is particularly vulnerable and shaky.

The anchoring of Andrej Hlinka in the consciousness of the Slovak society went through a number of changes. In the period of the existence of Austro-Hungary, the time of increasing Magyarization, Hlinka, as a result of the tragedy in Černova, he became a symbol of the struggle of the Slovaks for national freedom. Hlinka gained the aureole of a martyr fighting for the right of the Slovak nation for its separate existence. Aft er the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic, Hlinka became the leader and Father of the Slovak nation, fighting for a greater freedom of the Slovak nation, this time in the form of autonomy within the new state. In the 1930s it was primarily his followers who nurtured the cult of Hlinka’s person, which flourished at the time of his seventieth birthday celebrations. Hlinka was at the time perceived as the greatest living Slovak and the man who had the greatest merit in reforming the Slovaks into a modern nation.

Over the past few decades, researchers of drug addiction have drawn attention to the unprecedenteddynamics in the positions on drugs and a growing number of people who admit to the use of suchsubstances for hedonistic and recreational purposes. An intensification of drug addiction led to theidentification of a large number of drug-related problems which occur on individual, social and globallevels. The last decade has abounded in seemingly uncontrollable, numerous events linked mainly to the spread of “legal highs”. These events included: legal trade in those products in Poland, two waves of numerous deaths associated with their use, the extremely unscrupulous distribution of “legal highs”through websites, and particularly the liberalisation of attitudes towards those new designer drugs. The considerable importance in creating positions in favour of drug use should also be attributed to the popularity of marijuana, increasingly gaining a status of a recreational drug. This paper discusses the current reasons why the youth begin to use drugs as identified in the school environment. The research focused on obtaining reliable data allowing to diagnose the phenomenon of drug use by the young people in Podkarpacie Province and to determine factors contributing to drug initiation among this segment of population. In the quantitative research, the empirical data were collected through a specially designed questionnaire from a random sample of young people from 27 secondary schools in Podkarpacie Province (n=2237). Within the sample, 712 students (31%) admitted to using drugs. The most important educational factors for promoting psychoactive substances are low involvement in education and frequent school absences. Drugs are more commonly used by older students. The research material presented in this article can be successfully used by practitioners in the field, including sociologists, educators and psychologists, and by institutions active in social prevention. It can also form the starting point for further explorations of this important social phenomenon.

The author argues that it is not possible, especially in an urbanized landscape, to trace any clear dividing lines between natural structures and processes and those caused by the human. Simplifying things to the extreme, we assume that “wildlife” includes those organisms which live permanently (or are capable of living) in a given area without any deliberate human assistance. Arguments for sustaining “wild life” in city parks are many, deriving from humanitarian, ecological, social, or economic considerations. The author acquaints the reader with research conducted as part of the project Nature of the Skaryszewski Park. The diagnosis relating to that Warsaw park enabled the formulation of a range of recommendations whose application would protect and foster living nature in city parks.

The author examines the use of nicknames by the Hungarians in Slovakia. Since the state and the verbal representation of nicknames are strongly influenced by the Hungarian-Slovak bilingual environment, the appearing contact phenomena in the anthroponymic corpus are also investigated in this study. In addition, the paper deals with written nicknames found in written sources, the denomination motives of nicknames used in modern language, sociolinguistic, dialectological, etymological, morphological, and stylistic peculiarities found in the onomastic corpus. The usage of nicknames of adults and students is confronted and discussed with reference to an empirical and comparative study.

DOI: 10.14746/kse.2019.16.1 The aim of the article is to present a critical analysis of the social model of disability.In the first part, the author discusses the genesis, essence and basic advantages of the social model of disability. Next, five major disadvantages of this model are analysed:/1/ avoiding dealing with impairment as an important aspect of the lives of people with disabilities, /2/ separating impairment from disability, /3/ assuming that all people with disabilities are exposed to social oppression, /4/ postulating the creation of an environment without barriers and /5/ assuming that disability is the basis of the identity of people affected by it. In the final part of the article, the author presents reflections on the possibility of creating a new, more holistic model of disability.
