Opis:
For a class of infinite-dimensional minimization problems with nonlinear equality constraints, an iterative algorithm for finding global solutions is suggested. A key assumption is the convexity of the "epigraph", a set in the product of the image spaces of the constraint and objective functions. A convexification method involving randomization is used. The algorithm is based on the extremal shift control principle due to N.N. Krasovskii. An application to a problem of optimal control for a bilinear control system is described.

For an age-dependent model with a dominant age class an w-periodic regime of the population size is sought by means of impulsive perturbations. For both noncritical and critical cases of first order the problem is reduced to operator systems solvable by a convergent simple iteration method.

Opis:
A mathematical model for fluid and solute transport in peritoneal dialysis is constructed. The model is based on a three-component nonlinear system of two-dimensional partial differential equations for fluid, glucose and albumin transport with the relevant boundary and initial conditions. Our aim is to model ultrafiltration of water combined with inflow of glucose to the tissue and removal of albumin from the body during dialysis, by finding the spatial distributions of glucose and albumin concentrations as well as hydrostatic pressure. The model is developed in one spatial dimension approximation, and a governing equation for each of the variables is derived from physical principles. Under some assumptions the model can be simplified to obtain exact formulae for spatially non-uniform steady-state solutions. As a result, the exact formulae for fluid fluxes from blood to the tissue and across the tissue are constructed, together with two linear autonomous ODEs for glucose and albumin concentrations in the tissue. The obtained analytical results are checked for their applicability for the description of fluid-glucose-albumin transport during peritoneal dialysis.

Our aim is to adapt Fletcher's filter approach to solve optimal control problems for systems described by nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) with state constraints. To this end, we propose a number of modifications of the filter approach, which are well suited for our purposes. Then, we discuss possible ways of cooperation between the filter method and a PDE solver, and one of them is selected and tested.

Opis:
Predictive control based on linear models has become a mature technology in the last decade. Many successful real-time applications can be found in almost every sector of industry. Nonlinear predictive control can further increase the performance of this easy-to-understand control strategy. One of the main problems of implementing nonlinear predictive control is the computational aspect, which is of most importance in real-life applications. In this paper, suboptimal nonlinear predictive control strategies are proposed and compared. The nonlinear predictors are built based on neural identification methods or by white modelling. The use of diophantine equations, which is a common technique to calculate the optimal contribution of the noise model, is avoided by using a more natural method. The comparison between the control algorithms is made based on a simulated discrete multivariable nonlinear system and a continuous stirred tank reactor.

Opis:
A method for reducing controllers for systems described by partial differential equations (PDEs) is applied to Burgers' equation with periodic boundary conditions. This approach differs from the typical approach of reducing the model and then designing the controller, and has developed over the past several years into its current form. In earlier work it was shown that functional gains for the feedback control law served well as a dataset for reduced order basis generation via the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). However, the test problem was the two-dimensional heat equation, a problem in which the physics dominates the system in such a way that controller efficacy is difficult to generalize. Here, we additionally incorporate a nonlinear observer by including the nonlinear terms of the state equation in the differential equation for the compensator.
