Opis:
Nonlinear control of the squirrel induction motor is designed using sliding mode theory. The developed approach leads to the design of a sliding mode controller in order to linearize the behaviour of an induction motor. The second problem described in the paper is decoupling between two physical outputs: the rotor speed and the rotor flux modulus. The sliding mode tools allow us to separate the control from these two outputs. To take account of parametric variations, a model-based approach is used to improve the robustness of the control law despite these perturbations. Experimental results obtained with a laboratory setup illustrate the good performance of this technique.

Opis:
In this paper, a two-dimensional steady flow of a viscous fluid due to a stretching sheet in the presence of a magnetic field is considered. We proposed two new numerical schemes based on the Haar wavelet coupled with a collocation approach and quasi-linearization process for solving the Falkner-Skan equation representing the governing problem. The important derived quantities representing the fluid velocity and wall shear stress for various values of flow parameters Mand βare calculated. The proposed methods enable us to obtain the solutions even for negative β, nonlinear stretching parameter, and smaller values of the magnetic parameter ()M1< which was missing in the earlier findings. Numerical and graphical results obtained show an excellent agreement with the available findings and demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the developed schemes. Another significant advantage of the present method is that it does not depends on small parameters and initial presumptions unlike in traditional semi-analytical and numerical methods.

The positivity and linearization of a class of nonlinear continuous-time system by nonlinear state feedbacks are addressed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the positivity of the class of nonlinear systems are established. A method for linearization of nonlinear systems by nonlinear state feedbacks is presented. It is shown that by a suitable choice of the state feedback it is possible to obtain an asymptotically stable and controllable linear system, and if the closed-loop system is positive then it is unstable.

Opis:
This paper examines the inverse control problem of nonlinear systems with stable dynamics using a fuzzy modeling approach. Indeed, based on the ability of fuzzy systems to approximate any nonlinear mapping, the nonlinear system is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy system, which is then inverted for designing a fuzzy controller. As an application of the proposed inverse control methodology, two popular control structures, namely, feedback linearization and Nonlinear Internal Model Control (NIMC) are investigated. Moreover, the paper points out that, under some conditions, both of the control structures are equivalent and naturally implement a Smith predictor in the presence of time delays.

This contribution deals with different concepts of nonlinear control for mechatronic systems. Since most physical systems are nonlinear in nature, it is quite obvious that an improvement in the performance of the closed loop can often be achieved only by means of control techniques that take the essential nonlinearities into consideration. Nevertheless, it can be observed that industry often hesitates to implement these nonlinear controllers, despite all advantages existing from the theoretical point of view. On the basis of three different applications, a PWM-controlled dc-to-dc converter, namely the Cuk-converter, the problem of hydraulic gap control in steel rolling, and the design of smart structures with piezolelectric sensor and actuator layers, we will demonstrate how one can overcome these problems by exploiting the physical structure of the mathematical models of the considered plants.

Opis:
A new approach to control an omnidirectional mobile manipulator is developed. The robot is considered to be an individual agent aimed at performing robotic tasks described in terms of a displacement and a force interaction with the environment. A reactive architecture and impedance control are used to ensure reliable task execution in response to environment stimuli. The mechanical structure of our holonomic mobile manipulator is built of two joint manipulators mounted on a holonomic vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with three driven axles with two spherical orthogonal wheels. Taking into account the dynamical interaction between the base and the manipulator, one can define the dynamics of the mobile manipulator and design a nonlinear controller using the input-state linearization method. The control structure of the robot is built in order to demonstrate the main capabilities regarding navigation and obstacle avoidance. Several simulations were conducted to prove the effectiveness of this approach.

Opis:
The combination of model predictive control based on linear models (MPC) with feedback linearization (FL) has attracted interest for a number of years, giving rise to MPC+FL control schemes. An important advantage of such schemes is that feedback linearizable plants can be controlled with a linear predictive controller with a fixed model. Handling input constraints within such schemes is difficult since simple bound contraints on the input become state dependent because of the nonlinear transformation introduced by feedback linearization. This paper introduces a technique for handling input constraints within a real timeMPC/FL scheme, where the plant model employed is a class of dynamic neural networks. The technique is based on a simple affine transformation of the feasible area. A simulated case study is presented to illustrate the use and benefits of the technique.

Opis:
An output-feedback decentralised formation control strategy is pursued under pole-region constraints, assuming that the agents have access to relative position measurements with respect to a set of neighbors in a graph describing the sensing topology. No communication between the agents is assumed; however, a shared one-way communication channel with a pilot is needed for steering tasks. Each agent has a separate copy of the same controller. A virtual structure approach is presented for the formation steering as a whole; actual formation control is established via cone-complementarity linearization algorithms for the appropriate matrix inequalities. In contrast to other research where only stable consensus is pursued, the proposed method allows us to specify settling-time, damping and bandwidth limitations via pole regions. In addition, a full methodology for the decoupled handling of steering and formation control is provided. Simulation results in the example section illustrate the approach.

Input-output linearization by state feedback is applied to a flux-controlled active magnetic bearing (AMB) system, operated in the zero-bias mode. Two models of the AMB system are employed. The first one is described by the third-order dynamics with a flux-dependent voltage switching scheme, whereas the second one is the fourth-order system, called self-sensing AMB, since it does not require the measurement of the rotor position. In the case of that system we had to find the flat outputs to guarantee its stability. The proposed control schemes are verified by means of numerical simulations performed within the Matlab environment.

Opis:
This paper describes computationally efficient model predictive control (MPC) algorithms for nonlinear dynamic systems represented by discrete-time state-space models. Two approaches are detailed: in the first one the model is successively linearised on-line and used for prediction, while in the second one a linear approximation of the future process trajectory is directly found on-line. In both the cases, as a result of linearisation, the future control policy is calculated by means of quadratic optimisation. For state estimation, the extended Kalman filter is used. The discussed MPC algorithms, although disturbance state observers are not used, are able to compensate for deterministic constant-type external and internal disturbances. In order to illustrate implementation steps and compare the efficiency of the algorithms, a polymerisation reactor benchmark system is considered. In particular, the described MPC algorithms with on-line linearisation are compared with a truly nonlinear MPC approach with nonlinear optimisation repeated at each sampling instant.

Opis:
This paper presents the design of a neural network based feedback linearization (NNFBL) controller for a two degree-offreedom (DOF), quarter-car, servo-hydraulic vehicle suspension system. The main objective of the direct adaptive NNFBL controller is to improve the system's ride comfort and handling quality. A feedforward, multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network (NN) model that is well suited for control by discrete input-output linearization (NNIOL) is developed using input-output data sets obtained from mathematical model simulation. The NN model is trained using the Levenberg- Marquardt optimization algorithm. The proposed controller is compared with a constant-gain PID controller (based on the Ziegler-Nichols tuning method) during suspension travel setpoint tracking in the presence of deterministic road disturbance. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed direct adaptive NNFBL controller over the generic PID controller in rejecting the deterministic road disturbance. This superior performance is achieved at a much lower control cost within the stipulated constraints.
