    The article German minority in Ukraine. An outline of history is a synthetic work dedicated to the history of German colonization of Ukrainian territories, with special focus on the “Golden Age” of German colonization in southern Ukraine during the reign of Tzarina Catherine II, and the interwar period. The paper presents the population size, distribution, and social structure of German minority, as well as aspects related to the assessment of the assimilation process. The article is based primarily on Ukrainian source compilations and archive materials. It also contains a short description of the current status of German minority in the independent Ukraine.

    The author presents estimations the polish and german scientists and various official estimates of the strength of the German minority, especially the results of the Polish National Census 2002 and 2011. He answers on the leading question: Why decreasing the strength of the German minority in our country? The author has listed and described the most important factors that have influence on the strength of the minority. In the context of this topic he writes about declaring the Silesian nationality by the indigenous population of the Upper Silesia (too the members of the German minority) in the census 2002 and 2011. He writes too about the Silesians organizations that pro-mote Silesianess and strive for acknowledgment of the Silesian nationality and their perception by the Silesians and the German minority organizations and their influence on the strength of the German minority. The author wonders how many will be had the strength of the minority in Poland in the future.

    The Germans of Romania are not a single group, this is only purely geographical notion. They are independent groups: Transylvanian Saxons, Satu Mare Swabians, Banat Swabians, Landler, Zipser, Bukovina Germans, Bessarabia Germans and Dobruja Germans. The largest and oldest group is Transylvanian Saxons. They entered this area in response to the invitation of Hungarian King Geza II. Swabians settlers in Banat colonized the wilderness let behind by the Turks during the reigns of Charles VI, Maria Theresia and Joseph II. In the 19th century German settlers come to Bessarabia from Russia. After the First World War Transylvania, the Bukovina, the Banat, Satu Mare and Bessarabia fell to Romania. ey were a number more than 760 000 Germans in Romania in 1939, in 2011 only 37 000. The existence of German population in Romania is seriously endangered by emigration to Germany a^er 1989.In contemporary Romania the Germans are represented by the FDGR-party (the Democratic Forum of the Germans in Romania), which translates into only a single seat in the parliament. This minority plays a significant role in regional elections, one of example is the town Sibiu with Germans

    National and ethnic minorities strive to preserve and develop their distinct identities. It is done, among other things, through the actions of organizations representing interests of the minorities and through the activity of the media which address and are created for the minorities. These media, such as the press, function in a constantly changing social, political, cultural and technological reality. The minority itself and what it represents, is also an important factor in the development of the press. qe aim of the paper is to present the factors that determine the situation of the German minority press. The analysis took into account internal factors (those connected with the minority) as well as external factors (not connected with the minority). The problem is discussed through the use of two case studies: the weekly magazine “Wochenblatt.pl” issued in Poland and “Der Nordschleswiger” which comes out in Denmark.

    The presented paper is an analysis of the German minority participation in the Polish local government elections. The electoral results have been compiled and discussed together with the activity of the German associations at the local governmental level. The German minority is concentrated in the area of the Opole Silesia and is an important political factor in this region. The Germans regularly gain many seats in the commune, city and county councils, mostly in rural areas in the Western part of the Opole Voievodeship. They are also important faction in the Opole Regional Assembly. Despite the initial controversies and tensions they proved to be a solid host and an open partner for all political forces on the local political scenes. In broader perspective the participation of the German minority in the Polish local government structures is a natural process of the democratic development which is realized in Poland.

    Teaching German as a language of national minority started in Poland in the early 1990s. Over the last twenty years, an increasing number of schools have introduced German as a subject in their curriculum. Here are bilingual classes too, but German is not used as an instructive language on a large scale. He main aim of the article is to analyse the policy of the Polish authorities towards German minority and the situation of German as a language of national minority in the system of education in Poland.

    During the interwar period, Czechoslovakia was the multiethnic state. The most numerous minority in Czechoslovakia were Germans. They presented over 20% of all First Republic population. The majority of this ethnic group inhabited in western part of Germany – they were called “Sudeten Germans”. Carpathian Germans inhabit the fields of Slovakia and Carpathian Ruthenia. They were less numerous, diffuse and less organized. In analyzed period in Slovakia rivaled two biggest German political parties: the Zipser German Party and the Carpathian Germans Party. About influences among local Germans tried also Hungarians. Finally has won the Carpathian Germans Party, around which has come the consolidation of Slovak German. It was subordinated Sudeten Germans Party and realized the interests of the Nazi Germany.

    =e General Jewish Workers Bund of Poland sent memorandum on the position of Jews in occupied Poland in April 1940 to =e Polish Government in France. In sent document Bund mentioned discrimination of Jews in the Second Polish Republic and fact there was plan of support of Jewish emigration to Palestine. It declared active struggle for an independent Poland with the German and Soviet occupiers. It reminded that the Soviet authorities arrested and carried away to the USSR many of the leading activists of the Bund. Advocated concept of socialist and democratic Poland, equality of all citizens and national and cultural rights for ethnic minorities. Bund considered as a utopia Polish and Jewish concepts of building a Jewish state. It demanded Polish government the fight against anti-Semitism in emigration institutions and occupied country, where many Poles took part in German politics of terror against the Jews.
