Opis:
This paper proposes a discretization technique for a descriptor differential system. The methodology used is both triangular first order hold discretization and zero order hold for the input function. Upper bounds for the error between the continuous and the discrete time solution are produced for both discretization methods and are shown to be better than any other existing method in the literature.

Opis:
The article describes the results of the research, purpose of which was to evaluate influence of the temperature on the effectiveness of nitrification and denitrification in the sewage treatment system consisting of vertical flow constructed wetland and polishing pond. During the analysed period, the efficiency of removing total nitrogen was low and amounted to 12.7%. In the polishing pond in the summer period, content of total nitrogen in treated sewages was further decreased by nearly 50%. In the winter period, the polishing pond fulfilled mainly retention role and thus did not improve effectiveness of the whole system. Temperature coefficients, calculated on the basis of single first-order kinetics, for nitrification process in the filter bed (N-NH4+) and denitrification process in the polishing pond (N-NO3-) amounted to 1.039 and 1.089, respectively.

A special description of the boundary variation in a shape optimization problem is investigated. This, together with the use of a potential theory for the state, result in natural embedding of the problem in a Banach space. Therefore, standard differential calculus can be applied in order to prove the Frechet-differentiability of the cost function for appropriately chosen data (sufficiently smooth). Moreover, necessary optimality conditions are obtained in a similar way as in other approaches, and are expressed in terms of an adjoint state for more regular data.

Opis:
Design patterns help us to respond to the challenges faced while developing Distributed Object Computing (DOC) applications by shifting developers' focus to high-level design concerns, rather than platform specific details. However, due to the inherent ambiguity of the existing textual and graphical descriptions of the design patterns, users are faced with difficulties in understanding when and how to use them. Since design patterns are seldom used in isolation but are usually combined to solve complex problems, the above-mentioned difficulties have even worsened. The formal specification of design patterns and their combination is not meant to replace the existing means of describing patterns, but to complement them in order to achieve accuracy and to allow rigorous reasoning about them. The main problem of the existing formal specification languages for design patterns is the lack of completeness. This is mainly because they tend to focus on specifying either the structural or behavioral aspects of design patterns but not both of them. Moreover, none of them even ventured in specifying DOC patterns and pattern combinations. We propose a simple yet Balanced Pattern Specification Language (BPSL) aimed to achieve equilibrium by specifying both the aspects of design patterns. The language combines two subsets of logic: one from the First-Order Logic (FOL) and the other from the Temporal Logic of Actions (TLA).

Opis:
The study of a magneto hydrodynamic (MHD) free convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid flow past a vertical surface is analyzed by taking into account viscous dissipation under the influence of radiation effect and chemical reaction with constant heat and mass fluxes. The governing partial differential equations have been converted into a set of ordinary differential equations using non dimensional quantities. The perturbation technique has been applied to solve the system of partial differential equations. The velocity, temperature and concentration fields have been studied for the effect of the permeability parameter (α), Grashof number for heat transfer (Gr), Grashof number for mass transfer (Gm), Prandtl number (Pr), magnetic parameter (M), chemical reaction parameter (Kr), Schmidt number (Sc), Eckert number (E), radiation parameter (F) etc. The expressions for the skin-friction, rate of heat transfer and rate of mass transfer are also derived. It is observed that when the radiation parameter increases, the velocity increases near the vertical surface. It is also seen that the concentration decreases with an increase in the chemical reaction parameter (Kr).

Opis:
In this paper, the problem of interface wave scattering by bottom undulations in the presence of a thin submerged vertical wall with a gap is investigated. The thin vertical wall with a gap is submerged in a lower fluid of finite depth with bottom undulations and the upper fluid is of infinite height separated by a common interface. In the method of solution, we use a simplified perturbation analysis and suitable applications of Green’s integral theorem in the two fluid regions produce first-order reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape function describing the bottom undulations and solution of the scattering problem involving a submerged vertical wall present in the lower fluid of uniform finite depth. For sinusoidal bottom undulations, the first-order transmission coefficient vanishes identically. The corresponding first-order reflection coefficient is computed numerically by solving the zero-order reflection coefficient and a suitable application of multi-term Galerkin approximations. The numerical results of the zero-order and first-order reflection coefficients are depicted graphically against the wave number in a number of figures. An oscillatory nature is observed of first-order reflection coefficient due to multiple interactions of the incident wave with bottom undulations, the edges of the submerged wall and the interface. The first-order reflection coefficient has a peak value for some particular value of the ratio of the incident wavelength and the bottom wavelength. The presence of the upper fluid has some significant effect on the reflection coefficients.

Opis:
An exact solution of an unsteady flow past a parabolic starting motion of an infinite vertical plate with variable temperature and mass diffusion, in the presence of a homogeneous chemical reaction of first order has been studied. The plate temperature as well as concentration level near the plate are raised linearly with time t. The dimensionless governing equations are solved using the Laplace-transform technique. The effects of velocity profiles are studied for different physical parameters such as the chemical reaction parameter, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number, Schmidt number and time. It is observed that the velocity increases with increasing values of the thermal Grashof number or mass Grashof number. The trend is just reversed with respect to the chemical reaction parameter.
