Opis:
An iterative inversion algorithm for a class of square matrices is derived and tested. The inverted matrix can be defined over both real and complex fields. This algorithm is based only on the operations of addition and multiplication. The numerics of the algorithm can cope with a short number representation and therefore can be very useful in the case of processors with limited possibilities, like different neuro-computers and accelerator cards. The quality of inversion can be traced and tested. The algorithm can be used in the case of singular matrices, and then it automatically produces a result that contains the inverse of this part of the processed matrix which can be inverted. An example of the inversion of a six-order square matrix is presented and discussed.

It is shown that the limit in an abstract version of Szego's limit theorem can be expressed in terms of the antistable dynamics of the system. When the system dynamics are regular, it is shown that the limit equals the difference between the antistable Lyapunov exponents of the system and those of its inverse. In the general case, the elements of the dichotomy spectrum give lower and upper bounds.

The problem of exponential law of steady, incompressible fluid flow in boundary layer and heat transfer are studied in an electrically conducting fluid over a semi-infinite vertical plate assuming the variable thermal conductivity in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. The governing system of equations including the continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation have been transformed into nonlinear coupled ordinary differential equations using appropriate similarity variables. All the numerical and graphical solutions are obtained through the use of Maple software. The solutions are found to be dependent on three dimensionless parameters including the magnetic field parameter M, thermal conductivity parameter and Prandtl number Pr. Representative velocity and temperature profiles are presented at various values of the governing parameters. The skin-friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer are also calculated for different values of the parameters.

In this paper, we have studied a method based on exponential splines for numerical solution of singularly perturbed two parameter boundary value problems. The boundary value problem is solved on a Shishkin mesh by using exponential splines. Numerical results are tabulated for different values of the perturbation parameters. From the numerical results, it is found that the method approximates the exact solution very well.

Effects of transfer of mass and free convection on the flow field of an incompressible viscous fluid past an exponentially accelerated vertical plate with variable surface temperature and mass diffusion are studied. Results for velocity, concentration, temperature are obtained by solving governing equations using the Laplace transform technique. It is observed that the velocity increases with decreasing values of the chemical reaction parameter or radiation parameter. But the trend is just reversed with respect to the time parameter. The skin friction is also studied.

This work introduces a novel approach to stability and stabilization of nonlinear systems with delayed multivariable inputs; it provides exponential estimates as well as a guaranteed cost of the system solutions. The result is based on an exact convex representation of the nonlinear system which allows a Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional to be applied in order to obtain sufficient conditions in the form of linear matrix inequalities. These are efficiently solved via convex optimization techniques. A real-time implementation of the developed approach on the twin rotor MIMO system is included.

This paper is devoted to studying the globally exponential stability of impulsive high-order Hopfield-type neural networks with time-varying delays. In the process of impulsive effect, nonlinear and delayed factors are simultaneously considered. A new impulsive differential inequality is derived based on the Lyapunov–Razumikhin method and some novel stability criteria are then given. These conditions, ensuring the global exponential stability, are simpler and less conservative than some of the previous results. Finally, two numerical examples are given to illustrate the advantages of the obtained results.

This paper deals with the application of a variable structure observer developed for a class of nonlinear systems to solve the trajectory tracking problem for rigid robot manipulators. The analyzed approach to observer design proposes a simple design methodology for systems having completely observable linear parts and bounded nonlinearities and/or uncertainties. This observer is basically the conventional Luenberger observer with an additional switching term that is used to guarantee robustness against modeling errors and system uncertainties. To solve the tracking problem, we use a control law developed for robot manipulators in the full information case. The closed loop system is shown to be globally asymptotically stable based on Lyapunov arguments. Simulation results on a 3-DOF robot manipulator show the asymptotic convergence of the vectors of observation and tracking errors.

This paper considers parameter estimation of superimposed exponential signals in multiplicative and additive noise which are all independent and identically distributed. A modified Newton–Raphson algorithm is used to estimate the frequencies of the considered model, which is further used to estimate other linear parameters. It is proved that the modified Newton–Raphson algorithm is robust and the corresponding estimators of frequencies attain the same convergence rate with Least Squares Estimators (LSEs) under the same noise conditions, but it outperforms LSEs in terms of the mean squared errors. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by some numerical experiments.

Opis:
Accurately modeling claims data and determining appropriate insurance premiums are vital responsibilities for non-life insurance firms. This article presents novel models for claims that offer improved precision in fitting claim data, both in terms of claim frequency and severity. Specifically, we suggest the Poisson-GaL distribution for claim frequency and the exponential-GaL distribution for claim severity. The traditional method of assigning automobile premiums based on a bonus-malus system relies solely on the number of claims made. However, this may lead to unfair outcomes when an insured individual with a minor severity claim is charged the same premium as someone with a severe claim. The second aim of this article is to propose a new model for calculating bonus-malus premiums. Our proposed model takes into account both the number and size of claims, which follow the Poisson-GaL distribution and the exponential-GaL distribution, respectively. To calculate the premiums, we employ the Bayesian approach. Real-world data are used in practical examples to illustrate how the proposed model can be implemented. The results of our analysis indicate that the proposed premium model effectively resolves the issue of overcharging. Moreover, the proposed model produces premiums that are more tailored to policyholders’ claim histories, benefiting both the policyholders and the insurance companies. This advantage can contribute to the growth of the insurance industry and provide a competitive edge in the insurance market.

An exact solution of an unsteady flow past an exponentially accelerated infinite isothermal vertical plate with uniform mass diffusion in the presence of a transverse magnetic field has been studied. The plate temperature is raised to Tw and the species concentration level near the plate is also made to rise Cʹw . The dimensionless governing equations are solved using the Laplace-transform technique. The velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are studied for different physical parameters such as the magnetic field parameter, chemical reaction parameter, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number, Schmidt number, time and a. It is observed that the velocity decreases with increasing the magnetic field parameter.

We analyze stability for switched systems which are composed of both continuous-time and discrete-time subsystems. By considering a Lie algebra generated by all subsystem matrices, we show that if all subsystems are Hurwitz/Schur stable and this Lie algebra is solvable, then there is a common quadratic Lyapunov function for all subsystems and thus the switched system is exponentially stable under arbitrary switching. When not all subsystems are stable and the same Lie algebra is solvable, we show that there is a common quadratic Lyapunov-like function for all subsystems and the switched system is exponentially stable under a dwell time scheme. Two numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the result.

Opis:
In the present paper, a viscoelastic boundary layer flow and heat transfer over an exponentially stretching continuous sheet in the presence of a heat source/sink has been examined. Loss of energy due to viscous dissipation of the non-Newtonian fluid has been taken into account in this study. Approximate analytical local similar solutions of the highly non-linear momentum equation are obtained for velocity distribution by transforming the equation into Riccati-type and then solving this sequentially. Accuracy of the zero-order analytical solutions for the stream function and velocity are verified by numerical solutions obtained by employing the Runge-Kutta fourth order method involving shooting. Similarity solutions of the temperature equation for non-isothermal boundary conditions are obtained in the form of confluent hypergeometric functions. The effect of various physical parameters on the local skin-friction coefficient and heat transfer characteristics are discussed in detail. It is seen that the rate of heat transfer from the stretching sheet to the fluid can be controlled by suitably choosing the values of the Prandtl number Pr and local Eckert number E, local viscioelastic parameter k1 and local heat source/ sink parameter β.

This paper deals with the stability study of the nonlinear Saint-Venant Partial Differential Equation (PDE). The proposed approach is based on the multi-model concept which takes into account some Linear Time Invariant (LTI) models defined around a set of operating points. This method allows describing the dynamics of this nonlinear system in an infinite dimensional space over a wide operating range. A stability analysis of the nonlinear Saint-Venant PDE is proposed both by using Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) and an Internal Model Boundary Control (IMBC) structure. The method is applied both in simulations and real experiments through a microchannel, illustrating thus the theoretical results developed in the paper.
