An analysis is made on a steady flow of an incompressible visco-elastic fluid (of small memory) past a porous plate subject to uniform suction or blowing. The fluid and the plate rotate in unison with uniform angular velocity about an axis perpendicular to the plate. It is shown that for a visco-elastic fluid of small memory, a boundary layer is formed for uniform suction or blowing at the plate. It is found that the primary velocity increases whereas the secondary velocity increases near the plate and decreases away from the plate with an increase in the elastic parameter. The secondary flow shows flow reversal for a large elastic parameter. It is found that both primary and secondary velocities increase near the plate and decrease away from the plate with an increase in the rotation parameter. It is also found that the shear stress due to primary flow increases with an increase in either the elastic parameter or rotation parameter. On the other hand, the shear stress due to secondary flow decreases with an increase in the elastic parameter while it increases with an increase in the rotation parameter. The temperature distribution in the boundary layer is also determined. It is shown that elasticity leads to an increase in heat transfer at the plate.

Opis:
This paper deals with the formulation of a necessary optimality condition for a topology optimization problem for an elastic contact problem with Tresca friction. In the paper a quasistatic contact model is considered, rather than a stationary one used in the literature. The functional approximating the normal contact stress is chosen as the shape functional. The aim of the topology optimization problem considered is to find the optimal material distribution inside a design domain occupied by the body in unilateral contact with the rigid foundation to obtain the optimally shaped domain for which the normal contact stress along the contact boundary is minimized. The volume of the body is assumed to be bounded. Using the material derivative and asymptotic expansion methods as well as the results concerning the differentiability of solutions to quasistatic variational inequalities, the topological derivative of the shape functional is calculated and a necessary optimality condition is formulated.

In this study an eigen value approach has been employed to examine the mechanical force applied along with a transverse magnetic field in a two dimensional generalized magneto micropolar thermoelastic infinite space. Results have been obtained by treating rotational velocity to be invariant. Integral transforms have been applied to solve the system of partial differential equations. Components of displacement, normal stress, tangential couple stress, temperature distribution, electric field and magnetic field have been obtained in the transformed domain. Finally numerical inversion technique has been used to invert the result in the physical domain. Graphical analysis has been done to described the study.

In this work, we explore the possibilities of the widespread Finite Element Model Updating method (FEMU) in order to identify the local elastic mechanical properties in heterogeneous materials. The objective function is defined as a quadratic error of the discrepancy between measured fields and simulated ones. We compare two different formulations of the function, one based on the displacement fields and one based on the strain fields. We use a genetic algorithm in order to minimize these functions. We prove that the strain functional associated with the genetic algorithm is the best combination. We then improve the implementation of the method by parallelizing the algorithm in order to reduce the computation cost. We validate the approach with simulated cases in 2D.

Opis:
Silicon <111> crystal is one of the crystal orientations, which shows potential for application in micro device developments of pressure diaphragms for measurement purposes. To date, no theoretical basis has been examined to develop the deflections for computational analysis purposes [1]. This paper presents the development of the diaphragm deflections for Silicon <111> Crystal in Cylindrical coordinates system. The Silicon <111> crystal possesses transverse isotropic properties. Thus, an anisotropic thin plate theory is used here to develop the plate deflection. A numerical example is given to compare the theoretical results with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) results.

In this analysis, we present a theoretical study to examine the combined effect of both slip velocity and periodic body acceleration on an unsteady generalized non-Newtonian blood flow through a stenosed artery with permeable wall. A constant transverse magnetic field is applied on the peristaltic flow of blood, treating it as an elastico-viscous, electrically conducting and incompressible fluid. Appropriate transformation methods are adopted to solve the unsteady non-Newtonian axially symmetric momentum equation in the cylindrical polar coordinate system with suitably prescribed conditions. To validate the applicability of the proposed analysis, analytical expressions for the axial velocity, fluid acceleration, wall shear stress and volumetric flow rate are computed and for having an adequate insight to blood flow behavior through a stenosed artery, graphs have been plotted with varying values of flow variables, to analyse the influence of the axial velocity, wall shear stress and volumetric flow rate of streaming blood.

Opis:
In the paper a nonlinear model of a lattice-boom crane with lifting capacity up to 700mT for static analysis is presented. The rigid finite element method is used for discretisation of the lattice-boom and the mast. Flexibility of rope systems for vertical movement and for lifting a load is also taken into account. The computer programme developed enables forces and stress as well as displacements of the boom to be calculated. The model is validated by comparison of the authors’ own results with those obtained using professional ROBOT software. Good compatibility of results has been obtained.
