Opis:
The aim of works described in this article is to elaborate and experimentally evaluate a consistent method of Language Model (LM) construction for the sake of Polish speech recognition. In the proposed method we tried to take into account the features and specific problems experienced in practical applications of speech recognition in the Polish language, reach inflection, a loose word order and the tendency for short word deletion. The LM is created in five stages. Each successive stage takes the model prepared at the previous stage and modifies or extends it so as to improve its properties. At the first stage, typical methods of LM smoothing are used to create the initial model. Four most frequently used methods of LM construction are here. At the second stage the model is extended in order to take into account words indirectly co-occurring in the corpus. At the next stage, LM modifications are aimed at reduction of short word deletion errors, which occur frequently in Polish speech recognition. The fourth stage extends the model by insertion of words that were not observed in the corpus. Finally the model is modified so as to assure highly accurate recognition of very important utterances. The performance of the methods applied is tested in four language domains.

Opis:
This paper presents a new approach to robust adaptive control, using fractional order systems as parallel feedforward in the adaptation loop. The problem is that adaptive control systems may diverge when confronted with finite sensor and actuator dynamics, or with parasitic disturbances. One of the classical robust adaptive control solutions to these problems makes use of parallel feedforward and simplified adaptive controllers based on the concept of positive realness. The proposed control scheme is based on the Almost Strictly Positive Realness (ASPR) property of the plant. We show that this condition implies also robust stability in the case of fractional order controllers. An application to Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) with a fractional order adaptation rule is provided with an implementable algorithm. A simulation example of a SISO robust adaptive control system illustrates the advantages of the proposed method in the presence of disturbances and noise.

Opis:
We introduce a novel fractional order adaptive control design based on the tube model reference adaptive control (TMRAC) scheme for a class of fractional order linear systems. By considering an adaptive state feedback control configuration, the main idea is to replace the classical reference model with a single predetermined trajectory by a fractional order performance tube guidance model allowing a set of admissible trajectories. Besides, an optimization problem is formulated to compute an on-line correction control signal within specified bounds in order to update the system performance while minimizing a control cost criterion. The asymptotic stability of the closed loop fractional order control system is demonstrated using an extension of the Lyapunov direct method. The dynamical performance of the fractional order tube model reference adaptive control (FOTMRAC) is compared with the standard fractional order model reference adaptive control (FOMRAC) strategy, and the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

In this paper, we introduce several system theoretic problems brought forward by recent studies on neural models of motor control. We focus our attention on three topics: (i) the cerebellum and adaptive control, (ii) reinforcement learning and the basal ganglia, and (iii) modular control with multiple models. We discuss these subjects from both neuroscience and systems theory viewpoints with the aim of promoting interplay between the two research communities.

Opis:
This paper presents direct model reference adaptive control for a class of nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinearities. The model following conditions are assured by using adaptive neural networks as the nonlinear state feedback controller. Both full state information and observer-based schemes are investigated. All the signals in the closed loop are guaranteed to be bounded and the system state is proven to converge to a small neighborhood of the reference model state. It is also shown that stability conditions can be formulated as linear matrix inequalities (LMI) that can be solved using efficient software algorithms. The control performance of the closed-loop system is guaranteed by suitably choosing the design parameters. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the approach.

Opis:
A constrained adaptive predictive control method that uses uncertain process modelling based on orthonormal series functions is considered. Such unstructured modelling is described as a weighted sum of orthonormal functions using approximate information about the time constant of the process. The orthonormal series functions model can thus be used to derive a j-step-ahead output prediction according to the constrained adaptive predictive control law. In relation to predictive controllers based on structured models, this approach presents the advantage of not requiring prior knowledge of the order or time delay, which decrease prediction errors and lead to a better closed loop performance when these parameters are not well known. Stability issues of the proposed control scheme are discussed and, finally, a simulation example is given to show the performance of the algorithm.

Opis:
Reliability and safety of an electro-hydraulic position servo system (EHPSS) can be greatly reduced for potential sensor and actuator faults. This paper proposes a novel reconfiguration control (RC) scheme that combines multi-model and adaptive control to compensate for the adverse effects. Such a design includes several fixed models, one adaptive model, and one reinitialized adaptive model. Each of the models has its own independent controller that is based on a complete parametrization of the corresponding fault. A proper switching mechanism is set up to select the most appropriate controller to control the current plant. The system output can track the reference model asymptotically using the proposed method. Simulation results validate robustness and effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The main contribution is a reconfiguration control method that can handle component faults and maintain the acceptable performance of the EHPSS.

A new variant of Model Predictive Control and Identification (MPCI) is proposed. The on-line objective is not to minimize the sum of square errors, but to maximize on-line the sum of the lower bounds on the minimum eigenvalues of the information matrices over finite horizons. In that way, inputs to the controlled process are allowed to excite the process highly enough to generate as much modelling information as possible, while the process goes off-spec as little as possible. Constraints can be loosened or tightened according to the need for identification. The effectiveness of the proposed new methodology is illustrated through a number of simulations.

Opis:
We consider the problem of joint estimation of states and some constant parameters for a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems. This class contains systems that could be transformed into a quasi-LPV (linear parameter varying) polytopic model in the Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) form. Such systems could have unmeasured premise variables, a case usually overlooked in the observer design literature. We assert that, for such systems in discrete-time, the current literature lacks design strategies for joint state and parameter estimation. To this end, we adapt the existing literature on continuous-time linear systems for joint state and time-varying parameter estimation. We first develop the discrete-time version of this result for linear systems. A Lyapunov approach is used to illustrate stability, and bounds for the estimation error are obtained via the bounded real lemma. We use this result to achieve our objective for a design procedure for a class of nonlinear systems with constant parameters. This results in less conservative conditions and a simplified design procedure. A basic waste water treatment plant simulation example is discussed to illustrate the design procedure.
