Opis:
Due to the versatility as well as its ease of implementation, the Fast Transversal Filters algorithm is attractive for many adaptive filtering applications. However, it is not widely used because of its undesirable tendency to diverge when operating in finite precision arithmetic. To compensate, modifications to the algorithm have been introduced that are either occasional (performed when a predefined condition(s) is violated) or structured as part of the normal update iteration. However, in neither case is any confidence explicitly given that the computed parameters are in fact close to the desired ones. Here, we introduce a time invariant parameter that provides the user with more flexibility in establishing confidence in the consistency of the updated filter parameters. Additionally, we provide evidence through the introduction of a hybrid FTF algorithm that when sufficient time is given prior to catastrophic divergence, the update parameters of the FTF algorithm can be adjusted so that consistency can be acquired and maintained.

In this paper we examine the stability of an irrigation canal system. The system considered is a single reach of an irrigation canal which is derived from Saint-Venant's equations. It is modelled as a system of nonlinear partial differential equations which is then linearized. The linearized system consists of hyperbolic partial differential equations. Both the control and observation operators are unbounded but admissible. From the theory of symmetric hyperbolic systems, we derive the exponential (or internal) stability of the semigroup underlying the system. Next, we compute explicitly the transfer functions of the system and we show that the input-output (or external) stability holds. Finally, we prove that the system is regular in the sense of (Weiss, 1994) and give various properties related to its transfer functions.

In the paper the problem of practical stability of linear positive discrete-time systems of fractional order is addressed. New simple necessary and sufficient conditions for practical stability and for practical stability independent of the length of practical implementation are established. It is shown that practical stability of the system is equivalent to asymptotic stability of the corresponding standard positive discrete-time systems of the same order. The discussion is illustrated with numerical examples.

In this paper, we present a vaccination model with multiple transmission ways and derive the control reproduction number. The stability analysis of both the disease-free and endemic equilibria is carried out, and bifurcation theory is applied to explore a variety of dynamics of this model. In addition, we present numerical simulations to verify the model predictions. Mathematical results suggest that vaccination is helpful for disease control by decreasing the control reproduction number below unity.

The aim of this paper is to present some approaches to tumour growth modelling using the logistic equation. As the first approach the well-known ordinary differential equation is used to model the EAT in mice. For the same kind of tumour, a logistic equation with time delay is also used. As the second approach, a logistic equation with diffusion is proposed. In this case a delay argument in the reaction term is also considered. Some mathematical properties of the presented models are studied in the paper. The results are illustrated using computer simulations.

Linear stationary dynamical systems with multiple constant delays in the state are studied. Their relative and approximate controllability properties with constrained controls are discussed. Definitions of various types of controllability with constrained controls for systems with delays in the state are introduced. Some theorems concerning the relative and the approximate relative controllability with constrained controls for dynamical systems with delays in the state are established. Various types of constraints are considered. Numerical examples illustrate the theoretical analysis. An example of a real technical dynamical system is given to indicate one of possible practical applications of the theoretical results.

Opis:
Due to the significant role and noticeable development of transportation routes running from the north to the south of central Europe, several problems related to the construction and functioning of roads in the Carpathian foothills have been revealed. Recent climate change causes areas, where transport routes are particularly exposed to hazards, to succumb to technical exploitation and degradation. The elimination of the threats related to the activation of landslide phenomena becomes particularly expensive. Old roads, which were once designed for significantly lower axle loads and less heavy traffic conditions, are predominantly exposed. At the present, these roads are heavily exploited and have become overloaded. As a result, both the roadway and the subgrade undergo damage, which causes an increase in dynamic loads, and in potentially endangered areas, the activation of landslides. Landslides in the Carpathian flysch have a peculiar susceptibility to activation due to its geological structure. This paper addresses the problem of monitoring and analysing the effects of a landslide associated with the operation of a transportation route running through the slope of the Carpathian flysch. The studies include both field work and laboratory testing of basic geotechnical parameters. The parameters obtained during the geotechnical investigations, conducted for the purpose of building a numerical model, have been completed. The field work includes surveys made by a terrestrial laser scanner. The study also includes a number of 2D and 3D numerical models. These models, along with the substrate parameters, have been introduced into the FEA package and then calibrated. Subsequently, an analysis of the effects of landslide susceptibility and the behaviour of the road and terrain surface, due to the different variants of the loads, is shown along with the results of surveys.
Prace terenowe uzupełniały pomiary geodezyjne wykonane skanerem laserowym. Zbudowano również szereg modeli numerycznych 2D i 3D. Modele te, wraz z przebadanymi parametrami podłoża zostały wprowadzone do pakietu MES, a następnie skalibrowane. W dalszej kolejności dokonano analizy skutków zagrożenia osuwiskowego i zachowania się drogi oraz podłoża przy różnych wariantach obciążeń oraz pokazano wyniki obserwacji geodezyjnych.

In iterative learning control (ILC) and in repetitive control (RC) one is interested in convergence to zero tracking error as the repetitions of the command or the periods in the command progress. A condition based on steady state frequency response modeling is often used, but it does not represent the true stability boundary for convergence. In this paper we show how this useful condition differs from the true stability boundary in ILC and RC, and show that in applications of RC the distinction between these conditions is of no practical significance. In ILC satisfying this frequency condition is important for good learning transients, even though the true stability boundary is very different.

In this paper, a standard predictive control problem (SPCP) is formulated, which consists of one extended process description with a feedback uncertainty block. The most important finite horizon predictive control problems can be seen as special realizations of this SPCP. The SPCP and its solution are given in a state-space form. The objective of the controller is a nominal performance subject to signal constraints and robust stability with respect to a 1-norm bounded model uncertainty. The optimal controller consists of a feedforward part for nominal signal tracking and a feedback part for disturbance rejection and model error compensation. The feedforward part is realized by the predictive controller for the nominal disturbance-free case. The feedback part of the controller is realized by using the Youla parametrization. The Youla parameter is optimized at every sample time in a receding horizon setting to cope with signal constraints and (robust stability) constraints on the operator itself.

Tumour immunotherapy is aimed at the stimulation of the otherwise inactive immune system to remove, or at least to restrict, the growth of the original tumour and its metastases. The tumour-immune system interactions involve the stimulation of the immune response by tumour antigens, but also the tumour induced death of lymphocytes. A system of two non-linear ordinary differential equations was used to describe the dynamic process of interaction between the immune system and the tumour. Three different types of stimulation functions were considered: (a) Lotka-Volterra interactions, (b) switching functions dependent on the tumour size in the Michaelis-Menten form, and (c) Michaelis-Menten switching functions dependent on the ratio of the tumour size to the immune capacity. The linear analysis of equilibrium points yielded several different types of asymptotic behaviour of the system: unrestricted tumour growth, elimination of tumour or stabilization of the tumour size if the initial tumour size is relatively small, otherwise unrestricted tumour growth, global stabilization of the tumour size, and global elimination of the tumour. Models with switching functions dependent on the tumour size and the tumour to the immune capacity ratio exhibited qualitatively similar asymptotic behaviour.

A Timoshenko system of a fractional order between zero and one is investigated here. Using a fractional version of resolvents, we establish an existence and uniqueness theorem in an appropriate space. Moreover, it is proved that lower order fractional terms (in the rotation component) are capable of stabilizing the system in a Mittag-Leffler fashion. Therefore, they deserve to be called damping terms. This is shown through the introduction of some new functionals and some fractional inequalities, and the establishment of some properties, involving fractional derivatives. In the case of different wave speeds of propagation we obtain convergence to zero.

Our aim is to study periodic solutions of the modified van der Pol equation and take into consideration the influence of feedback and delay which occur in the normal heart action mode as well as in pathological modes. Usage of certain values for feedback and delay parameters allows simulating the heart action when an accessory conducting pathway is present (Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome).
