Opis:
This work presents the factors determining cast iron, and particularly austenitic high-alloy cast iron as a construction material, which is ranked among the leading casting alloys of iron with carbon, mainly due to its very good service properties, which makes it dedicated as a material for automotive castings, pipe and fitting castings and components resistant to elevated temperatures, corrosion and abrasive wear. Construction materials currently used in industry have increasingly better properties and their potential is depleting quickly. This forces the manufacturers to adjust the requirements and production capabilities of cast iron using the most modern technologies that give the expected beneficial economic and operating effects. The paper quotes the results of research in the field of the offered technologies that give special surface features to machine parts made of cast iron by modernising the parameters of the technological process of obtaining high-alloy austenitic cast iron, i.e., by applying coatings, as well as by appropriate surface treatment, the aim of which is and reinforce the material surface with those properties which are important in a given application.

Opis:
In this paper, the possibility of increasing powder carbon steels properties by activation of carbon diffusion into the iron base during sintering process due to the introduction of the thermally split graphite (TSG), macromolecular compounds (MC) and sodium bicarbonate was investigated. It was found that the introduction of these additives allows obtaining homogeneous structures at a sintering temperature of 100–200 °C lower than that traditionally used for sintering of powder carbon steels. Such structures provide increased mechanical properties of powder carbon steels. The addition ofsodium bicarbonate increases the diffusion rate of carbon into iron at a temperature of 950 C by 1.8 times, at 1000 °C by 1.5 times, and at 1100 °C by 1.2 times.

Opis:
The operational dams in Algeria lose 32 million m 3 of water storage capacity each year, and fifteen of these dams are threatened by siltation. This investigation forms a component of a management strategy for dredged silt in the Gargar Dam, the third-largest dam in Algeria with considerable sedimentation. This paper comprises two main axes: a detailed experimental study based on the studied dam mud's physico-chemical, rheological, and mechanical analysis. The second part is based on the study of the valorization of Gargar mud to be acceptable for use in road civil engineering. In order to obtain this goal, the Gargar mud was treated with lime (0-6%), sand (20%), and natural pozzolana (20%). Test results show that the properties of Gargar mud are significantly improved after treatment, and the soil becomes more friable and more resistant; it can therefore be used as a foundation layer in road civil engineering.

Based upon a Gecim-Winer fluid flow model, a curvilinear squeeze film bearing is considered. The equations of motion are given in a specific coordinates system. After general considerations on the Gecim-Winer fluid flow these equations are used to derive the Reynolds equation. The solution of this equation is obtained by a method of successive approximation. As a result one obtains formulae expressing the pressure distribution and load-carrying capacity. The numerical examples of the Gecim-Winer fluid flow in gaps of two simple bearings: radial and spherical are presented.

Opis:
In this paper, a multilobe conical bearing is analyzed. A lubricant modelled by a couple stress fluid flows In the bearing clearance . The Galerkin method is used to determine the mechanical parameters of multilobe journal bearings. An example of a two-lobe conical bearing is discussed in detail. The inertia of the flowing lubricant is taken into account in the analysis. It has been found that the increase of the couple stress generates an increase the pressure in the clearance.

In the present paper, the effect of alumina and zirconia microadditives on the compressive strength and flexural strength of sintered Fe-based powder materials is shown. It was found that intercrystalline fractures, both plastic and brittle, are observed when bending. During compression, fractures are observed too, as well as flaking of thin nearsurface layers. The intensity of such flaking depends on the composition of the sintered material. Strength parameters of the materials studied also depend on additives composition and quantity. The lowest parameters are observed for a material that contains 1% alumina particulates. The compressive strength of a material containing zirconia particulates increases 3 times and the flexural strength 2 times.
