Opis:
In this research work, the finite element software, ABAQUS is used to study by simulations the influence of form defect on mechanical behavior of a shrink-fitted assembly presenting internal radial cracks. Under the action of contact pressure induced by the tightening between two cylinders, these cracks resulting from incorrect assembly operations or materials elaboration defect, can be harmful to the assembly. Various simulations were carried out in two modeling cases, taking into account the geometric parameters of defect (amplitude Df), of cylinders (thickness t) and of cracks (length a, ratio a/t). Another important parameter such as the tightening was also considered in the modeling. The first modeling relates to the case with defect, external cylinder presents an oval (elliptical) form defect and internal radial cracks. The other concerns the perfect equivalent case (without form defect). The comparison of results obtained by two models shows that form defect modifies the uniformity of equivalent stresses distribution in cylinders and increases the value of stress intensity factor (SIF) KI in cracks. Defect amplitude and tightening significantly influence the value of equivalent stress and that of stress intensity factor (SIF) KI.

Opis:
Concerned about the environmental and economic impact, composite materials are increasingly used in the construction sector. Indeed, the use of plant fibers as reinforcement in construction materials have been the subject of several researches in recent years; the main motivation is the weight gain combined with high mechanical characteristics. The objective of this research concerns the study of the physicomechanical properties of composite materials with cement and clay matrices reinforced with Alfa and Diss fibers with dimensions ranging from 2 to 8 cm. This involves evaluating the performance of these materials according to the formulation, for a volume ratio (Alfa or Diss / Matrix fibers equal to 4), using dry fibers and pre-wetted fibers. The study of the mechanical properties showed a drop of the performance for both compression and bending strength compared to the reference material without adding fibers (cement or clay paste). It should be noted that the best mechanical performance is obtained for the case of composites materials with cementitious matrix with pre-wetted fibers. On the other hand, in the case of composites with clayey matrices, pre-wetting does not improve the mechanical characteristics. It is also noted that the best dimensions of fibers which improve the mechanical characteristics in bending are generally 6 cm for composites with a clay matrix and between 2 and 4 cm for cementitious composites. In all cases, the fibers in composite materials with cement or clay matrix create a bridging effect, making it possible to limit the progression of cracks during loading. This phenomenon gives to the various composite materials a ductile behavior.

Opis:
Retrofit and structural design with vibration control devices have been proven repeatedly to be feasible seismic hazard mitigation approach. To control the structural response; supplemental energy dissipation devices have been most commonly used for energy absorption. The passive control system has been successfully incorporated in mid to high rise buildings as an appropriate energy absorbing system to suppress seismic and wind-induced excitation. The considerable theses that are highlighted include vibration control devices, the dynamic behavior of devices; energy dissipation mechanism, devices installation approach and building guidelines for structural analysis and design employing vibration control devices also, design concern that is specific to building with vibration control devices. The following four types of supplemental damping devices have been investigated in this review: metallic devices, friction devices, viscous fluid devices, and viscoelastic devices. Although numerous devices installation techniques available, more precisely, devices installation approaches have been reviewed in this paper, including Analysis and Redesign approach (Lavan A/R), standard placement approach, simplified sequential search algorithm, and Takewaki approach.

Opis:
In this paper, a cold multi-pass extrusion process for a 15mm in diameter solid 2024-T3 aluminum alloy rod was carried out using three dies to obtain three different diameters of 14mm, 13mm, and 12mm. The microstructure, hardness, and corrosion behavior were investigated before and after the extrusion process. Load-Displacement data were recorded during each extrusion process. The electrochemical corrosion test was made in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution using potentiostat instrument under static potentials test. Corrosion current was recorded to determine the corrosion rate for specimens. The results showed that the extrusion load increased with the number of extrusion passes, which is also seen in hardness test results. In addition, the corrosion rate decreased with the increase in the number of extrusion passes. This is due to severe plastic deformation, which generates a fine grain structure of (AlCu) and (AlCuMg) components.

Opis:
In the paper, the changes in some mechanical properties and wear behavior of CuSn10 sintered bronze and MMCs based on this bronze reinforced with composite ultrafine aluminide powders FeAl/15 % Al2O3, NiAl/15 % Al2O3 and Ti-46Al-8Cr are described. It was observed that the presence of aluminides in the MMCs leads to an increase in the hardness, but the flexural strength may increase or decrease depending on the type of aluminide. The presence of aluminides in the MMC reduces the wear rate considerably. It is decreased in the direction of FeAl/15 % Al2O3 → NiAl/15 % Al2O3 → Ti-46Al-8Cr aluminides and for the best MMC composition the advantage is about 20 times. In the MMCs wear process, micro-craters are formed on the contact surface and it is the principal reason of a decrease in the wear rate.
