Opis:
Regularity in musical structure is experienced as a strongly structured texture with repeated and periodic patterns, with the musical ideas presented in an appreciable shape to the human mind. We recently showed that manipulation of musical content (i.e., deviation of musical structure) affects the perception of music. These deviations were detected by musical experts, and the musical pieces containing them were labelled as irregular. In this study, we replace the human expert involved in detection of (ir)regularity with artificial intelligence algorithms. We evaluated eight variables measuring entropy and information content, which can be analysed for each musical piece using the computational model called Information Dynamics of Music and different viewpoints. The algorithm was tested using 160 musical excerpts. A preliminary statistical analysis indicated that three of the eight variables were significant predictors of regularity (E_cpitch, IC_cpintfref, and E_cpintfref). Additionally, we observed linear separation between regular and irregular excerpts; therefore, we employed support vector machine and artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms with a linear kernel and a linear activation function, respectively, to predict regularity. The final algorithms were capable of predicting regularity with an accuracy ranging from 89% for the ANN algorithm using only the most significant predictor to 100% for the ANN algorithm using all eight prediction variables.

Opis:
A fault diagnosis scheme for unknown nonlinear dynamic systems with modules of residual generation and residual evaluation is considered. Main emphasis is placed upon designing a bank of neural networks with dynamic neurons that model a system diagnosed at normal and faulty operating points. To improve the quality of neural modelling, two optimization problems are included in the construction of such dynamic networks: searching for an optimal network architecture and the network training algorithm. To find a good solution, the effective well-known cascade-correlation algorithm is adapted here. The residuals generated by a bank of neural models are then evaluated by means of pattern classification. To illustrate the effectiveness of our approach, two applications are presented: a neural model of Narendra's system and a fault detection and identification system for the two-tank process.

Opis:
Different types of niching can be used in genetic algorithms (GAs) or evolutionary computations (ECs) to sustain the diversity of the sought optimal solutions and to increase the effectiveness of evolutionary multi-objective optimization solvers. In this paper four schemes of niching are proposed, which are also considered in two versions with respect to the method of invoking: a continuous realization and a periodic one. The characteristics of these mechanisms are discussed, while as their performance and effectiveness are analyzed by considering exemplary multi-objective optimization tasks both of a synthetic and an engineering (FDI) design nature.

Opis:
A multi-objective Pareto-optimisation procedure for the design of residual generators which constitute a primary instrument for model-based fault detection and isolation (FDI) in systems of plant monitoring and control is considered. An evolutionary approach to the underlying multi-objective optimisation problem is utilised. The resulting robust observer detector allows for FDI, taking into account the issue of false alarms.
