Opis:: The origin of the mother of the Iranian šāhānšāh Wahrām V (420-438), son and successor of Yazdgird I (399-420), is, in scholar literature, treated marginally. The literary source which mentions Wahrām’s Jewish maternal background is the Šahrestānīhā ī Ērānšahr (‘The Provincial Capitals of Ērānšahr’). These considerations are an attempt to ‘recover the memory' of Šīšīnduxt, the Jewish women at the Iranian court, by methodical re-analyzing of the historical texts.

Opis:: The article presents Ashdod and Ashkelon, two harbor cities from the Herodian period (37 BCE–70 CE), located on the south Levantine’s coast. The topic is depicted using the examples of the imported fine and utilitarian wares dated to Early Roman, in specific Herodian, period. Ashdod and Ashkelon were cities located nearby, with very similar history up to the Hellenistic period. After this time their similarities disappeared and the importance in the region changed. This issue is well presented in the pottery assemblage and imports from the whole Mediterranean world.

Opis:: Many ancient writers have written about feeding the Roman army, including Vegetius, Appian, Cassius Dio, Tacitus and Suetonius. Archaeological sources provide interesting data about army provisioning, food supply, the soldier's diet, but also the consequences of eating certain types of foods. Analyzing the remains of consumption and waste, we can reconstruct the diet of soldiers in various corners of the empire and look at their everyday life "from the kitchen". This contribution is an attempt at an introduction on the nature of literary and archaeological sources concerning the food supply and diet of soldiers stationed in several selected places in the empire.
