Opis:: This paper presents the data obtained by means of a survey conducted in 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 among first year students of Applied Linguistics at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. The survey enabled to gather information about students’ actual knowledge about translation. The data has helped to continue research on sight translation and to devise how to successfully develop students’ theoretical and practical knowledge about translation during sight translation classes.

Opis:: The following article describes a project that relates to the developing of translation competence between German and Polish languages. The project was conducted at the University of Gdańsk among students of Applied Linguistics with the translation specialization. The used method was academic tutoring as a personalized way of recognizing student’s potential and needs in the field of translation and the most efficient opportunity to correct student’s translated texts. The second aim of the project was to investigate the role of tandem work and this impact of the translation competence developing process.
