Opis:
Rainfalls, topographic features, type of soil and catchment management are main factors that affect the amount of soil denudation. The studies aimed to evaluate the intensity of water erosion during rainfalls as well as to assess the changes in shape of the flow line crossing ground dykes in the eroded agricultural catchment in Olszanka on Lublin Upland. Studies were carried out within loess catchment under arabie and orchards use in the years 2001-2004. After intensive rainfalls the quanti ty of erosion damages was assessed on a base of recorded erosion and deposition. The studies confirmed the influence of land use on the course of water erosion processes. High efficiency of ground dykes in retention of the eroded soil material was proved. In autumns of 2002, 2003 and 2004 the longitudinal sections of main flow line were analyzed. The amount of alluvial deposits in the valley bottom depended on erosion intensity, slope of flow line and catchment management. While in the upper part of flow line (above ground dyke 6) the increase of alluvial thickness was relatively small, the lower part characterized rather thick layer of acumulated soil material (25 cm).

Opis:
The aim of work was comparison of two water balance models with different degree of complexity to predict soil moisture in small hilly loess catchment and to compare results of the modeling with field measurement done with TOR probes. In the first "bucket" model soil is treated as a tank for water with definite capacity, in the second more sophisticatcd model elaborated in the FEFLOW software, soil properties are described by retention curve and soil moisture pattern is obtained as a solution of Richards equation. In both models actual evapotranspiration is modeled by FAO56 method. The results obtained from both models were acceptable with similar determination coefficient of about 0,8. However, simulation of soil moisture with the FEFLOW model is more accurate although it requires more parameters and seeking for stable numerical solution. On the other hand it is also more suitable to use in hilly terrain where horizontal soil water fluxes must be taken into account.

Opis:
The study aimed at evaluating the changes occurred in loess soils of Opatówka river catchment (Sandomierska Upland) due to surface water erosion and long-term agricultural performance. The survey was conducted in two micro-catchments on three cross-section transcets. Soil pits and bores were made, and soil samples to laboratory examinations were collected to determine the soil type, soil texture, and general soil features. The survey confirmed occurring erosion processes. It was found that lessive soils eroded in part were present in majority of top sections and over 15% inclined slopes. They were characterized by a shortened soil profile of Ap - Bt - CCa confirmation. Slopes cultivated along the hillsides of over 15% inclination (S, W, and SW exposure) and domed tops are strongly threatened by erosion, which results in para-rendzinas of ApCa – Cca conformation. These soils contained elevated quantities of dust fraction in relation to loam. Also greater thickness of plough-humus level of soils from the slope bottoms (including valley bottoms) as compared to those from higher levels, was recorded. They were deluvial soils characterized in general by very poor permeability. The survey revealed differences in organic matter contents at various land sculpture elements. The largest amounts of humus were found in tops and at the slope bottoms. The study also indicated that lessive soils dominating in the soils of examined area, were very vulnerable to water erosion at lack of protective means (mainly an appropriate anti-erosion agrotechnics).
