    This essay approaches the concept of diaspora within the context of transnationalism and border crossing. Then it compares the diasporas from the His-panic Caribbean islands (Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico), tracing a brief demographic profile and describing their economic significance for the sending coun-tries. Later on, the author proposes that the migrants‘ ties with their countries of origin depend substantially on the interaction between sending and receiving governments. Above all, he assesses the long-term repercussions of the legal status of Cubans, Do-minicans, and Puerto Ricans in the United States, as well as in Puerto Rico, a second-ary destination for Cuban and Dominican migrants.
    Este ensayo aborda el concepto de la diáspora en el contexto del transnacionalismo y el cruce de fronteras. Luego compara las diásporas de las Antillas hispánicas (Cuba, República Dominicana y Puerto Rico), trazando un breve perfil demográfico y describiendo su trascendencia económica para los países emisores. Más adelante, el autor propone que los lazos de los migrantes con sus países de origen dependen sustancialmente de la interacción entre gobiernos emisores y receptores. Sobre todo, se evalúan las repercusiones a largo plazo de la condición jurídica de cu-banos, dominicanos y puertorriqueños en Estados Unidos, así como en Puerto Rico, un destino secundario para emigrados cubanos y dominicanos.

    The religious diversity of Latin America is a phenomenon that has gathered the attention of researchers from different fields. Along with the expressions of belief and feeling related to Catholics and Protestants, who are still the majority, there are diverse religious practices, in this article we will focus on the analysis of practices and beliefs arising from the Afro-descendant presence in the continent in general as well as in the region known as the Triple Frontier, in a particular way. The strong socio-cultural interrelationships feedback on the intense flow of people and material/symbolic goods, complexing religious matrices, reframing beliefs and resisting colonial violence. Our reflection is based on long fieldwork at the border towns Ciudad del Este (Paraguay), Puerto Iguaçu (Argentina) and Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil), with an ethnographic approach, documents, and bibliographic review. In this direction, this article seeks to discuss the way in which Afro-descendants have been organized and maintained in this dynamic and multiform religious scenario. Throughout this path, our intention is to characterize the specificities of the different manifestations of belief/devotion/practices of/in the region originating or re-signified by the African diaspora on the continent, at the same time that we will seek to configure the socio-historical context of the emergence of the referred religious groups. And we expect to have, in the end, an ethnographic and analytical picture of the religious effects of the African presence on the south of the Latin American continent.
    La diversidad religiosa de América Latina es un fenómeno que viene ganando atención de investigadores de diferentes áreas. Al lado de las expresiones del creer y del sentir relacionadas a católicos y evangélicos, aún mayoritarios, figuran diversificadas prácticas religiosas, en este artículo privilegiamos el análisis de las prácticas y creencias oriundas de la presencia afrodescendiente en el continente de manera general y en la región conocida como Triple Frontera, de manera particular. Las fuertes interrelaciones socioculturales se retroalimentan del flujo intenso de personas y bienes materiales/simbólicos, volviendo aún más complejos los matices religiosos, resignificando creencias y resistiendo a la violencia colonial. Nuestra reflexión está sostenida en un largo trabajo de campo, de naturaleza etnográfica, documentos y revisión bibliográfica. En esta dirección, este artículo busca discutir el modo como los afrodescendientes vienen organizándose y manteniéndose en ese escenario religioso dinámico y multiforme. A lo largo de esa trayectoria pretendemos caracterizar las especificidades de las distintas manifestaciones de creencia/devoción/prácticas de la/en la región oriundas o resignificadas por la diáspora africana en el continente, simultáneamente, se buscará configurar el contexto sociohistórico de surgimiento de los referidos grupos religiosos. Al fin, se espera que esté disponible un cuadro tanto etnográfico como analítico de los efectos religiosos de la presencia africana en el continente.

    Artykuł prezentuje stadia konstruowania mapy mentalnej twórców literatury izraelskiej. Pierwszy etap tego procesu wyznaczają pisarze-pionierzy wielkiej narracji syjonistycznej od pokolenia Avrahama Mapu do rówieśników Szmuela Josefa Agnona. Usiłowali oni stworzyć filozofię starej-nowej przestrzeni narodowej (altneuland) oraz wykreować zamieszkującego ją starego-nowego człowieka (altneumann). Drugi etap związany jest z dokonaniami pisarskimi tzw. pierwszych Izraelczyków, czyli pokolenia Amosa Oza. W perspektywie tych autorów miejsce Izraela jako ziemi ostatecznej realizacji suwerennych pragnień narodowych zostaje zastąpione „innymi miejscami” – jak proponował Oz w tytule swojej pierwszej powieści z 1966 r. – usytuowanym gdzieś w nowej-starej przestrzeni Europy. Ostatni etap to twórczość pokolenia Eshkola Nevo, które projektuje miejsca alternatywne, nienaznaczone piętnem przemocy. Autor dowodzi, że podważenie statusu ziemi Izraela jako „miejsca” stworzyło swoistą próżnię w wyobraźni narodowej, przez pewien czas częściowo wypełnioną przez Europę. Na początku lat osiemdziesiątych XX w. pozycja ziemi Izraela jako „miejsca” i pozycja Europy jako „alternatywnego miejsca” zaczęła być jednak zastępowana przestrzeniami do tej pory marginalizowanymi. Jedną z nich była Ameryka Południowa, które zaczęła zajmować coraz ważniejsze miejsce na mapie mentalnej Izraelczyków.

    The primary goal of the study is to assess the perception of self and the social environment in Polish teenagers from the so-called generation 1.5 in Germany, that is, people who moved to Germany as children and adolescents, accompanying adult immigrants. The secondary goal was to compare this group with teenagers of Polish origin born and socialised in Germany. The instruments of corpus linguistics such as listing of keywords and limited keyword-based contextual analysis were applied to analyse a corpus of 37 essays by respondents aged 13–17 and attending courses of the Polish language and culture in Regensburg and Munich, on the topic “German school, Polish home. People, cultures, languages and the role of Polish in my life.” A considerable difference occurred between both groups. Teenagers from Poland cast their essays in a narrative form reporting the process of immigration, their daily struggle for social adaptation, and their hopes for future improvement. The reports exposed tension and struggle caused by the difficulty to reach the intended goals, such as adequate school achievement, social acceptance and maintenance of bonds with Poland. Teenagers born in Germany cast their reports prevailingly in a static or iterative form, viewing themselves as exceptional in a positive sense, and took pride in their bilingualism and biculturalism. The analysis also revealed different roles played by attending the Polish classes in both groups.

    La larga dictadura de Alfredo Stroessner (1954-1989) generó un éxodo sostenido de paraguayos que huyeron de su país y se sumaron a las comunidades de la diáspora ya existentes desde el siglo XIX, particularmente en la Argentina. Este artículo, basado en parte en una investigación sobre exilio, diáspora y retorno en el Cono Sur que incluye el caso paraguayo y que publicará Eudeba, la Editorial Universitaria de Buenos Aires, intenta aproximarse al tema del exilio masivo de paraguayos y su retorno selectivo. En las páginas siguientes, enfocaremos el proceso de desplazamiento masivo fuera del territorio nacional, su radicación principalmente en los países limítrofes, la movilización de la diáspora paraguaya y cerraremos con un análisis del proceso parcial de retorno. Tal desplazamiento refleja la amplia exclusión de sectores políticos y sociales que generaba el régimen autoritario, ya fuere una exclusión predominantemente socioeconómica, como en el caso de los migrantes, o bien político-institucional, como en el caso de los deportados y fugitivos que partían al exilio. Nuestro análisis se basa en forma especial en entrevistas llevadas a cabo por los autores en Paraguay entre 2010-2012, cuyos testimonios permiten evaluar las perspectivas del desexilio y el impacto de los retornados, antes y después del fin de la dictadura.  
    This article analyzes the process of massive displacement of Paraguayans outside the national territory, their settlement mainly in the neighboring countries, the mobilization of the diaspora, and the partial process of return. Recognizing its roots in the nineteenth century, it focuses analysis on the waves of forced displacement and migration generated under during the authoritarian regime of General Alfredo Stroessner (1954-1989), which reflected the exclusion of wide political and social sectors. The analysis integrates the testimonies of key political and cultural figures who experienced exile, based on interviews carried out by the authors in Paraguay between 2010-2012, bringing up former migrants and exiles’ perspectives on the experiences of exile and return before and after the end of the dictatorship.

    This paper explores the meaning of identity and nation, home and belonging, through the study of internal and international migration in three novels. In doing so it encoun- ters the construction of collective identity in Manzu Islam’s Song of our Swampland, the dystopian dislocation in Neamat Imam’s The Black Coat and the concept of meta-home in Tahmima Anam’s The Bones of Grace. The complex, unstable space of diaspora seems ever evolving and forever shifting. Here ‘home’ becomes what Homi K. Bhabha has ex- pounded as “a mythic place of desire.” In this fluid construction of diasporic existence the paper examines the concepts of “de-territorialization,” “unhoming,” “dislocation,” “iden- tity,” and “belonging.”

    The paper’s author shows his review of a book about Vasyl Bidnov who was one of talented scientists. He was a historian and an activist of ’Prosvita’ („Enlightenment”). Due to the fall of the Ukrainian People’s Republic this personality emigrated to Czechoslovakia, where he has a strong connection with Ukrainian Free University in Prague. The work „The righteous soul. Vasyl Bidnov in the memoirs of contemporaries” (‘Pravedna dusha. Vasyl Bidnov u spohadakh suchasnykiv’) includes the introduction, which informs about the biography of this personality. Then there are presented memoirs about him collected from well-known sociopolitical and scientific activists-emigrants. An essential part has appendices from documents that refer to Bidnov. The article concludes that the readers received a high-value book of memoirs about this important personality of the scientific and socio-political life of Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century.

    The article analyses the analytical publications of the editor of the monthly ”Novi Dni” (Toronto) Petro Volyak during the years 1950–1951, with a particular focus on the ideological aspect. It analyses the actual social and political issues of the articles, reviews and a commentary related to the events in the Soviet Union and Canada. It demonstrates how Petro Volyak comprehended literary and artistic problems in relation to the ideological aspect. It is concluded that the publicist used research methods such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, and generalization. It was found that the ideological aspect in Petro Volyak’s analytical publications was realized with the help of the analysis of social facts and phenomena, press review, historical tours, elements of journalism investigation and forecasting. A signifi cant role of personal experience of the author is emphasized.
