Opis:
The article looks at the history of childhood in the society, the country of Germany, and abroad. Today’s view of children as legal persons, recognizing their endowment with competencies and resources but also their ontological dependence, is a rather ‘new’ perspective in human history. Therefore the article first focuses onto the UN-Child-Right’s-Convention which was ratified in Germany in 1992. Second, a closer look at the development of the legal foundations of child protection in Germany shows how child protection in Germany was developed. The reader will get an overview about the child protection system in Germany, afterwards. The article ends with some recommendations to establish a child-rights-focused perspective in the child protection system in Germany.

Opis:
Lonely childhood constitutes one of the forms of children’s existence, bringing pain and suffering, which are caused by unfavourable situations and environmental conditions, mainly family-related, towards which a child is helpless, defenceless, and which lead to weakening or breaking the emotional bond between the child, parents, siblings or other family members and which always result in the child feeling lonely. The article is an attempt at a diagnosis of the situation of the child in the environment in which one of the parents is absent. The issues discussed are family determinants which can lead to loneliness. The aim of the research is also to show ways to prevent isolation of the child and to indicate some pedagogical strategies aimed at positive changes that should occur in the life of a child affected by loneliness.

Opis:
Childhood neglect or abuse is damaging, with lifelong impacts on functioning, clinical and physical health. It can also transmit risk to the next generation. Child abuse is related to social deprivation, a source of family breakup, common in families under stress and is associated with other social ills such as domestic violence, and parental mental health problems. It is therefore costly to society financially, emotionally and in terms of family wellbeing. It is increasingly seen as a major public health issue given its wide prevalence. Contemporary issues in the UK concern not only ongoing neglect or abuse of children, but also the impact of historical abuse, a psychological burden to a significant number of adults. Often untreated, and occurring before adequate child protection policies were in place, the impacts of historical abuse is an ongoing concern both for health and social care services. This paper will describe the Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse (CECA) interview research findings and application in child and family services. It enables an accurate assessment of historical abuse, and its scoring system can be used on ongoing case files for children for better classification. A social and attachment model are described as explaining how damage from neglect and abuse can extend into later life.

Opis:
This paper analyses the abridged Polish rendition of Robert Louis Stevenson’s collection of poems A Child’s Garden of Verses, entitled Czarodziejski ogród wierszy (1992, selected and translated by Ludmiła Marjańska), using André Lefevere’s idea of translators and compilers acting as rewriters in cultural exchange. It argues that the manipulation wit- nessed in preparing the Polish collection can be described as a case of transediting, a no- tion usually applied to news translation not to literary translation. The article considers the interaction of translation, selection, illustrations and editing decisions (such as sequencing poems) in producing a volume that differs significantly from the original. It also consid- ers the possible motifs of the transeditors, including the image of childhood and the child reader. Finally, it touches upon the issue of the impact of this transediting on the Polish reception of the volume.
