Zastanawia się także nad możliwościami (strategiami) interdyscyplinarnego opisu dyskursu terapeutycznego oraz wiązanych z nim gatunków mowy.

The paper asks whether contrastive studies are conducted within the framework of French discourse analysis and attempts to find an answer to that question. First, the Author offers a brief overview of the origins of Polish textology and French discourse analysis, and explains the differences in how these two streams of linguistics approach comparative studies. While contrastive studies are not undertaken by French discourse analysts, recent years have seen attempts at comparing sociolinguistic behaviours using the criterion of occupation as well as cultural differences.
Artykuł jest próbą znalezienia odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy w ramach francuskiej analizy dyskursu prowadzone są badania kontrastywne. Autorka przypomina w skrócie genezę polskiej tekstologii i francuskiej analizy dyskursu, tłumacząc różnice w podejściu obu lingwistyk do badań porównawczych. Francuscy dyskursywiści nie prowadzą badań kontrastywnych; można jednak w ostatnich latach zauważyć tendencje do porównywania zachowań społeczno-językowych w aspekcie wykonywanych zawodów oraz ze względu na różnice międzykulturowe.

The analysis focuses on the Polish scientific discourse of the George Lako ’s and Mark Johnson‘s theory. The author wonders whether two Polish terms “cognitive metaphor” and “conceptual meta- phor” can be guided by the same principles in the examined discourse. At the outset of the text, a quantitative survey took place, followed by qualitative ones: the first aimed to identify the key words and examine in which contexts they occur, the second attempted to verify whether both described terms are similarly conceptualized or not. It appears that additional review of the methods of pro ling the analyzed terms de nitely confirms the identified correlation. Namely: the way of naming one phenomenon depends on the text and the context (Polish and original) of the discourse, which the researchers refer to.

The aim of this paper is to analyse metaphors in German public discourse in the environmental issues and energy policy. The metaphorical expressions, which appear as the key concepts in this discourse and evoke certain cognitive frames, will be examined carefully. By the means of these metaphorical frames, there are structured argumentative topoi which will be de ned and clari ed in this paper. Therefore, the objective of the analysis is to study the key concepts from the frame-based point of view in order to reveal the argumentative topoi.

The article deals with a linguistic approach to the subject of interpersonal interactions and the use of metaphors as a rhetorical techniques in the scientific register. The aim of this text is to describe the role of conceptual metaphors in scientific texts dealing with the theory of interactionism. Within the analysis of the linguistic and stylistic layer of theoretical studies of interactionism, the author will identify analogies between the particular aspects of interactions and source domains, which affect the constitution of certain forms of social cognition and thus the construction of knowledge. The study follows the methodological approach of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA).

The purpose of the paper is to present the results of a contrastive analysis of the media discourse in Poland (and Germany) that took place at the beginning of the so-called refugee crisis. The main concern of the article is to analyse the statements about the migrants in the conservative print media Wprost and Gazeta Polska occurring between August and October 2015. Particular attention is paid to the way the image of migrants is linguistically constructed in those media. The study concentrates on the lexical-semantic level. The findings are contrasted with the results of an analysis of German and Polish print media that can be described as left-wing or liberal (Die Zeit, Polityka). The article is empirically oriented and lies in the field of linguistic discourse analysis.

The aim of the paper is to show how conceptual metaphors and metonymies, combined with other factors, enable literature to integrate specialized discourses, in accordance with the theory of Jürgen Link (1983) and his notion of interdiscourse (ger. Interdiskurs). We posit that in our research material, i.e. selected poems and lyrics, elements of two kinds of religious discourses – the discourse of Christian apologetics and atheist or anttheist discourse – are linked together with the elements of the discourse of (natural) sciences, especially with a view to enhancing the e ectiveness of persuasion. As the method of analysis the DIMEAN (linguistic multi-level discourse analysis) model (Warnke/ Spitzmüller 2008) is used, which has hitherto been applied almost exclusively to analyse German-language discourse.

We only know how people understand what is being said or written once they have told us. Undoubtedly, understanding also includes non-linguistic or pre-linguistic components that elude verbalisation and thus cannot be communicated. However, by participating in discourse we can make sense of our experiences since we can perceive it in terms used by other participants talking about theirs. Experience that cannot be grasped linguistically remains mute. Therefore, as I see it, only what is textually accessible can be the remit of discourse analysis. This distinguishes discourse analysis from the cognitive approach whose remit it is to extrapolate from what is said to the mental representations, and to design the innate and acquired thought processes to which they owe their emergence. As I understand the cognitive approach of Alexander Ziem and Björn Fritsche, working with Dietrich Busse’s frame concept, they cannot but fail to convincingly model the presumed cognitive processes. For though they insist that a “cognitive-constructive share” complements the formation of mental representations, they must concede that it is ultimately the discursively constituted categories that determine how we experience reality. What matters for us as members of a discourse community is less what happens in our heads than how we, by talking about it, discursively create our reality, both as individuals as well as collectively.

Romance linguistics in the German-speaking world has established ‘discourses’ as a linguistic object of study within the context of ‘discourse traditions’. However, there is hardly any theory and methodology formation. Instead, these discourse analyses refer to approaches developed in German linguistics. This article provides an overview of the current state and difficulties of discourse analysis in Romance linguistics in the German-speaking world. The focus is on the tension that arises from the meeting of two approaches: on the one hand, of the French-speaking countries, which have a rich tradition, and German linguistics on the other.

The language situation in Belarus is atypical in many respects and difficult to grasp theoretically: for its analysis, it is particularly important to consider the internal perspective, i.e. attitudes towards the language. The aim of the study is to develop an interdisciplinary set of analytical instruments for the discursive determination and detailed description of (language) attitudes by integrating a socio-psychological attitude model and a discourse-linguistic topos-based multi-level analysis. This tool can be used to record the contradictory construct of the national language in collective thinking in Belarus and to gain knowledge on how to design language planning activities in the country. The identified discursive argumentation architecture can serve as a reference base when setting up argumentation typologies in relation to non-dominant national languages. The research model created is intended to allow each social discipline to engage in a differentiated examination of attitudes towards all discursively present socially relevant objects in a generalized manner.

The article contains a suggestion to frame a shift towards the cultural dimension of discourse in its linguistic analysis through the notion of lingua nativa – lingua materna – lingua fracta. In this approach, the gradual dispersion of the idea of language as a natural phenomenon is emphasized in three aspects: the common language referring to the “world of things” and everyday experiences; the first/native language, which “runs in the blood”; and the spoken language in non-mediated interpersonal communication.

The article analyzes communication strategies that reveal the knowledge of and power over a memory narrative connected to The Warsaw Uprising – one of the most crucial events for Poland, and in the history of World War II. The interviews carried out with insurgents and civilians – participants of the 1944 events, constituted the base for the research. Over 1,900 verbal activities of people conducting meetings with witnesses of history were subjected to a detailed review. The authors of the article were primarily interested in these activities’ influence on the shape of the memory narrative. The interpretation of the collected material is accomplished within the confines of critical discourse analysis which focuses on the relationship of knowledge and power as manifested in specific ways language is used.
W artykule zaprezentowana została analiza strategii komunikacyjnych, w jakich ujawniana jest wiedza i władza nad narracją wspomnieniową dotyczącą jednego z kluczowych dla Polski wydarzeń w historii II wojny światowej – powstania warszawskiego. Materiałem do badań stały się wywiady, które zostały przeprowadzone z uczestnikami wydarzeń 1944 roku – powstańcami i cywilami. Szczegółowemu oglądowi poddano ponad 1900 aktywności werbalnych osób prowadzących spotkania ze świadkami historii. Autorki interesował przede wszystkim wpływ tych aktywności na kształt narracji wspomnieniowej. Interpretacji przeanalizowanego materiału dokonuje się w ramach krytycznej analizy dyskursu, której przedmiotem zainteresowania są relacje wiedzy i władzy manifestowane w określonych sposobach użycia języka.

The aim of this article is to present the public debate about the renaming of 23rd of February Street to Lt. J. Lewandowska Street in Poznań in 2017. Newspaper articles from the regional press and social media posts have been analysed with the use of Critical Discourse Analytic tools. The focus is on the question of whether the renaming of the street was a conflict of memory or a conflict of power. This case study is inspired by research on the ideologically motivated changes in the linguistic landscape of the city and shows that the change in political regimes is followed by attempts to harmonize the symbolic indicators of values and collective memory. Our results demonstrate that these changes may be contested by both the opposition and the city inhabitants and may lead to a broader political debate.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie debaty, która toczyła się wokół zmiany nazwy ulicy 23 Lutego na ul. por. Janiny Lewandowskiej w Poznaniu w 2017 roku. Artykuły prasowe i dyskusje prowadzone w mediach społecznościowych zostały zanalizowane przy pomocy narzędzi wypracowanych w ramach Krytycznej Analizy Dyskursu. Analiza pozwoliła na sformułowanie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy zmiana nazwy ulicy była motywowana konfliktem pamięci, czy konfliktem o zakres władzy administracyjnej. To studium przypadku wpisuje się w badania na temat ideologicznie motywowanych zmian w krajobrazie językowym miasta i pokazuje, że zmiany reżimu politycznego prowadzą do prób harmonizowania symbolicznych wyznaczników wartości i pamięci zbiorowej. Wyniki analizy prowadzą do wniosku, że zmiany te mogą być kontestowane zarówno przez opozycję, jak i mieszkańców miasta, oraz mogą prowadzić do szerszej debaty politycznej.
