Opis:
Pre-colonial history of the Zande is the history of migration and conquest, characterized by expansion, annexation, assimilation and amalgamation, followed by further expansion. In the course of the 17th and 18th centuries the clans of the Vongara and the Bandia became the rulers of the (Mbomou-) Zande and Nzakara people. Important to note in this period are divergent and ambivalent attitudes of Vongara and Bandia kings vis-a-vis slave traders and the consequences of this trade in human. From the mid-19th century Arab slave raiders and traders established permanent armed forts in south-western Sudan, the so-called zariba. With the discovery, by the Khartoumers, of the free channel of the Bahr-el-Ghazal river and the foundation of the landing stage at Meshra-el-Req in 1865, the traders were able to sail upstream the Bahr-el-Ghazal, the Bahr-el-Arab, and their tributaries. As a result the watershed between the Nile and Congo-Ouban-gui basin got lined with a series of new zariba whence trading and raiding operations in eastern CAR were launched. By 1865 three major trading routes passed throught Zandeland. An increased de¬mand for slaves in the Muslim world, combined with the availability of advanced firearms and the readiness of some local chiefs to make alliances with the Khartoumers, all escalated in slave raiding and trading on an unprecedented and unimaginable scale. Slaves and ivory were traded in exchange for beads, cloth, copper, iron tools, and firearms. The upheavals caused by the slave trade and the intensifying spiral of violence had some fundamental consequences for the local societies. Agriculture changed significantly, but the most dramatic impact of the slave trade was on the region's demography.

Opis:
Problem of borders and borderland is very crucial for contemporary Africa, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. The problem could be investigated in two perspectives. The first one focuses on the negative impact of arbitrary established boundaries by colonial powers and its maintenance by new independent states. Such "old-new" boundaries delimitated without respect of ethnic diversity groups were often sources of conflicts. The second perspective is a new scientific and political concept based on positive approach. In researches the new concept is called "New Regionalism" and "Micro Regionalism" and attracted quite large number of scientists, also in investigating African borderlands and cross-border cooperation. The engagement in the concept shows among others the African Union and regional integration organizations, including NGOs. Analysing political, economic, social and cultural (including ethnic issues) situation in Africa and in the world conclusion is made that Sub-Saharan African borderlands should be a regions of cooperation.

Opis:
Political relations between Portuguese and Kongo were very difficult especially after 1575 when Portuguese colony in Luanda had been founded. Portugal was important commercial Partner for the kings of Kongo. Traders from Luanda often visited Kongo and many of them settled there. But on the other hand politics of some Portuguese governors from Luanda was serious threat for Kongo's territorial integrity at the beginning of 17th century. Many traders and Catholic priests were against military expeditions and slave raids directed into Kongo, especially because Portuguese forces were supported by heathen bands of Imbangala and Kongo was perceived as Catholic Kingdom. Military expeditions were also cause of blocking trade routes. Kongo was able to defeat Portuguese forces in 1622 during the reign of Pedro. But Luanda was perceived as serious threat and Pedro II sought European ally against Portuguese pressure. He planned to expel Portuguese from Luanda with help of Dutch but he unfortunately died before Dutch expedition arrived there in 1624.
