Opis:
The study presents results of chemical analyses and the nutritional value of silages made from meadow plants exposed to foliar fertilization with silicon (Si doses 46.8 g Si ha–1 – variant I and 74.9 g Si ha–1 – variant II, preparation Optisil®), and data on the milk yield as well as the basic composition and quality of milk produced by cows fed with these silages. Standard methods (AOAC 2005) were used to determine the basic components of silages. pH and organic acids of silages were measured. The feeding trial was conducted on 30 Polish Holstein-Friesian dairy cows. The control group (C) was fed silage from non Si-fertilized meadow plants. The other two groups were fed with the fodder containing silages from Si-fertilized meadow, i.e. group I silage obtained from variant I (46.8 g Si) and group II silage obtained from variant II (74.9 g Si). The cows were fed with total mixed rations (TMR). The silages made from meadow plants accounted for about 26.3 kg of a daily total ration. The cows were also given hay, barley straw and concentrate feed (triticale, barley, and wheat). The share of papilionaceous plants increased and dicotyledonous plants decreased proportionally to silicon fertilization. The study showed no effects of the biostimulator on the crop yield. The silages made from silicon fertilized plants had a higher nutritional value. Feeding dairy cows with silages made from Si-fertilized plants improved their milk productivity. The total solids, protein and fat of milk were higher in the Si groups. The highest milk yield as well as the milk protein and fat content were achieved in the group of cows fed with the silage made from plants fertilized with the highest silicon preparation dose (group II). Milk contained lower total counts of microorganisms (BPC) and somatic cells (SCC). The best results in this area were noticed for milk produced by group I cows fed with variant I silage.

Opis:
In 2011-2013, a field experiment was conducted at the Plant Breeding Station in Polanowice near Krakow (220 m above sea level), on degraded Chernozem developed from loess. The field experiment was set up in a randomized block design with three replications. The experimental material used in this study was cv. Egida timothy grass. The aim of the study has been to test whether L-ascorbic acid supplementing for foliar fertilization with magnesium sulfate enhances magnesium absorption by plants and what effects it has on yielding and dry matter composition of timothy grass cut and used as forage. Three levels of L-ascorbic acid fertilization were applied (10, 20 and 30 g ha-1) with and without magnesium sulfate 7-hydrate. The plants were sprayed until wet, using 300 dm3 liquid per hectare. Spraying was performed 6-8 days from the onset of growth for the first harvest, and a week after cutting for the other harvests. Statistically significant improvement in yielding and forage quality was observed for the combined magnesium/ascorbic acid fertilization. Fertilization with these two nutrients caused an increase in the total dry matter yield of timothy grass cv. Egida (together from 3 cuts), with differences reaching as much as 26% depending on the year (in the variant of combined magnesium sulfate and ascorbic acid application at 30 g ha-1). Another benefit of ascorbate application was an increase in forage quality (the content of crude protein, crude fat, water soluble carbohydrates and macronutrients). Best effects in terms of yielding and forage quality were obtained after a combined application of magnesium sulfate and ascorbic acid (30 g ha-1). Combined fertilization with magnesium sulfate and ascorbic acid tended to produce a stronger effect after periods of dry weather, which is discussed in the study.

Opis:
The experiment involved two foliar preparations of biostimulating properties containing silicon and amino acids. The aim of the study was to asses a synergistic effect of foliar application of amino acids and silicon on the content of micro- and macroelements in phytomass of grassland. It was conducted in the years 2017-2019, at an Experimental Station in Prusy near Kraków belonging to the Department of Agroecology and Crop Production, University of Agriculture in Kraków. The field experiment in a randomized block design was repeated four times and the area of the experimental plots was 10 m2. The plots were covered with loess-based degraded chernozem of class I in the Polish soil classification system. The experimental variants involved separate treatments with either silicon preparation at a dose of 0.8 dm3 ha-1 or amino acid preparation at a dose of 2.0 dm3 ha-1, and both preparations together at the mentioned doses. Foliar fertilization with the amino acid preparation and combined fertilization with silicon and amino acids significantly (p≤0.05) increased the content of the investigated macroelements. The difference was the greatest in the first year of the study. For potassium it reached 19.5% in the plants from the first cut treated with a combination of silicon and amino acids. The combination enhanced also the content of zinc, copper, manganese and iron. In summary, joint application of silicon and amino acids positively influenced the concentration of minerals in phytomass of grassland. In such cases fertilization is necessary to improve mineral levels in phytomass of grassland.
