This article examines the nominative field of the concept “tolerance” on the basis of material collected from the Russian-language foreign press of Slavic States media texts. The analysis of the nominative field is carried out from the perspective of a semanticcognitive approach towards the correlation between semantic and cognitive processes. The research of the semantics of language units of the nominative field objectifying this concept allows the author to represent the content of the concept “tolerance” in the form that it is reflected and recorded in the Russian-language foreign press media texts.

Opis:
The subject of this article are the linguistic means used to form the image-concept “Russia”. Corpus content analysis on the wide range material of the British print and electronic press for 2017-2019 is the base for constructing the nominative field with the core and near, far and final peripheries of image ”Russia”. The conceptual analysis revealed verbal means used for expansion of the concept volume and its component layers- metaphorical, nominative, evaluative and associative. These devices create the negative image-concept of state Russia in British public consciousness.

Opis:
Metaphorisation is the basis of poetic language. The main basis of poet’s creative process is intuitive thinking. This paper is devoted to the cognitive analysis of the Inna Lisnianskaya’s cycle, due to its excessively developed concepts of sleep and dream. In the fourteen sonnets, linked together by composition and plot, the poet creates an image of a timeless reality of dreams which is composed of mythical, biblical, historical and biographical elements. Since learning is mainly based on finding similarities, Lisnianskaya combines the concepts of water, waves, sea, chaos, the ark, wine, love, life and death and builds a dreamlike world in which lyrical characters are able to handle the matters interrupted by their separation.

The language is the most important part of the communication among people, the centre of all cognitive activity, in which all the cognitive processes are reflected. At today’s stage of development of the linguistics the centre of the whole contemporary linguistic science puts more and more attention to the comparative analysis of languages. One of the current directions of the comparative linguistics is the cognitive linguistics vs particular surveys of concepts. Scientific surveys have shown that love in the Ukrainian, Russian and Polish paroemiology presents itself in a similar way as it is an universal phenomenon. The concept of “love” shows fundamental values, in which we can find main beliefs, principles and life goals.

Opis:
Nadezhda Teffi (former Buczynska, born as Lochwicka, 1872-1952) - poet and novelist, one of the most interesting characters in Russian literature of the first half of the twentieth century. In 1920 Teffi left Russia supplying the same community of thousands of Russian immigrants. In Paris, still accompanied by the opinion of eminent satirist, but a poetic works can trace many aspects of the Teffi creative attitude, and especially reflective and nostalgic nature of the emigration work. The experience of exile provoked to think about the country, the world and herself in this world. Similar sentiments reflect the poems included in the books of poetry: Шамрам. Песни Востока (Songs of the East, Berlin, 1923), Passiflora (Berlin 1923) and in the poems published in collective volumes and anthologies. The article analyses the concept of death in the lyrics of Teffi. Semantical structure of this concept includes both objective senses and individual imaginations of the author.

Starting from the basic level of a word categorization, a poet, thanks to subjective associations, knowledge and experience transforms them into a new quality characterized by semantic precision and emotional sophistication. The cycle of poems of Inna Lisnyanskaya Слово без имени (2007) is an example of such a conceptualization.

This article reveals the exceptional union of two metaphysical poems by John Donne, so far regarded as separate entities. By conducting a thorough linguistic analysis, the author gradually shows subtle links between The good-morrow and The Flea on the lexical, thematic, and structural levels. Their existence provides evidence that J. Donne’s works may form meaningful assemblages and should therefore be interpreted only in the context of the whole manuscript. The Flea and The good-morrow clearly comment on one another and together complete the vision of the world which emerges from their verses. Thanks to their autotelic character – the material form that itself conveys a message − the reader experiences this lyrical diptych as an observable phenomenon and an intellectual puzzle. The poet deliberately breaks existing patterns and rules to expose chosen elements. It is the irregularities in the composition of the verses and stanzas, frequently perceived as imperfections, that open the door to deeper levels of his metaphysical concept.

This article is devoted to the tendencies in the semantics of words скандалand skandal and the derivation with the help of the -gate suffixoid in the modern Russian and Polish mass media discourse being the main environment for the emergence and spreading of scandals. The modern scandal becomes an attention attracting strategy. As a result, new semantic features and a positive connotation appear in the semantics of the words скандал and skandal. The -gate suffixoid is used to derive the terms that may suggest unethical behaviour and a cover-up of scandal, particularly in politics and government.

Artykuł ma na celu przybliżenie związków wartości z emocjami utrwalonych w leksykonie mentalnym Polaków, Rosjan i Niemców. Analiza materiału językowego pozyskanego w rezultacie testu swobodnych skojarzeń, oparta na metodologii badań kognitywnych oraz psychologicznej skali PANAX-X, pokazuje, że pojęcia odsyłające do stanów afektywnych są obecne w profilach asocjacyjnych większości jednostek aksjologicznych. Najwięcej związków z emocjami pozytywnymi stwierdzono w profilach wartości odczuciowych, najmniej lub brak emocji – w profilach wartości społecznych i moralnych. Wyniki poświadczające wysoki status wartości odczuciowych w systemie aksjologicznym respondentów i związane z nimi postawy propulsywne oraz niższą pozycję innych wartości można tłumaczyć dominacją orientacji postmaterialistycznej współczesnych użytkowników trzech języków.

A special role in the representation of abstract concepts belongs to the metaphor. The concept “life” in Russian and Polish languages is objectified through metaphors of perception. Metaphorically life is described through signs of color, taste, smell, tactile characteristics. The metaphors of perception, which are used as a means of representation of these concepts, are a way of expressing an emotional assessment. The similarity of a large number of metaphorical models in Russian and Polish languages says about stereotype representation by the speakers of both languages such abstract form as life.

This paper presents the phraseological realisation of the concept “POWER” in modern Polish and Russian. On the basis of the denotative and connotative analysis of the examples of phraseologisms representing the concept “POWER” in both languages, the author concludes that power is a multi-layered entity in both linguacultural spaces. It encompasses the presence of the subject and object of power, as well as the distinct ability of the subject to control the way in which another subject or a nobject functions. The chosen phraseological units confirm that they represent facts and judgements that can be interpreted as mostly negative and rarely positive with a varying degree of connotative saturation, being usually negative.

The theoretical basis of the study is the theory of the concept, including the theory of literary concept. The works of the contemporary Russian dramatist Vassily Sigarev are the materials of the study. The aim of the article is to define the place and the role of the existential problem in Sigarev’s works. The scope and merit of the concept of LIFE is presented on the basis of the chosen fragments of the contexts including the words life, live and their derivatives from the drama Черное молоко. The analysis of the contexts shows that the literary concept which is presented in Sigarev’s works is identified with the nationwide concept. The feature of the author’s individual concept, as a literary version, is as follows: the semantic core of the concept LIFE, from living to philosophic, is presented in a clear way in the drama Черное молоко.
