Opis:
The paper presents results of the studies conducted to determine causes and directions of transformations in vegetation of meadow-pasture communities in the area of the Wielki Łęg Obrzański [Great Obra Floodmeadows]. Multifaceted natural and habitat analyses were conducted on over 1800 relevés prepared in the vegetation seasons of 2005–2009 according to Braun-Blanquet. On their basis the phytosociological and floristic structure was analysed and habitat conditions were determined by phytoindication. Moreover, laboratory methods were applied in soil analyses to determine contents of basic macro- and microelements and groundwater table levels were recorded. Results referred to the documentation and archive literature made it possible to determine causes of transformations in plant communities in that area and outline probable directions in which succession was progressing. A lack of regular land use patterns is seen as the primary cause for the transformation in the flora of the Wielki Łęg Obrzański, particularly in the last 20 years. A considerable limitation of land use in certain sections of this area has led to the initiation of dominance of nitrophilic species such as Urtica dioica, Cirsium arvense, Potentilla anserina or Galium mollugo, while in the thinned sward it led to the development of grass species with very limited economic importance. Another equally important factor affecting the structure of vegetation cover is connected with air and water relations in soils, determined by the drainage system operating there for the last 200 years and by precipitation.

Opis:
The Atriplex littoralis L. is a rare and endangered species in Poland and many other countries in Europe. In Poland it is mainly found on the west coast and also rarely in central parts. It has been seen in Puck Bay and the Gulf of Gdańsk as well as in Hel Peninsula. The grassleaf orache is a halophyte, terophyte and a sunlight-loving plant. Data shows that apart from on the coast, this species may also appear in inland areas, for example on ruderal habitats such as roadsides. The results of our observations confirm the presence of the species on beaches and rocky bank reinforcement, with accumulation of annual vegetation in the Hel Peninsula and Puck Bay. Five sites, where Atriplex littoralis specimens occur have been found. In each site 1 to 15 specimens where found, in total 31. Five phytosociological relevés were made within the floristically poor patches of Matricario maritimae-Atriplicetum littoralis (Christiansen 1933) R.Tx. 1950. This association represents the protected type of habitat: Annual vegetation of drift lines (1210).

Opis:
The aim of this study was to characterise the flora and plant communities in the Moryńskie Hills, Poland. A total of 45 transects and 23 phytosociological relevés were established. Plant communities were identified based on the description of the test patch of the vegetation cover. The paper presents floristic analyses of vascular plants, which includes the taxonomic affiliation of species, their life forms according to Raunkiaer, and the species share in the geographical and historical groups. The results have been compiled and presented in tables and graphs, with a brief discussion. The non-forest communities occupy the largest area: xerothermic swards, meadows and pastures and to a lesser extent, scrub communities. Forests are represented by a riparian slope elm-ash wood Violo odoratae-Ulmetum minoris.

Opis:
The vegetation cover of the Głuszec stream valley was investigated. The article presents a list of 294 recorded species of vascular plants from 65 families and, also, 47 plant associations from nine classes, from three dynamic vegetation circles: Carici elongatae-Alnetum, Fraxino-Alnetum and Querco- -Ulmetum minoris. Six types of vegetation complexes were documented. Their phytocoenotic structure was shown in a table containing relevés made in sigmassociations. The preliminary results of research on the dynamics of Dactylorhiza incarnata population, occurring in one of meadow complexes, were presented. The Głuszec stream valley was recognised as the region of exceptional natural plant cover within the city of Poznań and proposed to be incorporated into the green network of the Poznań Agglomeration. The valley was also included in the agri-environmental program. An active protection of grassland ecosystems is achieved by adhering to the requirements of this program and additional recommendations of an expert botanist.

Presented work is aimed at investigating potential correlations between remote sensing vegetation indices and local ant populations. Research was conducted in summer of 2017 in Wigry National Park in two types of forest habitats: coniferous (Serratulo-Pinetum) and deciduous (Tilio-Carpinetum). NDVI and MCARI2 vegetation indices were measured with the use of a drone and yielded comparable correlations with ant-related quantities. We determined that the presence of ants from Formica group is positively correlated with vegetation indices, while the correlation between Myrmica and Lasius ants and vegetation indices is more complex.

Sedges are attractive ornamental plants, thanks to the specific structure of their inflorescences, perigynium morphology, an interesting habit and extended dates of individual phenological stages varying between species. Analyses were conducted on 15 sedge species differing in traits of their inflorescence shoots and varying in the shape and size of perigynia. Species characteristic of diverse habitats were selected so that they would meet the full spectrum of requirements of landscape architects. A nine-point scale was applied in this study, in which the decorative value of the investigated sedges was assessed. The greatest decorative value scores were recorded for Carex spicata, C. remota and C. pallescens (19 points each) and C. paniculata (18). In contrast, the lowest scores were found for C. ericetorum (12), C. digitata (13) and C. curta (14). Sedges planted in gardens are highly desirable elements of the landscape, particularly thanks to the phenotypic plasticity observed practically in all species throughout the entire vegetative season.

Opis:
Nearly 200 hectares of grasslands in “Majątek Rogalin” (the Rogalin Estate) are situated on the Warta River floodplain, about 17 miles south of Poznań. Six positions of protected species have been found here. There are 10 regionally endangered species, while in the whole country – eight. Eighty-three plant communities belonging to 15 classes in phyto-sociological terms have been identified. Due to habitat conditions and manner of use, rushes of Phragmitetea rushes (18), Molinio-Arrhenatheretea grasslands (18), and Artemisietea vulgaris herbaceous species (12) are the most abundantly represented. Natural arrangements predominate (nearly 68%), but semi-natural ones (19%) are also numerous. A total of 30 phytocenons (over 37%) are endangered. Following items are directly threatened with extinction (E): poplar riparian forest Populetum albae, herbaceous plants Veronico longifoliae-Euphorbietum lucidae, and cnidion meadow Violo stagninae-Molinietum caeruleae. Poplar riparian forest is very rare, and 15 associations are counted to rare ones. There have been 33 communities representative for 10 protected habitat types, including three – the priority ones. Considering the surface, following meadows dominate: Stellario palustris-Deschampsietum cespitosae and Rumici-Alopecuretum pratensis, in which 20–23 species have been reported. Cnidion meadows are much more abundant (from 29 to 42 species). Natural and cultural values of the area were noticed a long time ago, which was reflected in numerous publications and proposals for protection: Rogalin Landscape Park, nature and landscape area “Rogalin Łęgi”, Natura 2000 – Rogalin Warta River Valley, and together with the Wielkopolski National Park “The Special Protection Area – Rogalin Refuge”. “Majątek Rogalin” implements the environmental programs, which means that farming is subordinated to nature conservation. Active protection and maintaining the traditional way of management contribute to the preservation of existing natural values .

Studies were conducted in 50 villages of mediaeval origin in NW Poland. In eight of them were found patches of two Malvion neglectae associations: Matricarietum discoideo-recutitae and Matricario-Anthemidetum cotulae. The documentation comprising 19 phytosociological relevés was made according to the Braun-Blanquet approach in the years 2011–2013. Only one relevé dates from 2006 and was made in N Wielkopolska. Two new subassociations: Matricarietum discoideo-recutitae medicaginetosum lupulinae and M. d.-r. typicum were described. As a result of decline of traditional forms of management in villages both associations, and especially Matricario-Anthemidetum cotulae, are contemporarily strongly endangered.

Communities of hay meadows with Arrhenatherum elatius form phytocenoses of at least two plant communities: Arrhenatheretum elatioris – semi-natural habitats, and Tanaceto-Arrhenatheretum elatioris – ruderal habitats. The communities of tall oat-grass include approximately 150 species of vascular plants. In central Poland Tanaceto-Arrhenatheretum is the main habitat for many species characteristic of the Arrhenatherion alliance, including: Pastinaca sativa, Knautia arvensis, Tragopogon pratensis. Hay meadows are vulnerable (VU) components of vegetation of the characterized region. There is a need to verify syntaxonomic units within the Arrhenatherion alliance and phytosociological identifiers of Natura 2000 habitats – extensively used hay lowland meadows (6510).

Opis:
This paper presents results of abundance field research, distribution and habitat and phytocoenotic preferences of Trisetum sibiricum on the Gutowo Meadows (Urszulewo Plain, NE Poland), in a locality outside the continuous range of distribution. The species grown in wet, not used meadows, in places overflooded by beavers, partially afforested. The research was carried out in 2013 and the results were compared with analogical data from 2000–2002. Currently a higher abundance of species (circa 1600 tufts), a larger area of the locality (circa 2.5 ha), larger phytosociological spectrum and a larger share of hygrophilous species in species composition of the examined phytocoenoses was revealed. In 2013 a share of Trisetum sibiricum was noted in 12 plant communities from seven classes (Phragmitetea australis, Scheuchzerio-Caricetea nigrae, Bidentetea tripartiti, Molinio-Arrhenatheretea, Artemisietea vulgaris, Alnetea glutinosae and Querco-Fagetea), and in 2000–2002 – only in seven plant communities from three classes (Scheuchzerio-Caricetea nigrae, Molinio-Arrhenatheretea and Artemisietea vulgaris). Formerly the species was listed mainly in phytocoenoses of Angelico-Cirsietum oleracei and currently most often in phytocoenoses of Junco-Molinietum.
