    Finding the “common language of fire”: Jerzy Ficowski on Jewish mysticism (prolegomena) This article is an attempt to outline the relationship between the work of Jerzy Ficowski and the Jewish mystical thought that was brought in this paper to a kabbalistic element – a synthesis of components considered basic for two great currents of the non-orthodox Judaism: Kabbalah and Hasidism. At the level of content they consist of the motifs of the Book, Word and Letter, Angels and Light, the messianic topos of the Just, cosmogonic and eschatological myths, as well as specific, non-linear recognition of time – which are strongly present in the poetry of the author of the Regions of the Great Heresy. At the level of structure there are noticeable the emanation model and the duality of language and imagination, of matter and spirituality – diametrically different elements, yet gravitating toward the ultimate unity. The text, containing references to translation and “Schulzian” output of Jerzy Ficowski, is focused on his poetry and is an introduction to its aspectual monograph.     Jerzy Ficowski’s biblical fragments The article is a general and panoramic attempt at defining the basic forms of the presence of Bible in Jerzy Ficowski’s poetry. It was estblished that biblical themes are not central elements of the poetic world of the author of Inicjał. Nevertheless, they are constantly present throughout his works. The poet most often refers to the Old Testament. In particular, Ficowski is almost obsessively focused on the motif of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and original sin. The theme is present in a number of poems written during the period of a couple decades. Those poems are the subject of a more detailed analysis and interpretation of the present article.     Ornithology, ornithomancy. Sokołowski and (other) birds of Jerzy Ficowski The starting point for my article was Jerzy Ficowski’s poem Do autora “Ptaków ziem polskich”. The poem, found in the poet’s penultimate volume – Zawczas z poniewczasem (2004) is commemorating Jan Sokołowski (1899–1982). He was a prominent ornithologist, one of the contemporary forerunners of the field, a pioneer of bird protection in Poland, and, above all, a visionary who in his work exhibited an innovatively personal approach to animals. The language he used was commonly regarded as anthropomorphic, since he attributed animals with emotions. In the article, I deal with poetic traces of both deliberate and accidental relations between Ficowski’s work and the ornithological work of Sokołowki. At the same time I attempt at a reconstruction of the advice that the author of Pantarei gained from the so to speak indirect consultations with the scholar. This allowed him to set the birds free in terms of cultural code of symbolic meaning. By referring to fairly numerous poems of Ficowski in which animals are present as main characters I prove that in both his and Sokołowski’s representation they are in fact quite similar. This, naturally, is done in different registers, however they both paid special attention to both ornithological faithfulness and what is beyond the reach of science, i.e. attempting to reflect the inner life of birds.     Szkic stanowi próbę ulokowania poezji Krystyny Miłobędzkiej w kontekście ekopoetyki i sprawdzenia, czy tak ukierunkowane odczytanie otworzy liryczną twórczość poetki na nowe praktyki interpretacyjne, cieszące się coraz większym zainteresowaniem badawczym. W omówieniach dorobku autorki Anaglifów motywy i tematy przyrodnicze pojawiają się stosunkowo często, jednak do tej pory rzadko traktowane były jako główny, samodzielny przedmiot analizy. Szkic poprzez interpretację poszczególnych utworów pokazuje, w jaki sposób natura, w tym wypadku zwłaszcza pojawiające się pod różną postacią drzewa, na przestrzeni publikowanych kolejno tomów kształtują wyobraźnię pisarską Miłobędzkiej i wpisują się w wypracowany przez nią projekt poetycki, wykraczający poza ramy strategii literackiej, którego założenia pozwalają umieścić go w obszarze ekopoetyki.
    The article is an attempt to place Krystyna Miłobędzka’s poetry in the context of ecopoetics and to see whether such a targeted reading will open the poet’s lyrical works to new interpretative practices, which are becoming increasingly popular among researchers. In the discussion about the output of the author of Anaglify [Anaglyphs], natural motifs and themes appear relatively often, but so far they have rarely been treated as the main, independent subject of analysis. This sketch, through the interpretation of individual works, shows how nature, in this case especially that appearing in different forms of trees, in the volumes published in turn shape Miłobędzka’s writer’s imagination and inscribe themselves in the poetic project she has developed, which goes beyond the framework of literary strategy and whose assumptions allow it to be placed in the area of ecopoetics.

    Dragonflies and Holocaust The dragonflies occupy a special place in Jerzy Ficowski’s poetic universe. The Holocaust occupies a special place in his poetic reflection. These two dominant factors were not put together so far, but they should be after multiple readings and analyzes of the works of the author of Reading of the Ashes [Odczytanie popiołów], but also due to the new trends in the study of the history of the Holocaust. My hypothesis is, that Jerzy Ficowski has written organic history of the Holocaust long before it was taught and practiced by the Holocaust specialists. As a literary scholar, poet’s interpreter, I tried to thoroughly analyze the poems, and inform about these precursory poetic notes of the author. This anticipation is significant and perceived in the collective imaginarium. The dragonflies have been living in the world for 325 million years (they are the world’s oldest insects), humans – also the creators of Extermination and experiencing the Holocaust – initiated their own species history less than 10 million years ago.     Artykuł ma na celu naświetlenie zjawiska poezji science fiction oraz podjęcie próby charakteryzacji jej najważniejszych cech i wyróżników. Autorka zarysowuje różnice i podobieństwa między poezją SF funkcjonującą w obiegach anglosaskim oraz polskim, wskazując na odrębność rodzimej poezji względem tej pierwszej. Analizując definicje gatunkowe poezji spekulatywnej, umieszcza w ich ramach nowe tendencje obecne w polskiej literaturze i wskazuje szczególnie na zagadnienie kreacji świata przedstawionego.
    This article highlights the phenomenon of science fiction poetry and attempts to characterize its most important and distinguishing features. The author outlines the differences and similarities between science fiction poetry in Anglo-Saxon and Polish circulation, pointing to the distinctiveness of Polish poetry from the former. Analyzing the genre definitions of speculative poetry, the author places these works within the new trends present in Polish literature, pointing in particular to the issue of the creation of the represented world.

    Artykuł został zainspirowany esejami Georga Simmla, niemieckiego filozofa (Most i drzwi) oraz książką Douwego Draaismy, holenderskiego teoretyka pamięci, Fabryka nostalgii. O fenomenie pamięci wieku dojrzałego (2010). Omawiam zjawisko osobistych wspomnień poety, czyli reminiscencje. Reprezentacja pamięci w poezji Białoszewskiego została przedstawiona na przykładach: anamnezy, upamiętnienia, zapomnienia. Botaniczne motywy pełnią tu funkcję medium pamięci.
    The article was inspired by the essays of George Simmel, the German philosopher who wrote " Bridge and door" and the book by Douwe Draaisma, the Dutch theoretician of memory, "The Fabric of nostalgia. About the phenomenon of mature memory" (2010). I discuss the phenomenon of the autobiographical memory of the poet, or reminiscence. Representation of this memory in the poetry of Białoszewski has been featured in examples: anamnesis, commemoration, oblivion. Botanical themes fulfil the features of the medium for memory.

    This paper is devoted to the history of a sonnet and bigger collections built of sonnets, a sonnet cycle and a wreath of sonnets, i.e. a specific cyclic work of a particular internal structure based on repeating verses within the whole. Also, a formal diversity of the sonnet form has been presented. The basic variants of the genre include: Italian and French sonnets, as well as an English sonnet in its several forms. Moreover, the rhyme schemes, which are the indicators of those variations, have been analysed, as well as metric patterns most often used in the sonnet. Another issue discussed in the paper is the sound structure in sonnets, i.e. orchestration, especially vocal harmony. Names of poets, who mostly contributed to the codification of the sonnet as a genre and popularizing this form in international literature, have been mentioned. All the ideas are illustrated with examples from the works written by the most distinguished Polish and European poets.
