Opis:: In the phraseological stock of Polish there can be found language units which conceal a cultural symbolism of mythological provenance – symbolism that speakers are perhaps sometimes unaware of. In this group tere are two phraseological expressions containing a fruit name (apple) that seem to be genetically related to Greek mythology: the złote jabłko [golden apple] and the jabłko niezgody [apple of discord]. The article presents the etymology of the ‘apple’ lexeme, broadly outlines the symbolism of apple and apple tree in various cultures and mythologies, and eventually discusses, inter alia, (1) mythological motivation of the units under consideration, (2) semantic and formal status of mythology-based phraseological expressions, (3) lexicographic status of both expressions, and (4) their international character.

Opis:: World-creating. Solar and lunar motifs in children’s poetry by Jerzy Ficowski The subject of inquiries in this sketch is an ancient Slavonic fairy tale About Swaróg Swarożyc by Jerzy Ficowski – a work directed to the youngest readers, which the author describes as a theogonical poem. It launches two main interpretative contexts. The first is the specifics of children’s literature, in particular the role of the child as an active recipient of poetry in which the metaphor gains an advantage over morality. The second one – a look at Ficowski’s childhood artwork of solar and lunar motifs through the prism of pre-Slavic beliefs. In the mythological Slavonic pantheon, it was the mentioned in the title Swaróg, the god of the sun and the fire, who occupied the highest position, at the same time ruling life-giving force and deadly power. The author shows how this heterogeneous, dissonant world of the poet reveals a subjective approach to children, treating them as an equal literary readers. Opis:: The article aims to present whether and how the phraseme to be reborn || rise (like a Phoenix / phoenix) from the ashes exists today in various texts of culture (recorded after 2000 in the National Corpus of Polish, drawn from the web and elsewhere), how it is present in various registers of communication and whether this petrified lexical unit is undergoing any changes. The analysis is preceded by a cultural introduction into understanding the symbolic power of Phoenix hidden in the phrase, as well as the insights into the systemic (lexicographic) state of the expression and the attempt to establish its source and the approximate time in which it was created.
