Opis:
In the years of the Second Polish Republic, the Volyn province , as an agricultural region, had good conditions for the development of the agricultural and food industry. At the beginning of the 1930s, the provivce was in the lead in the growth of among otherss, wheat (13,3% of the domestic production), barely (11,1%), millet (25,5%), hemp (25,9%), clover (14,6), canola and agrimony (24,2%), buckwheat (22,6%) and hop (63,4%). At the same time, Volyn bcoame the main hop centre in Poland. The province was also in the lead in breeding: in 1934 it ranked first in horse breeding and fourth in pig farming. In the years 1921-1936, progress in the development of the local supply area for the agricultural and food industry was noticeable. Considerable changes took place in the functioning and production of the Volyn agricultural and food industry dyring yhe time of the Second Polish Republic. The changes included the necessity of reconstructing damaged buildings giving up the opening of some factories reorientation of the markets (due tothe lack of stabilized conditions of trading with Russia), nation-wide cartelization of some lines of busines, limiting production by putting quotas (e.g. sugar industry), and the development of modern bacon industry (by well-known Łódź industries- the eisert family). The aim of the actions that were undertaken by the goverment with respect to the agriculture as well as agricultural and food industry in Volyn was to diversify the crops and the agricultural income by popularizing oil crops and supporting new branches of industry.

Opis:
Already at the begining of indepedence, a conviction was formed at the top of the military hierrachy of the Second Polish Republic that the equipment of the army should be based on native production. The idea was accepted as a sort of an axiom, and was realized consistenly, although with some flexibility. In the second half of the 1939s., negative consequences of such an armament policy were becoming more and more visible. In many cases, Polish design offices turned out to be incapable of keeping up with world leaders, and the process of implementing foreign licenses and startind up a production on their basis was too slow. in spite of the worsening international situation, the decision of launching an  intervention purchase of modern equipment abroad was postponed until the middke of March 1939. Negotiatons concerning armament loans that began in May 1939 in London and paris turned out to be delayed - the final agreements were signed on 2nd and 18th August 1939. They made it possible to make  the most urgent purchases, however, the equipment that was immeditately dispatched did not manage to reach Poland before the end of the September Campaign of 1939. The tragic end demonstrares the dramatic character of the decision with which the constructors of the armament policy of the Second Polish Republic were faced. The strategic conditions in which the policy had to develop did not provide any fully rational solutions to their dilemmas.

Opis:
The material basis of the paper are the names of Polish female associations from the 30s of the 20th century. The analysis involves components used to expose feminine qualities – general names (kobieta, pani, niewiasta – ‘woman, lady’), as well as detailed ones, which were categorised according to the information they contain. These are the elements of the world, which in addition to gender, constitute a basis for communality of the members: social and professional status, educational background, participation in military activities, social activity sphere, or common interests. The material presented in the paper shows that in the Second Polish Republic the need for exposing femininity and emphasising communality was very strong in the names of associations.

Opis:
The article discusses names of associations, hitherto unresearched, from the interwar period in Poland in terms of the linguistic worldview they are a testimony to. Analysing lexical components of the names reflects great care taken of restored statehood in several domains: the Republic’s integration and firm establishment of Polishness throughout, economic and cultural development, civic education and strengthening the state’s defence.

Opis:
History textbook from the first years after the war did not provide an extensive analysis of the  economic policy of the Second Polisch Republic. Reflections on this topic constituted only a small portion of the autors deliberations. Until the middle of the 1950s authors evalauted the economic activity of the authorities very critically. They used a narration full of ideological expressions and political phraseology and did not hide their negative attitudes towards the reality of the interwar Poland. In the following decades, history textbooks showed that authors started to slowly move away from complete criticism of the authorities of the Second polish Republic, also when economy was concerned. Positive opinins pointing to the usefulness and measurable benefits of some of the initiatives and economic actions appeared. In the textbooks from the 1970s, some economic information was extended. Authors started using economic terminology and tried to explain the complex economic situation of the interwar Poland in more detail. There was less ideologising and discrediting of the economic policy of the authorities. Insted, the authors started appreciating the work of W. Grabski and his contribution to the economic reforms. In the next decads, the textbooks presented more detailed information about the disadvan-tageous conditions and difficulties concerting the economic policy of the authorities of the Second Polish Republic who despite the circumstances, strove for the development of the country through introducing reforms. First, the authors mentioned the underdevelopment on the indepedent Poland that was inherited from the occupants. Then, they mentioned investment achivements of those vears(e.g. railroading). The  newly open manufacturing plants indicated that the economic oilicy of the authorities was moving in the right direction. After 1989, approving phrases started appearing in the textbooks, for example: "an offensive economic policy", "currency cure", "the flywheel of the entire economy". In the textbooks from the years 2002-2007, the authors enumerated the most important economic successes of the interwar Poland. They used elements of economic thought in their course of thinking.

This article discusses the problem of communist activity in the Polish trade union movement in the years 1918–1939. It seems that communists’ influence on trade unions was greatest at the beginning of the Second Polish Republic, in the early 1930s, and in the years 1936–1937. The author presents the state of research on this topic and formulates research questions for the future.

Opis:
In interwar Poland, one of the tasks of the military counterintelligence was to combat communist influence, which was rightly judged as one of the most eminent dangers that threatened the state. The Communist Party of Poland carried out its sabotage through the Central Military Department, which the Polish counterintelligence considered an integral part and tool of the General Staff of the Soviet Army. This article discusses the activity of a communist cell in the 14th Infantry Regiment stationed in Włocławek, as well as the liquidation of that cell as a result of cooperation between the Polish State Police, military counterintelligence and gendarmerie. It also discusses the court proceedings against members of the cell at the Military Regional Court no. 8 in Grudziądz.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to summarise the current state of academic research regarding revolutionary peasant parties in the Second Polish Republic: the Independent Peasant Party (IPP), Union of Peasant Left “Self-Help” and Belarussian Peasant and Workers “Hromada” that operated in the north-eastern borderlands. These political formations, whose target group was peasants, were crypto-communist. Although officially independent, they were actually agencies of the Communist Party of Poland (CPP) and Communist Party of Western Belarus, which were in turn branches of Soviet intelligence in Poland. These groups aroused greatest interest among researchers prior to 1989 (during the existence of the communist block) due to the fact that Polish historians, members of the ruling Polish United Workers’ Party at the time, monopolised scientific research. Members of the PUWP’s satellite United People’s Party also had the opportunity to work on this issue, but their influence was much weaker. Articles regarding the Hromada were also available; however, much more detailed and important were those written in the Belarussian SSR. Practically in all cases those scientific papers were written in line with the communist ideology that praised the work of these parties. Still, thanks to research in Polish and Soviet archives, we can obtain valuable information about them and their members. After the decline of the communist block the topic has received much less attention from researchers both in Poland and Belarus, except for those who had already worked on it during the communist era and published a few fragmentary articles. As a result, the issue discussed in this article is still waiting for comprehensive and honest scholarship.
